Thank you thank you thank you thank you for sharing this. I can never get enough RB. Was fortunate to see live once in 1978. Hands down my favorite player
His playin on this with the pinch harmonics...will give u chills...that broken pickup on Nancy gave him that unique transistor piercing sound with the fender 2x10 reverb....amp...nothing like him since
I saw Roy Buchanan in Pittsburgh in about 1974, it was the first concert I ever attended , late high school, maybe I was a junior?. I had his first two albums at the time. I remember wearing an irish fisherman's sweater from my grandmother and striped bell-bottoms! Honestly I hardly remember the concert, except swaying with my head back & my eyes closed while that tele just washed over teh auditorium like ocean waves over a beach
Thank you SnakeSSSStretcher ! Roy Buchanan was phenomenal! His singing in this performance is inspired -- and the elegant brilliance of his guitar tone soars! I wonder if the roars of the crowds for gimmickry ended up bringing him down -- as perhaps was the case for Hendrix. The crowds too often go gaga over uninspired antics and miss the art and soul in music. So nice to see good footage of Roy back when his hair was black! Thanks!
This was my personal favorite of his ....The way he controls that Telecaster...is uncanny..pinch harmonics...that broken treble pickup really helped him get that transistor weird squeal.Look up Don Mare if u want specs on Nancy his 53 Telecaster
Yep I saw this clip on the pbs special1971 ....and I was hooked on his amazing pinch harmonics...and blistering treble pickup control on that Nancy....telecaster...always watch this in awe...miss this guy..
Man, I wish I had a time machine. I'd see so many amazing performances and still not see enough! Roy's got some country in him for sure, this is great.
Not so unknown anymore! He was just too good to stay hidden forever, thank God. Roy is one of a very few must hear guitarists ever. In this age no one should miss the blessing of at least hearing and, even better, seeing him play. Thanks Snake. RIP Roy.
there is no other way to say it... I just LOVE Roy... saw him live in Auckland town hall in the late 70s or early 80s.. still remember it like it was yesterday.. no one else gets such a perfect telecaster tone ... and plays such perfect combination of notes... gets me fair and square right between the eyes ... into every part of my brain... and his eyes..............
@singertc1 This was my parent's first date. My mom was 17 sitting in the front! Been playin' drums all my life. Me and Pop have always had a cool dad 'n son rhythm section goin'...
What year is this?I saw him in 75 I was fifteen and he scared the shit out of me! at Suny at bflo. ny. he played just like this..a free show..I thought Hendrix must have hung out with this guy....I couldnt get the stuff out of my head for a week ....I still cant! thanks Roy.
My uncles used to see him ask the time, at the crossroads club outside D.C., where he was pretty much the house band for awhile. Wish I could've seen that. My introduction to him was the b side of Second Album, took awhile to pick my jaw up off the floor. RIP Roy.
4:30-4:45 I'm pretty sure he's simultaneously picking the muted bass notes while claw picking a melody along with those notes so that means his pick hand is doing two entirely different tasks at once, while his fret hand has likewise spit in two, making him, for a brief time, 'four-handed' and possessed by Satan, cause that shit ain't human
OMG...THESE PANTS ARE AS BAD AS THE LAST ONES. HOW DOES HE DO IT? HOW DOES HE PLAY THE COOLEST GUITAR...AND CONTINUE TO LOOK LIKE A LIBRARIAN? IT'S BRAIN BENDING!!!
He's the reason Jeff Beck was as good as he was. They were good friends for years. Listen to Jeff, you can hear Roy crying out from his music. Thats why he left Jeff his Tele when he passed. Jeff's most prized guitar in his collection.
@petervanallenjr That's got to be in the top 3 for impressing a date. You're living proof it worked like a charm and they have a video of that 1st date. Pretty cool !!
"I don't claim to be Caruso, and I, m not Number One and if you don't like my singing', just put the needle on another song just put the needle on another song" (Caruso, by Roy Buchannan)
@PorkFrog You're right on-this guy was a batshit-insane guitarist, Hell on Strings. As in, make guys like Hendrix wanna quit playin' and take up knitting. The envy of a guitarist's guitarist. So sad he's gone... All this and Gatton too. Damn shame.
WOW! this is crazy...I remember Pete. I am Kim, Chucks daughter..the other guitarist/vocals in blue shirt. I was about 5 at the time. Now at 43, I have been singing all my life, we have a local band and due alot of classic rock. What about you? Did you get your dads talent?
I just watched his performance on Austin City Limits (1976) which is just five years after this. It looks like he had done some hard living between this night and then. Is that the case? I don't know much about this guitar master. Anyone?
@@petervanallenjr When I lived in DC decades ago, Danny Gatton told me directly that Heintze was his favorite Musician of ANY sort to play with. He may have been the only keyboardist who played with both live.
Man you are crazy! I love Jimmi Hendrix but I think Roy would have smashed him and he even knew it! I read that Roy went to Jimmi's concert and wante to play with him but Jimmi didn't want to but they got together and talked and since then Roy became a avid jimmi fan but never played live together> Research it!
In defense of Roys vocal ability, his guitar skills would outshine the best voice in the world. Jeff Beck,Mark knopfler, the list is quite lengthy of phenom guitarists who cant sing for shit.
Love Roy.....the VERY BEST that ever picked up a 🎸

This is incredible! He is sooooooo cool! And what an absolutely stunning guitar player! OMFG!
What a master on guitar. Truly a legend. RIP body.
I've seen alot of guitarist in my fifty years but this guy is my favorite, he can make any and every sound on his guitar like no one I've ever heard.
