I have a red 2007 xb9r, bought it about 8 months ago and I’ve fell in love with it. Parts are expensive and hard to find but it’s 110% worth it, this is the best bike I’ve ever owned. I love the way it sounds and handles, and it never fails to catch everyone’s attention. It’s a very unique and torqy motorcycle.
I have owned a 2006 (In yellow) since 2010. I just came across one at a dealership and snapped it up. I didn't think it was ugly I thought it was very unique and had a cool stance. I really knew nothing about them. The more I learned about what I had actually purchased the more I realized I had come across something special. Most certainly fun to ride. Definitely easy to ride. I would never sell it, ever. I don't take her out as much as I used to. I kinda consider it more of a museum piece now. It still turns heads when I take it out just because there's not many of them around anymore. It has a Jardine leaf-blower on it and it sounds like nothing you have ever heard.
@Ural Motorcyclist engine 100% American, Is frame made in Italy, As are a lot of other parts made in Italy. Erik made sure nothing but the best went into his bikes.
@Ural Motorcyclist it was Harley restraining him and preventing him doing what he wanted to do. It was Harley that forced him to use the engine it had. Look at what he was capable of with the ebr bikes You're a fool.
I own one of these (even same color) and I've wrenched and owned more bikes than I can remember and the XB9 is one of my favorites, more grins per mile than anything else. If you have the opportunity, do yourself a favour and buy one of these. They are just plain fun!

I have a Ulysses and an XB9R. Even though the 1200cc is bigger with more power I still like the square bore 984. Both bikes are absolutely a dream to ride. I modded the handlebars on the XB9R and Lightning pegs on as a concession to old age and more Street position. The Ulysses really needed an upgrade EBR race ECM to run proper due to emissions. It went from wiffy to stiffy with Plug and Play for 250 bucks.

Question a few things. Where'd u hear Erik worked with Porsche. I know hd did for the vrod. And thought the ztl was 8 piston. Maybe that's just the 1125r though. The Buell with a rotax engine
Erik was developing a new engine for Buell. He wanted something water cooled. This was after Harley owned the company outright. Harley took that engine for use in their new V-Rod because they wanted something different. The only trouble with this engine was it didn't have the potato potato sound of a Harley. Harley Engineers worked on the engine for three years trying to get the sound like a normal Harley. They eventually brought in Porsche engineers to finish the engine to get the sound. Buell went with the Rotax after HD took the prototype.

When you finally understand Buell design, you realize how other bikes seem thoughtlessly designed.
Because in comparison they are, Erik Buell was a racer and an engineer, he had a mind for this stuff and made it fully functional.
