Let me explain it rather clearly. When 'known' is used as verb in passive voice, it always takes 'to', obviously, no exception at all. But when the same is used as an adjective, it may take different prepositions, as the sense demands it. For examples, 'The king was known(used as adjective)for his heroic exploits', A man is known(here used as adjective, not as verb) by the company he keeps. Hope that you would keep this distinction in mind while using the word, 'known'. Thanks.
