I have a 2021 Legacy Touring XT but I never played this video all the way through to the car's "Dad Voice" lecturing you on how to drive it. That unscripted bit was so spot on to describe my car. You nailed it. 😂
Hi, Dietrich. I gave GT here in Winnipeg. Try two Sports mode (if you have them) then you’ll see the difference. Another throttle, another suspension come in play. Very spirited driving experience.
Great video! I've got a 2010 Subaru Legacy GT. 3 years into my ownership and I still absolutely love it. Subaru know how to make great cars. As someone who owned the WRX STI, which came manual only, how does the CVT compare? I find there's a tendency for manual enthusiasts to bag on the Subaru CVT transmission, but I've heard that they're really well designed?
I think the CVTs are fantastic for what they are for. They are certainly not as engaging or as "fun" as a manual transmission (I've also had a WRX STI in the past) but they are smooth, provide good acceleration and improved fuel economy. Personally I am a fan of the CVT.
Thank you for watching! The turbo engine really isn't necessary unless you are a real lead foot on the highway, the standard engine performs perfectly well.
Thank you! I am so Jealous of your "GT," I actually tried calling the parts department of a Canadian Subaru dealer to see if I could order the GT Emblem for my trunk but somehow they had no idea what I was talking about...
Nice choice! I just ordered the '22 version of this trim in Abyss Blue. Couldn't find a single one on a dealer lot anywhere (and none were incoming either). I believe this trim *is* called the Legacy GT in the Canadian market, Incidentally.
@@jessicahefner4114 Ordered one in blue yesterday as well. Was told that I will be able to take delivery the second week in November as one was scheduled to arrive at my dealership anyhow. I just had to add a few more accessories. 2nd week in November can not come quick enough
I am ordering a 2023 as soon as the ordering opens up at my local dealership. I know the sport trim will have the turbo with sport suspension, but my question is, will the Limited have the turbo also, or will I need to get the Limited XT/Touring XT for the Turbo? I want the leather seats since it's easier to clean up since I have a 4 month old son, &he's only going to get bigger&messier! Plus, I fell in love with the Harmon Karmond sound system. Thanks for the great videos&I can't wait to see a review for the 2023 from you!!
My understanding is that all the 2023 Legacy Sport models will have the turbo, but if you want the turbo in the Limited you'll still need to order the XT Limited. I'll try to get a 2023 to review when they come out! Thank you for watching!
@@rosswhitacre5529 yea, I found that out a few weeks ago. The salesman didn't know what trims/colors would be available yet. That's really disappointing, because I've been thinking if the touring XT is really worth the couple extra grand&if I should just get the limited&deal with not having a turbo, or get the sport, throw seat protectors down in the back, &hope I can get the Harmond Kardon installed into it(which I highly doubt will be an option)or get a complete aftermarket sound system installed either at the dealership or an authorized installer so I won't have any trouble about Subaru trying to say I voided a warranty by doing that. Or I guess I could get a 2022, but I really like some of the new features they have announced already like wireless android auto&upgraded safety.
I am torn between both as well, but read too many unreliable issues with the Giulia plus I work with someone who has one and they told me it spends more time in the shop then it actually gets driven. If I ever opt for an Alfa in the future, I am going to wait until the bugs are worked out and it's more refined. I take delivery of my new Legacy in a few weeks and I am very much looking forward to it
@@DJM626 The early 2017 models have a LOT of issues, but looking into the current ones, it seems to all be related to either a weak battery, or corrosion at the battery (as a result of shipping them over the Atlantic) causing most of the issues. Most of the actual bugs appear to have been worked out. Good luck with the new Legacy!
Having had both a WRX STI and now the Legacy XT, they are COMPLETELY different cars. Obviously the STI is very sporty, and the Legacy XT is way on the luxury end of the spectrum. Both great cars, but other than the badge on the steering wheel they don't have too many similarities from behind the wheel.
@@rwdplz1 Thank you! Actually just test drove a 2020 AR. Nice car overall but a little too plasticy inside for me, nowhere near as smooth of a ride as I felt a lot of bumps so Legacy definitely handled better but isn't a sports car like the AR. Needed to do this just to see which one I like better. Legacy for me. Good luck with your selection as well
Great video, although I'm a year late to the party... I'm going to shop the Limited vs Touring XT but haven't test driven either yet. I worry about the XT's extra 209 lbs, all of it sitting in the nose and no upgrade in brakes. I had an 2015 Legacy H6 which I loved except that it felt REALLY nose-heavy. Don't want a repeat! How does your XT handle and brake vs the naturally-aspirated trims, assuming you've driven them? Thanks.
Braking and handling on the XT is very close to the NA models, and I've driven the old 3.6Rs too and the XT doesn't feel anywhere near as nose heavy as that one did. The handling is definitely better on the XT than the 3.6R.
Service cost is about the same. Performance is completely different from your 3.6R. If you'd drove one of these Legacy XT's around town you'd be surprised at how slow it is and even accuse whoever gave you the keys of slipping you a regular 2.5i. However, get it out on the highway and floor it and its noticeably faster than your 3.6R there. Which brings me to fuel economy: it all depends on how/where you drive it. If you are doing mostly light throttle, easy acceleration, relaxed cruising on the highway, etc, you are going to see noticeably better mileage with the XT. If you have a heavy foot, it will be about the same or maybe just a little bit better than you're getting now.
Nobody is going to buy this car except me, so might as well make me happy and call it the Legacy GT. Subaru I hope you are listening. Maybe some person working at Subaru did , laughed and went back to business. Man , you are so full of yourself . You really think you are a big wheel.
I had one limeted 2.5 and I like except for the infotainment. It is horrible ,lags and freeze frequently and the auto start stop engine is horrible , other than that is a nice car
Dietrich Dummy you go on the road grossly over speeding and talking about the various parameters of car performance as if it is a virtue while the price of gasoline increases a lot. You are passing cars quickly like it is your right to performance test on the interstate. You have recorded your speeding on video. I think you are a public danger . Go do this on a test track.
LOL From 11:23 the car’s dad voice was hilarious… and true!

I got rid of that car last year, but the US Spec Legacy XTs didn’t have any sport modes
They😀 are called GT in Canada.
I KNOW! I called a couple Canadian dealers to try to order just the GT badging and none of them seemed to know what I was talking about
Congrats on your new car. I wish you & your family a happy new year. Stay safe, all the best & God bless.
Thank you Raamez, I wish you and your family a safe, healthy, and blessed New Year as well!
One of the few videos on here showing a legacy xt limited/touring aggressively driving, thanks!
Lol my pleasure

good review, like the "dad" voice :)

I've only really measured it on the highway, but it pretty much does what it says it's going to do. Low 30s all day long.
@@CarDietrich That's not bad for an AWD car that size and performance level. Thanks for posting the video!

Hopefully next generation of the 2.4 Liter Turbo has some sort of electronic assist/mild hybrid to compensate for the turbo lag
