Great video! I'm in my early 20's and I want to start archery.
+Nicholas Peterson I'm 15 and want to learn. I just don't know how to tell my parents that I want to learn
+Ashley Yoakum it's different for everyone but I usually just bring it up casually and hope for the best
+Nicholas Peterson that's what I'm hoping. But the biggest part is I wouldn't really have anywhere to practice so who knows
This is one of the best Video's on Archery for Beginners that I have seen thus Far!... Thanks so much for the Information! You are an EXCELLENT Archery Instructor!...Peace Love and "LIGHT" 2 U!...
Love the way you teach. Perfect demo. Thank You.
Was just about to try my hand at archery...for the first time ever tomorrow...and learnt all that I need to know to prepare myself for it. Thanks for a well crafted instructional video on the basics.
Very informative, well demonstrated and easy to follow. Looking forward to follow his instructions thru.
FANTASTIC! I will be using this video this fall/winter with our youth and beginner adult classes at Brigham Bowmen in Northern Utah!
Thank you for your video. Very informative. My husband, my 9 year old and I are getting started and your video is amazing.
Thank you so much
This is by far the most educational, straight forward video on archery. Thank you so much. I just got my Mongolian bow and am doing mounted archery. Now I know why my aim was off and how to fix it. I got a burnt left thumb (I use right side) and am wondering is this normal, or what should I do differently to avoid it. Have yet to had issue with string. (knock on wood) Thanks once again for the video!
Hello Jake and Blake, and great vid. I took archery in middle school, golly was that a long time ago XD. Anyway, I am here to re-learn the basics and get shooting again, I love the ancientness and elegance of a bow. I live in Wyo and am in the hills as much as possible great to be involved in something that is sports, outdoors, requires skill and revamped ancient equipment. I bought a second-hand old longbow today from the thrift shop, and gonna tool around with it, it is great to know and have learned the basics from you though, thanks again and good shootin!
Great video and teaching for beginner. I have just started taking classes and love it. Want to get my own bow and have watched many videos but unsure which to get.
This is a great video. I have been shooting a bow(not a compound) for fifty years now and I do believe that whether you're engaged in Target, Field or Hunting Archery, that Archery is not a particularly hard sport to learn if you have the proper equipment and instruction. Without the proper equipment and instruction, you will not get progress, you will get problems.
Good job Jake. Nice intro to shooting olympic style shooting. Enough but not too complicated.
Wow you are incredibly thorough! Thank you for this amazing video! I’m starting some proper practice tomorrow!
What a great teacher you are ,I'm new to archery and I've learnt a lot thanks
I like the technique of figuring out your bow. As someone who is left handed, I actually do most sports the right handed way some reason. This makes it much easier rather then having to explain when being told to use whatever your dominant hand is
Excellent video. I got my first bow in 1976. I probably have at least 50 of them now. I couldn't imagine shooting with the arrow above my index finger, though. I wonder why he recommends it. Also, a glove is better than a tab for new archers-less to think about. It is a "life time sport". Great video. Thanks for posting and encouraging more kids.
Nice vid. I'm not sure how I missed it until 2 months or so after I started shooting and watching 1000 other introductory archery vids. ;-) I always enjoy seeing bowstrings vibrate in slow motion on youtube vids. So interesting. Thx.
Great job Jake, with your permission I'll use this with my kids, thanks for the video.
This is a great video with jake kaminski! He will always be an awesome archer.
You are an excellent teacher Jake. Thanks for the tips
Excellent demonstration of "keep it simple"
excellent. archery should be something everyone has tried at least once. its surprising how many people i know who haven't even held a bow let alone shot one and they are seriously missing out in my opinion.
I've always been told to look at your target when shooting since I don't have a bow with sights I usually hit the target 85 per. of the time.
Thanks Jake !! Great intro video to share with those interested in the sport.
Great informative video, however it moved along pretty fast/ had to rewind a couple times
I started archery 2 days ago at my local club and everyone there thought I have come from another club lol! They love my draw, form, everything. I broke the junior club record on day one, and broke my own record on day 2. I'm the talk of the club.
I have had a similar experience! I think its because we have visual accuracy when targeting.
Thanks Jake and Hoyt for this helpful video.
Great video! I started archery with a 22lbs recurve, but i've never shoot with my fingers placed underneath the knocking point. (i'm okay with the normal way) Now that i'm sort of mentoring the newbies, i find it easier for them to do this way too, by placing their fingers underneath the point.
Just the information I was looking for to get started in archery! Thanks Jake!
7 yrs on and STILL a great video. Has me wondering how good is Blake now 7 yrs later?
Very informative, well made video, excellent job Jake and Blake,Thanks
i'm 25 years old now and i'm suddenly fall in love archery and also suddenly want to represent my country in archery in tokyo 2020 olympic..do you think i still have time to do so ?
Matthew Livermore yeah, i feel like at 25 years old with zero skill..its just a dream
if you think you can , then try , dreams come true but you have to fight for it , no one will come to fight for your dreams and it is never too late if you do not try
Btw I have the same goal , and I'm in the same position that you ,in 4 years with a lot of training every day I feel I can
:D
thank sir..u r so kind to share ur knowledge ...i personally feel so thankfull
Excellent video, clear concise explanations and instructions. Thank you :)
the only problem with archery is finding a free space to practice it.
+Terra Jade yeah I thought of that but one can never know when a child pops up from nowhere...
I've always been bad at shooting. I think the best advice I got from this video is to avoid the death grip ... I kept doing that and no one told me otherwise. I'll have to try this out next time I do this.
right because think it through logically. What happens when you tense up your muscles holding it. Your hand vibrates and shakes even ever so slightly. So that vibrating of your hand because you are tensed up shakes the bow just enough to offset your aim and redirect the arrow where you don't want it to go.
edit: although this is a 6 year old comment lmao so im sure you are a boss by now but i'm new to this video at least.
hey jake, im writing a book at the moment which is set in medieval times with a focus on archery for two of the main characters. i was hoping i could talk to you to make my writing a bit more authentic. especially since i need to have my characters trained
Cheers mate, very informative and intuitive.
Good video. Might make one like this
Nice tattoo. The Lord Bless you and great demo... gunna give it a go at 62... when I've finished the gym and watching Rambo 👍😁
Great instruction for beginning archers!
oh my yes that was amazing :) damn good job and I'm gonna go download this song as well haha
Great video. Thank you for posting it.
Thank you for this video....I have an AR15 Rifle and a Beretta 92X but now am interested in getting into ARCHERY since pullets are so very expansive and I feel like I want another weapon for protection, but where I can learn everything that I need to know? Can anyone tell me where to go, please!
Fantastic mr jake.
excellent info. thanks for simplifying.
very comprehensive information thumbs up thank-you
Excellent demo
I haven't tried this :) ARCHERY is part of my Bucket list :)
I can watch this again and again....
So when you're shooting at a long-distance what's the technique for arching your arrow up to hit your target there's a technique to it and I don't know enough about it could you explain thank you Ken looking forward to hearing from you
The Mexican archers are really doing well at the pro Recurve competitions in the past few years.
Very nice tutorial!
this is an excellent instruction video
Great video but why move sight? Shouldn’t the shooter adjust?
oh my yes that was amazing :) good job and I'm gonna go download this song as well haha
Super informative, thanks for making this :)
great i am 11 years old and i am training archery for 3 years great sport
im thinking of getting into this. Im a newbie. Should I start off with a 20lb bow. Also what is the normal practice distance. looks like your only 10 yards away from the target. is 20 or 30 yards normal.
Thankfully this worked for me thanks bro
I'm right handed and I use my right when shooting guns, but when it comes to archery, I feel more comfortable using my left side, which is a bit difficult to aim since that's not my good eye lol 😞
Thanks Jake, learned more in 9 minutes then i ever knew ! you should teach ,you could make some cash ! again Aloha
Got a little question.
I'm into archery but I always wonder a thing about follow through. Is it so important Just for target archery?
I'm a "hunter & field" archer so I far away from using kilometric stabilyzers and what I'm used to see from me and other archers is that the bow stays still after the shot in order not to cause any bad affections; it doesn't fall at all and it's not that easy to make it fall without a stabilyzer. Same thing I see from compound field shooters.
So what's the right point?
having good follow through doesnt make your shot better but good follow through is an indication of a good shot
Great video.
awesome video. learned a lot. thanks :)
have to say. very nice video. Well done all.
I'm growing up starting with a medium sized longbow, no sight and I shoot with both eyes open and my arrow on the right side of the bow, btw I'm right handed and this is a historic way to shoot
excellent video....interesting.
Thanks man! Loved it :)
I'm only 11 and I started archery with one of my brothers bows that he got from somewhere and I used sticks as arrows and somehow over the course of a year I got better and I finally have a real bow with real arrows :D I had the stance from the beginning
Archery is life, it does at first but once you get used to it you feel fluent and you can shoot faster and move while you shoot
I've just taken up archery and have started lessons. I'm right handed but left eye dominant so my instructor had me on a left handed bow. Could someone explain this to me? I thought I'd still use a right handed bow?
well done and very well explained :)
super awesome video
I have that same bow model
Love the video!
love this video
Good tips!
I've wanted to start archery since forever, but there's no practice ranges or classes in my area. 😭
idk if buy a bow without pulleys or sheaves, help me know which works best shot I love your videos thanks sorry for my English I'm Mexican: 3
show us how blake shot arrows at the end
i want to do archery :=(
son looks happy
No what's the trip for long-distance I hear something about you Arch it up so it drops down what's the technique how did you do that
Nice intro: thank you!
I'm proud I'm such a natural.
Today I as unpacking a new compound an I cut the stabilizer strings off. :p No buggy really, I'm just going to go down to my local bow shop, I already put the sight on but needed to grab new arrows anyway :D
Man this was bomb
Great video!! I'm teaching my son but look's like i just got schooled!!
Great vid
Hi, at 3:20 in regards to draw length and bow size, is that relevant to Olympic/target/competition style archery only? What about hunting/just for fun weekend/hobby stuff? I find most bows are around the 62" size. Cheers
Kim SmithI'm very new to archery, but I believe the sizes are mostly relevant to the olympic/target type of shooting. Most hunters use a smaller bow because they are easier to walk around with. For weekend type stuff I'd say get whatever you want. I do believe that shooting an undersized bow is more difficult. My first bow is a 62". If I went by the chart, i'd need a 68" bow, but I don't want to bow fish with something that large.
Kim Smith Your bow has to fit you. Most of the recurve stuff you can find in the box stores is made for adolescents/pre-teens. With a recurve or longbow you can overdraw the bow if it's too short. When overdrawn, the limbs start to reach their elastic limit and they get really hard to pull further. This is called "stacking". The extreme is a broken limb. By using a longer bow the limbs don't bend as much and they won't stack. If the bow is too long, the limbs won't bend enough and the bow won't be as efficient and arrow speed and consistency will fall. A lot of modern hunting recurve bows are built to withstand a more severe bend so they can be shorter and still shoot well but many will still start to stack at 29 or 30 inches. You have to draw and shoot them a few times to know if they will work for you. I pull to almost 30 inches and shoot a 70 inch bow for target but my "fun' recurve is only 67". I use a compound for competition and shoot recurves for training and fun.
i aim with with my left eye but I use a right handed bow and my right hand is my dominant hand what do I do ??
very helpful
Okay my dominant eye is definitely left but I'm right handed. Wouldn't i be terrible at shooting with my left?
imakefoodhappen hmmm, if you are a complete beginner I would definitely suggest going with a left handed bow. I’m left eye dominant as well, but when I started I just assumed that I needed to shoot right hand because I’m right handed and I can’t really switch because I’ve already invested a lot of money into my equipment.
Seriously? Jake and Blake? :D
Good video, very helpful, thanks :)
at the beginning of the video, the kid on the left looks so fucking mad
Thank you :)
Thanks man .....
The kid looks fed up😂
So 5 minutes ago I was watching some dudes doing achery and I was like "So cool! I really wish I could do that, but I don't even know how I could get started". And then I'm watching this, and first thing this dude says is "the most common question I get asked is 'how do I get started?' " Holy shit, totally feels like he just read my mind! Or maybe I'm just a really regular person.
i was watching the same dudes :D
Haha...now it feels like you read my mind
