Amateur footage of ABC Television Studios in Didsbury Manchester (formerly the Capitol Theatre and Cinema), which was the northern base of the Associated British Corporation's ITV service from 1956 - 1968. Many famous productions were either broadcast live or recorded at these studios, including Armchair Theatre and the Pathfinders children's series amongst others. After ABC moved out the studios became part of the Manchester Metropolitan University and many famous actors performed there whilst studying drama, including Julie Walters, Bernard Hill, David Threlfall and Steve Coogan. The building has since been demolished to make way for flats. There's also footage of the building that housed the administrative and sales departments of ABC television in the centre of Manchester that was called Television House.

This building meant so much to so many for so many reasons ( yours being typical of how bizarre some of the reasons were!).
My reason for making it quite impossible for me to ever forget this iconic building is that as a young student I was employed at £1 a day to sweep the studio floor in preparation for one of the first LIVE transmissions made by ABC-TV.
I fell in love with the place and ,against ALL parental advice, chose to turn my back on a 'sensible job' in favour of being 'trained' for goodness knows what.!
Cutting a very long and happy story short, my training resulted in my having the honour, in 1969, of Producing & Directing the very last show !

I remember this place well, as a kid...Opportunity Knocks...Jimmy Clitheroe to name a few shows at the ABC Studio's.
I actually ended up being one of the Clitheroe gang members, as they used to shoot the show from my avenue where i lived...good times lol
