Well done with the one take Mr S. Christmas traditions for me are mostly to do with making the Christmas foods, Mincemeat made, ( and 2 Christmas puds 2. versions this year as granddaughter is vegetarian. Sausage rolls; quiche; millionaire's shortbread and mince pies still to make. spent this afternoon writing all my cards, and wrapping some late gifts, and opened the Christmas crackers and put in specific gifts in 5 of the 6, (yes I even do one for me) Still need to make some earrings for daughter in law. Hope we will be having fun with our compendium of games, this year, as the children love board games. I also have a couple of jigsaws if anyone fancies that. I have ended up playing solitaire scrabble. Our main problem this year is that our plumber, who was supposed to come on the 18th to install a new shower was taken to in hospital over the weekend, and is not allowed to work for a while! So that wont be don till January. Decided disappointment, but plumber's health much more important. and means that our conservatory still contains the wall boards shower fitments an various other odds and ends. I think we will have to move one of the chairs out to be able to put up the tree!
Laughed so much to "our date" reference... "the tables already groaning under the weight of the cutlery" 😂😂 Unfortunately there are no traditions for me this year because I'm home alone this Christmas... However I have been supported by a wonderful member of this channel, to start my own tradition! Something on the lines of bubble bath radio on loudly and af bucks Fizz for breakfast!
I'm usually doing a Downton Abbey marathon for Christmas. Haven't started yet this year, been crazy busy! Maybe I'd try that Murrey Christmas movie you mentioned... never saw it!
My youngest kid and I did a jigsaw puzzle today. It's a cool new one I bought in the summer planning to open it up in December. The pieces are wooden and all weird shaped. There's stars and trees and snowflakes but there's also a cat-shaped piece with a hand-shaped piece adjacent to it as if someone's petting the kitten 😊 the picture is Christmassy as well Santa or maybe not, maybe it's a Russian Ded Moroz coz he doesn't have reindeer, only a single horse instead is pulling the sleigh. I'd say it's tradition since we've done jigsaw puzzles a few years in a row now. And I remember doing a huge one with my parents when I was a kid as well. Maybe that's why I like it 😅 PS you can just call me Oksana (and your pronunciation is spot on by the way!) Turkina is my last name. It's fine if you use both, makes me smile and feel like JackieChan or something 😅
Most of our Christmas traditions have fallen by the wayside, both a sorrow and a relief, but I found out recently one remains. I played the exceptional musical Scrooge (1970) with Albert Finney every December, often on Christmas day. My middle son who lives 4 hours away told me he plays it, loves it, and remembers. I still play it too. Great soundtrack, good acting, pathos, some scary bits, humor, redemption. Also it's where I learned to play The Minister's Cat, a very fun game we used at Christmas parties.
Mr. S! have you seen The Holdovers? you might like that one as a Christmas movie. i actually watch the Hogfather movie every year on the 21st. also fairy lights in the window. John Fahey Christmas music. and a christmas tree with a collection of ornaments (mostly animals, hearts and stars, i think… oh and gnomes, goats, gnomes with goats) when feasible. oh and french toast at my dad’s house Christmas morning. he does an excellent french toast.
We start the holidays with Thankmas (it's a charity event done each year on UA-cam.) Then we ride around listening to Christmas music and looking at lights while drinking cocoa. On Christmas eve we open up new pajamas and do a family game night while watching Christmas episodes of Dr. Who.
