Things were much slower and friendler back then.
hello from central illinois! things are still slow and boring “downstate” and i love it! spent six years living in chicagoland after school and have some good memories, but there’s no place like the flatlands. thanks for sharing.
Golconda still exists 😊
Neetoo . It's amazing there's the same number roughly people that live in my town today. I looked up in that town has the same amount today
OK, what was the surprise??????
XD That slayed me! Everyone's gotta plan a trip to find out! Can't do human nature like that and leave us hanging!

Gotta love the "sunflowers"
Growing up in Monticello (1970's) I don't recall the sunflowers at all.Did they fade away?
Been a long while since I was there (in Ill.), but as I recall, anyone caught pronouncing it Ky-roe would get a quick punch in the face from anyone that actually lived in Kay-roe. Weird, I know, but that's the Ill. I remember. (perhaps somewhat ironic to be called weird by a Californian by choice, but that's life😉)
🤔✌
It's interesting how so many small towns all over the place have different pronunciations from the "original" like that. Here in Kansas, my dad's hometown is Milan. It is not pronounced "muh-lahn" like in Italy, but "my-luhn". There are some fun UA-cam videos about people trying to figure out town pronunciations.
@@YearoutDMSand Virginia has it's fair share. They will swear Norfolk is pronounced "Nah-Fawlk", and Dumfries is "Dum-freeze". Very humbling to watch as a modern fancy city boy who grew up in New York City and was born and raised in Atlanta Georgia.
At 5:23 is a WC Allis Chalmers with corn picker attachment.
Wanting to live in Illinois nowadays is like giving up on life… I lived there, long enough!
They don't grow wheat 🌾 around Springfield
Buddy of mine's from Elgin. I wanna show him this.
btw, Elgin's famous for watches, as I understand it. And they definitely made a punnish reference to that. 0:27
cool
Anyone from Sesser, during this time? I have questions.
I guess the rest of the original reel was too badly deteriorated as it ended abruptly.
it's definitely missing some footage!
