I have been following you for a while now. I’ve always been very blown away by your work. I think I will try my hand at making something. If I make a bait, can I send it to you to try out and have you give feedback? You can call it a “Fan Day!” Video rather than a “One Day!”
Possible tip: I use transparency film (from old school overhead projectors) and a soldering iron to make stencils that work better than paper and can be reused.
Nate, I really appreciate you talking about the artform of what you’re doing in the video. It’s nice to hear you actually take yourself seriously. It was yeti-esque and I’m here for it.
When I visited Iowa for my college roommates wedding, I stopped and fished at the same pond you fished at (the first pond with the white bass lure) and met a fellow fisherman. We chatted about you and how much we love your channel. You the GOAT my dude. 🙌
I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.
I've watched most, if not all of your videos and I keep thinking I can't be surprised by your talent. But, here I am again with my mind blown. Incredible detail!
i think i’ve watched 90% of your videos. so good to have more coming. i literally have no idea about fishing or baits, i watch your videos before sleep and sooner than i know im asleep. you have a very therapeutic voice and the baits are spectacular! just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart, you really make my days easier.
Love the attention to detail on the sink test. I build custom spearguns and the same sink test is so important. It's all about balance. Great job Nate.
Idea for stencil: print your fish on one of those plastic sheets made for overhead projectors (flashback to schools in the 80-90's) and then drill out the pattern or melt with the soldering iron? Should be sharper edges and the it won't soak in the paint like paper.
Seeing all the work being done with big swimbaits like this, makes u appreciate the price of many of the big glide baits on the market....that is quite a skill u have.....👍
A White bass Swimbait is an awesome idea. I use a Saltwater Megabass Vatalian that looks like a whitebass when Whitebass are running. The big bass smash it. Your spot on about it being a forage fish, with the numbers of em that move to spawn, Predators go crazy for em.
I can totally relate to just wanting to make the cool bait and not worrying about the camera angles and all that. It definitely is more work to video the whole build; I appreciate you taking the time to video this build and edit it. I loved it and I guess you probably enjoy the revenue too! 😀
An old woodworker taught me that if you grind sharp the first inch or so of teeth closest to the handle on a pull saw you'll cut straight every time. No more bouncing off line. It works. 👍🏼👍🏼
The initial reason I started watching your channel was the razor whittling for the first edge as you call it. Great to hear that is your favorite part!
If your getting into spicy coffee you can add any dried chili peppers in with the coffee grounds when you brew a pot. Cayenne and cinnamon coffee is especially delicious!
The classic chip interrupt. 😂🤣❤️❤️ Also, idk if I'd want to drink ghost pepper coffee at 5am.... I'd be walking bowlegged by 6:30 and regretting all my life choices. Lolol Glad to see a video, as always, it's a pleasure to watch and listen to you work. Best part of my week.
Really enjoyed the more introspective VO to start the vid. That stenciling strat probably works better for production lures/1 day builds than something you can take your time and hand paint. For baits like this one its fine to keep the more detailed fins. Good baits catch a lot of fish, great baits catch a lot of fishermen.
As a Manitoba angler, the bait you tested reminded me of the colour of our lake Winnipeg green back walleyes. I would love to see you create a lure like that in the future.
Love your work very gifted buddy and the music makes it really official keep up the great work and humor! Need that good looking wife to show her helping you out with the camera, you lucky dog dog,!! 16:38
Knowing magnets and metal...Im curious...has your hand saw ever become magnetized from rubbing it over the magnet block? Also inspired for a bait idea....in the joints what if you were to put small magnets opposing each other so the joints are magnetically pushed back...I feel like that would make a swim bait more "muscular" with it's strides....almost like using the magnets as artificial muscles to push the body back...also I absolutely love the mini lures I had got one from Walmart for $1.25 and I've caught more fish on this mini lure then I have on my $35 realistic looking swim bait....
Woohoo!! New video! Wow man, whether intentional or not you could teach the "corporate bait makers" how to make a great wake bait. It's great for it to do its thing from the first handle crank throughout the retrieve no matter the angle of the rod tip, distance of cast, and line type or size. Also, to have different size baits but no matter the size have them heavy enough to cast but yet still bouyant and super wakers. That bait would be petfect for our night time topwater walleye in late winter/early spring here in East Tennessee. It's Super fun!!! Thanks for the videos!!
Go for fruitier tasting peppers in the coffee, jalapeno are kind of vegetal --like bells; I'd think scotch bonnets, bird chili, thai chili, some of the really fruity special hybrids (like pineapple or peach aji) out there may also get tossed into coffee too. Cayenne is very berry-fruit tasting, almost like cherries believe it or not lol. Another weird thing is to take dark, kind of heavy tasting coffee and brew it with a bag of earl grey tea, it's an old british thing which is surprisingly good. Coffee fruit itself is really odd, fresh it kindof tastes like the smell of soysauce and earth mixed with cranberries.
They make clear plastic sticker material for stencils on cars. It’s made to stencil flames or graphics on a car, but it’s sticky on one side and plastic. I think maybe burning hole into the plastic would be easier and it’s a sticker so easy to stick on the bait and seal itself to the bait and have a clean no overspray finish. They make it triple layer double sided too, so you could actually make your pattern, peel one side, paint the left side of the bait, then take it off peel the opposite side of the sheet and paint the other side of the bait with the exact same stencils, the sheet itself becomes a mirror image of itself when you peel the opposite side so you have a left and a right side, painting cars you want matching flames on both sides so it’s a double stencil, Good luck pal thanks for the videos.
Idea I know it’s nothing fancy like you make all the time but you should make a spook they’re one of my favorite lures and It’s a lure you could definitely make O-fishal
When you were doing the hand thing trying to verbalize what the flat head would do, I could only think of one thing. "Dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge." 😂😂😂
Another great video. Just a thought, perhaps you could cut the rear fins off with a dremel, patch the clear coat with some UV clear coat, put on some slightly larger hooks and then take it to the river/pike spot to see it you can connect with a piky-poo? Since you've written the bait off anyway, it wouldn't hurt to give it a try.
Also, you should try making your fins out of soft plastic. Like, have you buddy at Epic Bait Molds make you up an injection mold that is just fins. Then glue those fins into the wooden bait.
If you need an idea I think a betta fish swim bait would be pretty cool
Iridescent mylar strips for the fins....that would be a sick bait
Beta fish would be awesome
I’ve been saying that too!
A marine betta, even better.
Bro what about a glow fish
I got discouraged and depressed for the past three years, just started watching again, glad you’re still doing your thing. Thanks for not giving up
We need more podcast material with you and Chelsea. You guys always crack me up. 😂
I have been following you for a while now. I’ve always been very blown away by your work. I think I will try my hand at making something. If I make a bait, can I send it to you to try out and have you give feedback? You can call it a “Fan Day!” Video rather than a “One Day!”
What a cute little lady😊
Possible tip: I use transparency film (from old school overhead projectors) and a soldering iron to make stencils that work better than paper and can be reused.
fine line between a lure being an "art" piece and a fish catching device thank you for the work you do
Nate, I really appreciate you talking about the artform of what you’re doing in the video. It’s nice to hear you actually take yourself seriously. It was yeti-esque and I’m here for it.
It’s your attention to Detail that makes your Builds so, GREAT! Thanks 😊
White bass are some of my favs to catch so fishing with one has gotta be interesting!
When I visited Iowa for my college roommates wedding, I stopped and fished at the same pond you fished at (the first pond with the white bass lure) and met a fellow fisherman. We chatted about you and how much we love your channel. You the GOAT my dude. 🙌

This is more artwork than bait - amazing 🤩
It made me happy to see you had a new video. I was starting to have withdrawals. I can only watch your old videos so many times.
loving the voiceovers!
That white bass looks amazing! You are one hell of an artist
Love the attention to detail on the sink test. I build custom spearguns and the same sink test is so important. It's all about balance. Great job Nate.
That is a piece of Art! Sweet lure.
Here it is some good stuff to be inspired to make my channel better! ❤
Double your split rings to get the hooks further away from the fins. It will also give them more rotation in the fight.
Yes, I have had success doing that on baits that were difficult to get hookups on, good comment.
You're just such an amazing dork to listen to. Top 3 favorite youtube creators easily.
Craftsmanship!!!! Plain and Simple!!!! A Lesson to All !!! Take Pride I Your Craft 👍👍👍👍👍
Another killer looking bait Nate! As a wood bait maker myself, your videos are like motivational gold.
Idea for stencil: print your fish on one of those plastic sheets made for overhead projectors (flashback to schools in the 80-90's) and then drill out the pattern or melt with the soldering iron? Should be sharper edges and the it won't soak in the paint like paper.

You could make and sell more of these, It would look wonderful on a desk or bookshelf. Its a piece of art in my opinion.
Beautiful blueish hue, the sun just dancin right off 'em, just nice, gettin ready to take 'em to market.
An umbrella rig would be a pretty cool project or a skeletonized lure!
Skeletonized lure would be cool he would make it look amazing could make it look like it's been rotting missing an eye fin could be all messed up
Another work of art!! I love how your video style just sucks you in for 30 minutes without noticing!! Thank You for the videos!
A White bass Swimbait is an awesome idea. I use a Saltwater Megabass Vatalian that looks like a whitebass when Whitebass are running. The big bass smash it. Your spot on about it being a forage fish, with the numbers of em that move to spawn, Predators go crazy for em.
This is what I call “geeking out” on a project. When the attention to detail goes through the roof for no reason other than “just because”.
Great looking lure. I've been making lures for years. There's no feeling like catching a fish on a homemade lure. Pure bliss.
Omg don't lose that.😳. It's so amazing looking!!!
This is beyond just a lure. That's some serious art right there. So cool.
You seem like the coolest guy to hang out with, makes these videos 100x better. Keep it up
I can totally relate to just wanting to make the cool bait and not worrying about the camera angles and all that. It definitely is more work to video the whole build; I appreciate you taking the time to video this build and edit it. I loved it and I guess you probably enjoy the revenue too! 😀
i know you can also get oblong split rings. that could also work
Man, your painting/airbrushing skills are amazing.
You’re the best fishing youtuber on this platform!
An old woodworker taught me that if you grind sharp the first inch or so of teeth closest to the handle on a pull saw you'll cut straight every time. No more bouncing off line. It works. 👍🏼👍🏼
Just glad to hear some Sturgill In the background! Your workmanship is superb sir! 🤙🏼
The initial reason I started watching your channel was the razor whittling for the first edge as you call it. Great to hear that is your favorite part!
When I watch your videos, I feel like I can catch fish no matter what I use.🐟
If your getting into spicy coffee you can add any dried chili peppers in with the coffee grounds when you brew a pot. Cayenne and cinnamon coffee is especially delicious!
Woof that stencil idea is some good stuff.
I had some kombucha with cayenne pepper this week. It too, changed my life.
I do enjoy the voice over videos.
This is going to be a good day thanks for the upload Nate hope the family is well.
The classic chip interrupt. 😂🤣❤️❤️
Also, idk if I'd want to drink ghost pepper coffee at 5am.... I'd be walking bowlegged by 6:30 and regretting all my life choices. Lolol
Glad to see a video, as always, it's a pleasure to watch and listen to you work. Best part of my week.
As someone who is currently in the pursuit of their first musky, I would really love to see a series of musky bait making and fishing. Think about it
Love the steve1989 reference. And those are beautiful baits, as usual.
many thanks for you videos. what a passion!!! take care philippe
you are an artist by heart
Looks amazing brother. You should replace the fins and keep it as a wall hanger! The action is spot on. I really enjoyed the paint job.
I do the same thing with printable transparencies. Now I am up to my gills with reusable stencils 😂
Silicone fins and bigger hooks, and that thing would hook up just fine. I think it would be a killer for big muskie.
Beautiful job, as always.
As a Manitoba angler, the bait you tested reminded me of the colour of our lake Winnipeg green back walleyes. I would love to see you create a lure like that in the future.
Epic lure building! Amazing job well done!
Truck lure!? I think we now need to see a Tacoma Lure! 0:52 Fun facts on a Toyota Tacoma would be hysterical!
Very Very Nice looking Bait !
This is, hands down, my favorite bait you've ever made. It's absolutely spectacular. What a freaking rig, bud.
I’m amazed at the artistic skills you have! Each piece is a collectible treasure . You are the DaVinci of lure creators.👍🏻👏🏻
Dude coffee with any fitting seasoning is so good. Even just black pepper
The bait looks great. Love the color schemes!❤🔥🔥🔥
Woke up this morning and wished that marling posted a new vid. I’m soooo stocked!!
Loving this! I'd love to see you try a Murray Cod lure, insane body structure and colours! Keep it up!
Thumbnail looks lovely
Love your work very gifted buddy and the music makes it really official keep up the great work and humor! Need that good looking wife to show her helping you out with the camera, you lucky dog dog,!! 16:38
He sounds like he just slammed that spicy coffee before the voiceover 🤣. Loved the Eastbound reference.
Nice bait and awesome paint job

Great idea on the magnets to make the bait "swim"!!!

You make my headaches go away

Coffee fruit itself is really odd, fresh it kindof tastes like the smell of soysauce and earth mixed with cranberries.
You should make a baby pike lure to go with the baby musky
Working in and around the slot is my favorite
Wood burning a stencil.....brilliant!
Wow, that is insanely cool! Nice work buddy, even though the fins impeded the hooks 😊👍
In the spring and fall in the cove there is a pipe that the crappie stack up on can be pretty good for ice fishing as well
So sick!! Beautiful lure. I tell ya what!!
Idea I know it’s nothing fancy like you make all the time but you should make a spook they’re one of my favorite lures and It’s a lure you could definitely make O-fishal
I would setup a pool filter and a floating bromine pod and it will stay clean.
That would be your test tank.
Why don't you try a 3 piece deep diver?
Voiceover + live commentary fishing works for me!
Really enjoyed the voiceover
wood burner stencil...That's a neat trick!
StripBass fishing lure when ? 😋
When you were doing the hand thing trying to verbalize what the flat head would do, I could only think of one thing.
"Dodge,duck,dip,dive and dodge."
😂😂😂
Best fins I have seen on a bait
Once again, another amazing vid
You are the best UA-camr in the world keep it up great content
Thanks for the comment of the coffee Cayyenne pepper. Im going to try it.
You got mad skills my guy!
You should make a mandarin fish lure
Another great video. Just a thought, perhaps you could cut the rear fins off with a dremel, patch the clear coat with some UV clear coat, put on some slightly larger hooks and then take it to the river/pike spot to see it you can connect with a piky-poo? Since you've written the bait off anyway, it wouldn't hurt to give it a try.
Love your videos. Makes me want to go fishing!
I wouldn’t fish with that it’s art. Finished product looks so nice
What a realistic lure !
thats a cool bike looks very light
Great job homes. I need one of those. I see what you mean by the fins blocking the hooks. Maybe I can buy one after the mod.
Also, you should try making your fins out of soft plastic. Like, have you buddy at Epic Bait Molds make you up an injection mold that is just fins. Then glue those fins into the wooden bait.
