Same here brother. With the stretched Fall weather we are looking at one half dose of Apiguard.

I hear ya. We need more treatment options

Most of the mites drop in first 24 hrs afyer oxalic vapor from my observations. I do formic until end of sept. Then switch to oxalic and use sticky boards to monitor drop, applying 4g every 3 days. I had a couple yards that got to 10 percent mite counts that still see mites drop after 7th application of oxalic. It works.. but have to do it a lot more than you think and any amount of capped brood can hide a lot of mites. I'm in alberta and seem to have very similar mite counts to you. Hopefully the bees look OK in spring

I'm happy with Tymovar, the first time I used it this fall. Checked after treatment - few yards 1-2% biggest level - 3.5 one yard and the rest of the yards - 0%. Now going with ox second round

@Ktish74 That's good! We are on the 2nd roud of oxalic acid also. We are going to give a 3rd round next week.

Over half, probably 80% drop in 24 hours. Total drop in 3 days. If you wait more than 5 days between treatments some of the mites emerge, feed on the bees and escape below newly capped cells.

      @chamberelga1653 7 днів тому

@rtxhoneybees ok, thank you. Yes, we are here on the 2nd round now. It is exactly 4 to 5 days apart for those treated last week. And I'm decided to vap them a 3rd round next week. Instead of more Thymovar nor Apivar. Temperature starts dropping now. The 3rd round of oxalic acid is the best option in this case, and there is nothing to withdraw after. We don't have much time left.

I am in the same boat. I did 14 day/10 day/9 day thymol and still had4-8 percent. Clearly have far fewer hives but more time to worry and study. I put on a OA dribble today with glycerin instead of sugar to keep it out of them the best I can. Alas I am at the point were I am out of time and options like yourself. As you say every year is different.
fwiw... I think our mite washes are simply a poor representation of the number of mites in the hive.
The amount of capped brood vs the number of bees in the hive in combination with how much brood will hatch in the next ten days seem critical to understanding the actual real number.
When it comes to pigs that reproduce once a year but will make 10 were there was one, the numbers go up on an angle that is very steep not unlike out mite counts. We have shown over and over to have any effect at all we must kill 80% for two years running before we see any change in numbers (in the region) in the third year. If we do nothing in the fourth year they are back to year one numbers by then end of year five.
wtf does this have to do with bees? We should be willing and happy to see our mite washes stay the same for three weeks in a row if we wash and treat with OA once a week. It is only once the brood has started to hatch that was capped the first day we did a treatment that we can say we actually have a handle on mites.
I fail to see how a mite wash on Sept one followed by a treatment would expect to bring the next mite wash down next week. The mites you find in your wash next week were under wax last week thus a wash and treatment regiment that gave three washes in a row that said the same percent means you are winning. You are loosing if the number goes up. One has to keep treating until we see the number of mites collapse to below point five percent.
    I encourage rebuttal and ideas.
I dont claim to be right I am analyzing numbers.

Hello, fewer hives of many hives won't matter. The goal is the same even to 1 hive only. Trying everything we can to keep the mites level lower.
I would love to do OA dribble. It kills mites in 15 minutes I use to do it in the Philippines. But unfortunately, we are NOT allowed to do it here in Canada we can only use registered products.
Now temperature is dropping and I am decided to keep doing OA vap every 5 days. I'm going to start a 3rd round Next week and maybe 4th round the following. This is the only option left at this point.

@@chamberelga1653 OOOPs. I did not know it was "not allowed" Clearly BS as we can vape it or put it on pads .... oh like you said it works really well. Now I get it.
I am confident your OA vapes will do the trick if the weather stays warm enough to keep the bees moving around in the hive. Its one more task that has to be done... where to find the time?...
Thank you for the education. The time you have invested is not lost on me.

Thyme, Orageno, peppermint, Eucalyptus. There's a few others I've tried. I mix in spray bottle with thin sugar syrup.

@jimallen1176 That's interesting and that would be goo to have others options. But unfortunately, we can use any product that not registered here in Canada.
