still part of my daily commute, 12 years after I left Boston (now in Denmark). Thanks NPROne for keeping these precious recordings. And thanks MIT for this video!
Oh, I love them so much. I waited for every new show, every week, when I was 20 years younger... I wonder what these students/alumni think about this speech 20+ years later. I hope they are proud and now know what the Car Talk brothers were trying to say.
Lol! I was there in 1999, and I also went to Kofi Annan's speech in 1997. I don't remember anything from Kofi's speech, but I do remember Click & Clack's advice about being happy and grass being the highest form of life. These guys are typical MIT, very smart without being pretentious about it. Certainly glad I delayed my degree a year to hear these guys instead of the "diplomat from Arkansas" in 1998!
What a wonderful thing to be able to watch. Still I listen to Car Talk via podcast reruns, and I'd like to think that I, too, am "unencumbered by the thought process". Thanks for posting this, MIT people.
Man. I was a late arrival at Car Talk and when I found it -- I was -- wow, blown away. So, it was with some interest I came across this -- but halfway through and I can't help but think this is terrible.
2023. Holy Shit Says I...... I wish to be Unencumbered by the though process from here to eternity!!! There are many who would argue that I've been my whole life anyway...
These types of people are so annoying. Always interrupting eachother and playing it off like it's normal. Name dropping every chance they get. Just generally annoying people to listen to unless your "in" on all their inside jokes
What a disaster of a commencement speech... sheesh! You can tell Tom was very bitter with the university and wanted them to pay for it. Poor students, I would have walked out.🚶♂️ Love car talk though!
2020 and I'm still listening to car talk reruns. They will forever be a staple in my home.
Me too.. I think I've been listening to at least 1 episode a day.. it's keeping me happy lol
Me too, sometimes you don’t how good a think is till it’s gone.
2021, and absolutely. I grew up listening to them with my dad, my daughter is going to listen to them the same.
Same here, as well as PHC w/ Garrison Keillor.
same here.
The two most comforting voices there ever will be. No matter how bad your day is you can listen to car talk and time travel back to the good old days.
Still miss listening to the click clack brothers on the radio each Saturday. Love these brothers.
Great mantra to live by: “Have fun, enjoy the ride, and don’t drive like my brother.”
Tom and Ray were as genuine as they come. RIP Tom we miss you
2023 and I am still listening... Good old days

June 1 2024 and I'm cleaning my shop out listening to old episodes of Car Talk in south east illinois and ran across this one. Pretty neat.

They didn't get it. But they will someday. Lovely message. Thanks, guys.
Currently working as an engineer and I know exactly what Tom is taking about.
2023: hope Ray is keeping well.
I just visited the Good News Garage and CarTalk Plaza yesterday. I needed this today!
Ray looks so proud of his brother
big fan from Saudi Arabia, I've been listening to this before I got my mechanical engineering degree!
I was just wondering if they had/have an international audience
