    Thanks for these videos! Well now you have a very clean carb, and 2 good coils... I struggled last year on a similar Carb from a 25 hp Koehler engine on my jd g100. I took the carb apart, rebuilt, but too cheap to do the accelerator pump, and found no improvement. The second time around I did cough up the $60 to redo the accelerator pump, and that fixed my problems (low power, smoking, fuel in the oil). Was a pain taking it apart the second time, so glad you hung in there!

      Glad to hear you got it fixed. This one, like that one for you, was a learning experience.

    One thing you missed on your rebuild is pulling the fuel metering solenoid and cleaning out that cavity. If you look straight down the bowl in line with the solenoid you'll see a hole about 3/16" in diameter.
    I had black rubber particles from a bad hose plug that entry hole up.
    Mine ran so lean when that hole was plugged, I had to run it on full choke to get it back to the garage.

    Great video. I'm repairing a Kohler CH25S engine. There's a Keihin 24 053 carburetor. I wonder what the main gasoline nozzle should be there. If you can advise. Thank you.

    Still convinced that your running on one cylinder
    With the engine at full throttle disconnect one spark plug wire and listen to the change in the tone of the engine if it dies completely you know only that cylinder was firing. If you unplug it and nothing happens to the sound of the engine then you found the dead cylinder. Could be a bad plug but more than likely a bad coil

      You nailed it Alex. It was the coil. This series and listening to you guys knowing the sound will keep me better prepared for next time. I would have known to check the plugs first if I knew why that sound was off.

    I just got a new one from Amazon for $42.
    Couldn't resist even if I need to re-size the main jet it's a deal.

    Only firing on one cylinder and never mess with the governor, never, ever. Good luck.

      You nailed it and luckily I didn't touch the governor.

    $10 for a set of inline spark testers on eBay or at Autozone would have saved you a lot of time and pointed you toward the bad coil but you are now an expert on the Kohler carb :-) always check fuel flow from tank to pump then from pump to carb, then check spark with inline testers or by ground the plug out of the cylinder then go onto compression and/or leak down testing if necessary any significant issues there open up the engine check all gears cam also check value lash but these engines have hydraulic lifters so not valve adjustment is needed.

    the screws are japanese they have a dot on the top of the screws . I don't know the name of the screw driver but they have a different pitch on the end.

    John I have to agree with Alex, you definitely are running on 1 cylinder, your carb is fine, you did a fine job on the carb, you need to pull 1 plug wire with the motor running and it will either run the same or about the same or it will quit, then pull the other plug wire and try again and then you will know which cylinder is not working. If you're scared of getting shocked by the wire then take a piece of wire a couple feet long, strip a couple inches on 1 end and twist it on the handle of a pliers and ground the other end of the wire to the motor, then pull the plug wires off with the pliers and you can't get shocked that way. Once again you're running on 1 cylinder.

      Gordon, thanks for the tips. Especially how to check the coil without getting electrocuted. It did end up being the coil and not the carb but I had to pay someone else to tell me that and fix it. Now I'll know and hopefully others as well.

      Or, you could just pull the plugs, put them back into the wires and ground them and see which one is throwing a spark ? Always check spark first. Cheapest and easiest.

      I'm happy to say I haven't had any flooding issues with the carb but I'll know where to start looking if something weird happens.

    Sounds like running on one cyc. Check the coils, one is a bad. Common kohler issue. Take a plug wire off, if motor dies its that cyc coil. If not, it is the other cyc coil. Oh, and please dont do this at full throttle....no need. Good luck!

    • @CTSCAPER
      @CTSCAPER 6 років тому

      Thanks Brian. I would have done it at full throttle. It was the coil but I had to have someone else pull the engine and replace it.

      When I'm using the machine it's standard operating procedure to cover your ears immediately when you turn the machine off. With or without earmuffs because every little bit helps.

    I’m a diehard Kohler guy and a lot of times it could be a Coil Kohler are known for coils to go specially under a load like the other guys said disconnect one coil take it from there and if it is the coil change them out they have 2 coils but you never know it still could be the carburetor

    • @CTSCAPER
      @CTSCAPER 6 років тому

      John, you're right about the coil. I had someone else look at the engine after I went through this and they replaced a coil. I wish they would have replaced both since they were already in there. After the repair my battery isn't charging. I wonder if the two could be linked.
