If this were a true minute:sec timer, it should be set to 1000 -> 1000ms = 1sec. I think the reason why in the video he set it to 10 is so that we don't have wait a full 60 seconds to see the minute field increment.

that's not a timer. that's stopwatch

Late answer, but he named the video "Timer", cause the main tool here is the "Timer" one, not because it is a timer.
