- One of the most well made coming-of-age movies in Bollywood, 'Wake Up Sid', (2009) is directed by Ayan Mukherjee and produced by Karan Johar. This story revolves around a young Sid Mehra who is figuring life after college - walking away from his family, away from all the indulgence and into the lap of reality. "Aaj Kal Zindagi" features Shankar Mahadevan's voice, and the music is directed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. In this song, Ranbir Kapoor is seen adjusting to his new life and work as a photographer, with the help of his friend, the movie's leading lady, Konkana Sen Sharma.

Ranbir has never shared as great a chemistry with any other actress, be it Deepika, Katrina, Anushka, etc as he's done with Konkana in this movie. Their pair is so cute! The emotional intimacy they shared in this movie was so strong. Didn't require lip-locks or sex scenes for that. There is far more intimacy in platonic love filled with all those affectionate glances, cute hugs, cuddles, childlike glee and mischief, warmth and the sheer joy of companionship, rather than sex. Sid and Aisha had all this in their relationship and that was the reason for the sweet and innocent nature of the film. Wake Up Sid is my all-time favourite film.

Basically, this film shows that not only do polar opposites attract but can also have an incredible impact on each other's life and bring out the best in each other. Also, sometimes it's a total outsider who can come into your life, make you re-evaluate it, make you explore your most innate emotions, passions and desires and realize your calling. Aisha was the catalyst for Sid to take control of his life, assume responsibility, learn to clean up after himself, bring some semblance of order into his life and also realize the potential of his hobby as a profession. Aisha on her part, learnt from Sid that life is always enjoyed to the utmost extent while living in the moment and that the pursuit of goals shouldn't distract you from these simple joys.
In Aisha, Sid saw his inspiration to shape his life and chart a course. In Sid, Aisha saw the childlike glee in enjoying the journey along the course to attain a goal. Both imbibed each other's qualities to a great extent and discovered how much they actually had in common despite their different approaches to life. How they gelled so well despite the glaring differences in their personalities and attitudes. Mumbai became the metaphor for Aisha and Sid's deep love for each other as they began viewing their lives and their city in a completely new light after spending so much time together and nurturing a deep attraction for each other without probably even realizing it. The first rains at the end of the movie finally cemented their blossoming romance and they expressed the intense love they felt for each other.
A great film with some great and inventive writing. This film will always be close to my heart and soul.

I remember October 2009.I had broken up with my bf and I was extremely depressed and demotivated. One of my best friends took me to watch this movie in attempt to cheer me up.I remember listening to this song over and over again to pick myself again and try.This movie gave me a lot of strength.

What makes Wake Up Sid so special is that it gives a lot of important life lessons without even once being overly philosophical.
I failed in the 1st year of my college and it was a really tough but as soon as I came back in the 2nd year, my old friends had moved on although stayed in touch but then I found some new people they became friends and things got better one day while returning home i listened to this song on the radio and that could relate so much that life may give you setbacks but there's always something new ahead if you get back up ahead like it did for me when I found my friends. What a time that was :')

Ranbir acted with his heart and soul. Konkana acted with her eyes. Actually the entire cast did a fantastic job. Right from Anupam Kher, Supriya Pathak, Kashmira Shah to the guys who played Sid's friends, Atisha Naik who played Aisha's (Konkana) Maharashtrian neighbour, the kid who played her son, Rahul Khanna of course. The casting for this movie was bang on.
Every other movie used to show Mumbai as a place where only crime and other issues took place but this movie showed the good part of Mumbai...👏💯

Just watch Ranbir's acting in the climactic scene where he reads Aisha's article, realizing his deep love for her being reciprocated and you'll realize his superlative, God-level acting skills. The way he produces tears of joy at the very instant the drops of rain start falling is so fuckin' impactful! The timing is so perfect, it kinda confuses you whether those are his tears or the raindrops he's getting drenched in. The tears and the rain get mixed in such a manner that you can't tell them apart. Such awesome direction and camerawork behind it as well. Ranbir is an amalgamation of godly looks, acting talent and profound wisdom. Don't waste this man guys. He's a rarity. He's given us so many films to be proud of and we kept failing him. We really don't deserve you Ranbir. 😘

Not that action movies are bad in fact they are great but mind gets messed up after watching that and we need to get cool by watching such class movies and listening to such great peaceful music

A huge part of Wake Up Sid's appeal lies in the fact that it is totally set in an urban space like Mumbai. It was completely shot in Mumbai. The reason why it found a cult following among the metropolitan youth of the country and the general urban demographic. The movie wouldn't have been half as appealing had it been set in New York or London or some other foreign locale, in typical Dharma style. Kudos to Karan Johar for giving absolute artistic freedom to Ayan Mukerji. This film holds a special place in my heart.

One of the best things the makers did was that they kept Sid and Aisha's romance platonic. There was a very strong chemistry present between their characters without there being a single lip-lock or sex scene. The emotional intimacy between Sid and Aisha was very strong throughout the course of the film. There certainly was sexual tension between them, but sexual tension needn't necessarily always translate to sexual desire. It was more in the context of the emotional intimacy that Sid and Aisha shared, especially considering the fact that Sid always felt a strong attraction towards Aisha and always looked up to her and respected her, constantly seeking validation from her. And Aisha ultimately too discreetly started reciprocating Sid's feelings for her. The platonic nature of their relationship is what helped retain the sweet and innocent essence of the movie. Hands down, Sid and Aisha are one of the best jodis in Bollywood. The unconventionality of the pair is what made it so interesting. And loved.
