How To Check Grade with a Rotary Laser Level

  • Here’s how to use a rotary laser level.
Start by securing it to a tripod or a stable surface.
This laser will automatically self-level up to 5 degrees.
Turn it on, while the laser adjusts the light blinks; then it starts.
I set my grade rod on the top of this floor and adjusted the receiver until it aligns with the laser.
There are up and down arrows, and a solid tone lets you know you’re on the mark.
The laser is set at 2’ 10” above the floor.
The bottom of the pit I dug needed to be exactly 3 feet lower than the top of the floor, so to get this depth I raised the receiver 3 feet- to 5’ 10” mark.
By raising the receiver I’m lowering the bottom of the grade rod to the depth it needs to be, because the receiver always stays level with the laser.
Here’s how I use the level to check the height of my gravel.
The concrete slab is 6” thick, so by raising the receiver 6”- it puts the grade rod at the top of the gravel.
Historians say the pyramids were leveled by flooding the foundation- It would have been a lot easier with this laser. ‪@hausplans‬

Its really fun when you're just looking around and happen to be at the perfect height for your eye to catch the lazer.

I’ve used laser levels for 17 years before just recently switching to a ZipLevel. Best decision I ever made. ZipLevels make it so much easier to get really accurate readings, and I don’t have to jot down a bunch of numbers because I can zero out my benchmark and then let the ZipLevel do the rest

If your to high you can angel your stick to the right until it’s level then estimate how far you tilted your stick. When you’re running ditches with a good operator all you have to do is angel your stick to show them how deep they have to go
