The wood chipper is a a excellent piece of equipment, and it’s very nice that your family and your cousins family are so close and your helping each other through this awesome journey.
Your awesome man with alot of energy I literally watch your episodes whole day yesterday from the moment you left town and move to this area and build your homestead from down up and the water tank project and clearing for the animal pasture on the hill and the solar panels . I love to hear your advice and wisdom throughout your videos sometimes you almost make me cry lol but your an awesome dad . I wish I had a dad like you.
That’s an asset to the homestead. We used one for erosion control laying chips 6” deep to hold the soil back. People will look at this a day well the road looks clear to me, but they’ve never tried to negotiate those trees while they have been weighted down with a heavy snow load. As always best wishes. Thanks for sharing
Cut a block of wood to match the funnel leading to the blades and mount it on a broom/shovel handle to have a brush pusher. If it is cut right it will stop before the blades letting you clear the thing without risking limbs. If you end up getting goats they will solve the leaf problem for you if you throw the limbs in the goats pen they will quickly eat the leaf and new growth wood for you. This would be where you do the trimming and dump into a trailer behind a truck/tractor and haul back to the goats. NOTE some think pine can cause a miscarriage in pregnant goats so separate them when pregnant for safety.
Great seeing the families working together. I agree and understand wanting attachments that make your life easier or more sustainable for the future. Keep up with the plans. Thanks for sharing.
It’s great to see the young ones getting involved with manual labor. Work ‘em hard and they’ll learn responsibility and the value of a hard earned dollar.
I had to work like a man from the age of being big enough too! I drove a delivery dodge van in the bay area at the age of 13 in the late 60s! All these safety worried people have no clue how the country was built! Great for child development! Nobody got hurt and it was a family job all will remember! I was never in an auto accident either, the more responsibility you give kids the more responsible they will be in life!
I get what you are saying but what about all the millions of children and young adults that were maimed or worse killed because safety wasn't a consideration? Learning young is great and I encourage it, I played and learnt on a local farm and was given 'engineering' projects by my father but was always told what to do, or not, what to wear or not and use PPE, there's just no excuse... ever! My relatives with missing limbs and lost theirs lives are testament to this.
Yeah I don't really think it's exceptionally responsible to promote a lack of safety with children. Just because great great grandpappy joined the army at 12 years old back in 1830 and just barely survived gangrene doesn't exactly mean it's the right thing to do. I personally embrace this informational evolution. Not to trash what you're saying, but the "i did it, therefore i am" thing has to go away if we want to advance as a whole.
I've been doing back to eden gardening. The wood chips with the leaves work so much better. It is great. No rototilling and very little weeding or watering.
Grandma L that's what I was going to suggest as well, especially since they're chipping lots of leaves. I'm sure they never read the comments though so I'm sure the chips will just end up in the walkways.
Wood chips mixed with leaves, especially from the thinner branches, makes a fine base for or addition to a compost pile. Chips also make a good ground cover for a chicken pen or coop. Also, mulch for fruit trees.
Wow.... I was JUST looking at these and wondering how well they work!!! Thx for posting this! I have 4 acres of garbage alder trees I need to get rid of..
If they ever resurface a road via grinding/resurfacing it in your area and you want an awesome surface for your driveway to talk to the company doing the job an might be able to talk them into delivering some. Spread it out, drive over it a little and you'll have an awesome driveway.
In previous video you were trying to start treez from cuttings You probably/maybe already know about Air-layering trees (Growing roots on the tree cutting before taking it from the tree) Lot of videos on utube on how to.. Its a term and practice i just learned of..
Tow Utility trailer behind your chipper with raised sides so that the Chipper blows the chips into the trailer. Chips can be used for goats and chicken Floors.
Great video as always brother. These take me back to my early childhood, and you remind me tons of my family, especially before they started getting older, awesome stuff.
I have a PTO chipper myself, it's one of those equipment you didn't know you need till after you got one. Also I find myself cracking a laugh when I walk by those $5/bag of mulch in the garden center.
One more thing, try not to chip green stuffs, especially pines. They tend to gum up the fly wheel, pain to clean out. I usually let the cutting dry out for a week before I comes back and chip them.
Chipped branches with leaves will go well on your future garden, orchard, etc. the leaves bring valuable Nitrogen along with the Carbon from the leaves
Im glad you have a guy friend to chat with. I suffer with that self doubt thing too and I'm difficult deal with its nice to find a capable person who can talk u down somewhat. 🤗
Them GREEN leaves is a good source of nitrogen. They will be brown in a few days. LEAF THEM :) LOL Quick tip for you and the gang. Use the second piece of trimming to force the FIRST piece down. What you guys were doing is how most get caught up in an INSTANT. GREAT purchase !! will definitely come in handy.
Heath @ Red Poppy Ranch Man, you've got a billionaire's wealth in all that wood! I highly recommend covering your mud-pit road with logs and chips. Build a corduroy road out of that excess hardwood. It'll last for years and improve your road condition. All it will cost you is sweat equity and fuel to run the equipment.
The one thing most people dont think about is the limbs above your head as the machine sucks it in. Any branch that doesnt bend can leave a nasty scrape on the face or eye..
Wood chips are best dry to be used as animal bedding as the animals tend to add moisture to it either it's too close to the water fountain and they spill water on it or they will pee on it. It should make good material to be composted especially after the animals have used it. Take care and GOD BLESS
Had another thought shouldn't you be cutting some firewood for the winter? Finding some dead standing wood will save you the drying time but need to start soon. As this will be the first winter up there you have to guess on how much you will need and any green wood will not have time to dry out so will give less heat.
ok fine !!! even if u´r just a covered i see u in my "bell thingi" the channel southTexasReefing ... even if u delete u´r comment it still shows in my comments ...... and just so u know English is my 4# language..... i apologise for bringin tis here but enough is enough ...
I rented a diesel 6" chipper. It was quite scary. There was a broken safety cable that would stop the part that pulled you into chippers if you can grab it as you're going in, had it worked. Luckily, it also had a bar that reversed the teeth and would kick the branch out if any part of your body hits it as you go in. Saved me a few times. I had rented it for a short duration and was in way more of a hurry than should have been and was feeding almost whole trees that were quite tall. It was easy to get tangled up because I never knew which way it was going to whip once it caught onto the wood.
That was my son's first Muley, I've watched them all, but been a good boy and not been upset. I've been in the hospital with obstructed bowel, no fun, at all. When are you going to get going on the sheetrock and solar panels, fall is around the corner. I thought you were a lot higher than we are but after the vid with the elev. mentioned, there isn't 50' difference. Dad, lived on Mt Olympus at 5330', I'm only slightly less. You are right the monsoons aren't but a couple of weeks from now. Good going, I can sure tell what you like to do and not to do, lol... Mikre
The great things about the wild is it's different from place to place. Just like people are all different. Don't let others change how you want to do your land. God gave us land to be creative and enjoy. You aren't hurting anything. As far as I can see, you are making the land healthier and usuable for animals. We have a pretty big fish aquarium where fish kept dying until we got their little eco system right with plants and all. Keep on trucking and creating your unique masterpiece. I guarentee God is loving that you are outside playing with the land He created.
Nice video, Bestco is a good company, make a lot of attachments. That chipper went through everything without any trouble. Thanks for the link. Any hardwood wood chip is great for all uses. Love the tractor too, nice job. Thanks for sharing.
That seems pretty awkward to use with the funnel so high up. Most wood chippers are fed from the side, with feed wheels. But wood chippers shure are fun to use, and they clean up brush piles so much. Hoping to get one in conjunction with a pellet stove one day.
The DW30 is a drum chipper, which works differently than the typical flywheel/disc chipper. The drum has two blades on the OD whereas the disc type has four blades on the flat face. I've heard that the drum type doesn't get jammed up as easily as the disc type when doing green branches, especially smaller stuff (1/2" and less). I think the drum type is louder, which is a function of physics I suppose.
It would be ok for a little while until it starts to break down then it turns into dirt and will be muddy when it rains. I put some on my driveway thinking it would help with all the mud but as soon as it started to break down the mud was back.
a lot of people don't realize commercially bought mulch is treated with chemicals to prevent this stuff. There are a lot of people in my town that use "chip drop" from local tree services to get free mulch. I suppose it keeps carpenters and pest control people busy... stimulating the economy lol
I love my small chipper we can take it up into a backyard and instead of dragging brush to the street and putting it in the truck we make wood chips in the backyard. my boys have been dragging brush since they were three and they are always wearing their safety helmets and hearing protection and face Shields. I don't want a workman's comp claim. these things are noisy as heck and I go nowhere near mine without face head and hearing protection.
I don't want to be nasty but the lady at 5:05 did exactly what nobody should do : pushing branches in with her hand IN the chopper ! In front of kids !! Exactly what they must learn NOT TO DO !
I have a good possible solution for you to help deal with some of the timber issues you have. You could sell the wood to a company, tell them to come in and cut & haul it themselves, and get paid for it!
Red Poppy Ranch I like watching your videos. Keep it up. I like the way you are doing everything yourself. I know it's hard work, but you're doing it for you and your family. And family is important. Lot of people today don't believe in family. God Bless.
Great learning experience for the young and older alike. Eye and ear protection on everybody should have been a learning point, the kiddos would be more likely to utilize PPE if the adults setting the example did. Glad no one got hurt, but I don't understand why this generation wears bike helmets, but isn't wearing PPE around deadly machinery. Again glad no one was hurt. We never wore PPE when I was a child, and every one of my cousins have "battle scars" tto show for it. Nobody died, but scars and hearing loss along with some eye damage are testimony that protective gear can effect the future generation's well being. I grew up without PPE, and as a result, still don't use it as often as I should. However, I don't have anyone learning from me about job safety. I do wear a face shield when I'm filming a lathe/wood turning video. Good luck getting that road under control for ease of access year round.
Just drop the 3 point for easier access. It's nice and of great benefit to collect those chips in a pile. You will get so much more out of your labor with those your chips if you collect them together. I hear ya....they will be of more value to YOU than what you can probably get currency for. Just my thinking of course.
Wood chips are the best! Are you familliar with no till gardening? Or the "Back To Eden" gardening method? Highly reccomend it! James Prigioni is a master at it check out his channel!
Speaking of a money maker...Do you know you can get more pounds of eatable meat on an annual basis from rabbits (Yes, they do multiply like rabbits) than from a cow!...and if you have a lot of fisherman in the area rabbit droppings below rabbit cages make for an easy resource to raise worms for fishing...and fertilizer for the garden.

Right on Andrew....I would say the some but no use in repeating myself...I mean yourself....I mean ...well you know what i mean. LoL
If you get goats, entirely new fencing will be necessary.

Wood chips are GOLD!!! Awesome machine!
The chips with the leaves are the best for composting and for mulching garden beds.
Safety Sallys always on the job 24/7/365!!! The leaves are green mulch! Part of the process, they add to the decomp! TY
To make money with a wood chipper, you have to calculate
how many wood chips a wood chipper would chip ... 🤣
Oh that was great..seeing everyone working together....fun and fast way to accomplish any task..
Wow.... I was JUST looking at these and wondering how well they work!!! Thx for posting this! I have 4 acres of garbage alder trees I need to get rid of..
you can also use the trees for huglekulture mounds to plant on instead of burning or chipping as well, check out Sepp Holtzer and Paul Weaton
You all did a very good job. All the children and adults were good workers.

When your chipping with that chipper it's easier if you set it on the ground before feeding it.

wood chips are as handy as pockets on a shirt. Unlimited uses.
