My mom is not into sangomas lifestyle and she wouldn’t support any of us if we would be sangoma . She us ok’d and we wouldn’t understand that . We wouldn’t want her to compromise her own beliefs for ours .
African parents will tell you they don't support sangoma lifestyles but they partake in lobola ceremonies and rituals bc there's money in that. iLobola is an ancestral ritual and it's sad that we have parents who have no range or the open-mindedness to support their children. So glad millenials are breaking that old school of thinking ♥️
But it’s not the same. And I think she even said it. She doesn’t understand what it entails and no one took time to teach her the significance of what the sangoma lifestyle is.. (unlike lobola where we grow up being told what it’s about and practicing it till it becomes a part of our culture/tradition you can pass down to the next generation ) therefore- she can’t be a part of it. So it’s not like she doesn’t support it. She doesn’t know what it really is all about and I for one would also not partake in a ritual I don’t understand 🤷🏽♀️ . If they teach her, be patient with her ... you’ll see she will open up even more!
Also understand that some African parents are Christian and lobola is also practiced by Christians. There are even verses that support dowry. As for rituals idk
Culture is a way of living. This includes marriage in a society and raising children. Being a sangoma is necromancy, a chosen spiritual path, not a total definition of how a particular community conducts itself. So people can still marry and raise children without having to speak to the dead. Necromancy is in every society in the world. It's not exclusive to Africa. So people can choose to not include it in their life even though they enjoy the lifestyle of the community/society in which they come from.

Tough being a parent
So true
It’s tough but as a parent to many children, you must know their all different. You must understand them individually.

Thought I'm the only one who viewed lobola in that sense. No wonder marriages fail, people mix traditions without understanding.
