Fear of the Lord, not afraid of Him

When we talk about the fear of the Lord, many may say “Isn’t fear a bad word?” 2 Timothy says: “I have not given you a spirit of fear, but power, love and a sound mind.” So how can the Lord be saying the way to grow is to have a fear of the Lord? Is it not a contradiction? These are all good questions! In this sermon, we explore what it means to fear the Lord but not be afraid of Him. Pastor Kevin covers a vast array of scriptures that show the benefits that come from walking in the fear of the Lord. God is love, and perfect love casts out fear. The fear of God is not synonymous with panic, dread and anxiety. Instead, the fear of the Lord refers to reverential awe and honour. The Proverbs describe the fear of the Lord as ‘the fountain of life.’ May you be encouraged and inspired to ask the Lord for a healthy reverential awe for who He is, and a greater revelation of His love.
