- George Clooney and Michelle Pfeiffer reclaim "One Fine Day" from box office obscurity. This beloved rom-com was way ahead of it's time in gorgeous dinosaur/suit pairings, and also brought together two fantastic actors.
Joining Variety for the Actors on Actors series, presented by Amazon Studios, Clooney who directed and produced “The Midnight Sky" talked at length with "French Exit's" Pfeiffer about being working parents, their new movies and, of course, the 1996 comedy “One Fine Day."

“One Fine Day” was/is a really decent Hollywood romcom. Absolutely loved watching Clooney and Pfeiffer light up the screen with their obvious on screen chemistry. I do hope they do another film in the not too distant future. Great film!

It's fairly evident that George is a true Michelle Pfeiffer fan.
He was in love with her for the longest time lol...in one of his lifetime achievement awards speech he said his only regret was that Michelle Pfeiffer was married when they filmed One Fine Day.

still my favorite rom-com! perfect for any weekend/rainy afternoon. none of the cliche rom-com tropes, just characters with chemistry and busy lives that have to get out of their own way. love to see them together!

This is great. I love Michelle since I first saw her in Into the Night and is my favorite actress ever ❤️❤️ She seems to be a perfectionist about her work and very humble. One Fine Day was great, they have a lot of chemistry and still watch it very often 💯💯

So many great films to choose from but my absolute favourite performance of hers is in Frankie and Johnny. She blows me away in that film.

Rotten Tomatoes is not pointless, professional movie critics & reviewers are. Rotten Tomatoes is just a calculator/search engine type of thing.
@@gabrielp9646 except the way that RT aggregates is seriously flawed. If they looked at 50 reviews for a film that all gave the film a 3 star review, then that film would get a 100% rating, which is very misleading and doesn't reflect what the reviewers actually gave it. So, yeah, pointless!
@@BryanLomax Not true. It may be certified "fresh", but it doesn´t have a 100% rating.
Try metacritics then. They give out real scores rather than a range for fresh or rotten indicators.
Rotten Tomatoes is not pointless.
I'm amazed how actors can remember the tiniest of details.
It must go with the territory bc they have copious amounts of dialogue they have to memorize.
Especially George can remember tiny, tiny details from everything.
I'm not a fan of Clooney, but he does have the gift of gab.
Both of these creatures are aging INCREDIBLY Well.
They can make movies until they're 85 as far as I'm concerned.
Favorite Pfeiffer movie is "Married to the Mob", she was a hoot.

I love all of the films both of these actors have done. They have taught us how to be real, and many lessons. They are iconic and will go on forever. Our grandchildrens children will watch them and learn from them and cherish them as well.

Clooney wants nothing to do with his history as Batman so I wouldn't want to put him in that box for him. More like Danny Ocean and Catwoman.
Man, that run of George movies was great - he's like Robert Redford or something, rarely in a bad film.

Yeah, he's always had a pretty big crush on her. He even started dating this lookalike right after filming One Fine Day. They even had the same haircut lol.
I'd happily watch the sequel to One Fine Day. These new Hollywood pups just can't do rom coms like the seasoned pros. Just doesn't have weight. They're all too pretty, no character. Shouldn't still be relying on the Sandra Bullock and Julia Roberts etc but these young ones haven't got the stuff.
There's a way to pay actors a compliment without putting down other younger, less experienced actors who aren't your favorites. Try it sometime. Working actors will appreciate your courtesy.
Just this year, I found Happiest Season, Palm Springs, and Lovebirds to be delightful rom coms :)

I love One Fine Day and these two are two special actors
THIS was the movie that elevated George Clooney's career. It showed the world that he could stand next to a movie star and not be eclipsed in any way. And thank goodness, because he is actually a brilliant character actor...whose crazy big handsomeness fortunately did not prevent the world from discovering this. His scenes in "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind" made me gasp, just stunned witnessing the depth of his artistry onscreen. Stephen Spielberg once told Clooney, while producing ER, "You can be a movie star if you can just learn to keep your head still," lol.
That's crazy that they haven't seen each other since the premiere.
I mean they are co-star, doing their job respectively. They don't have any responsibility to be lover or BFF outside the screen.

They actually have, they just don't remember. The last time they saw one another was at the 2012 Golden Globes. There was a picture of George greeting her while she was seated, he was so close to her face he could have kissed her.

I remember watching One Fine Day and thinking it’s Batman and Catwoman! It’s a good little movie.
At 20:00 minutes and George mentions often how much $$ the movies made to gauge how successful it was. I know he knows that it's not the case, and Michelle pointed it out, how these movies he names were indeed successful because of the quality of the work. I know it's counterintuitive to think so, but $$$ box office does not equal good but that's how the world works. So lovely to see them both reminisce and ask questions that are so much more interesting stemming from the fact that they've worked together. Thank you Variety

One Fine Day didn't "bomb". It grossed $46 M in the US and $97M worldwide, which is pretty respectable for a romantic comedy.
Ya I just googled the box office and I couldn't find a figure in terms of production costs. 100 million in 1996 was a big hit.
@@maximilian2974 Let’s not oversell. Independence Day came out the same year and made $100 in the US in its first weekend. Twister came out the same year as well and it made $40 million in the US in its first weekend. Obviously those are very different kind of films and expectations should be different, but it was by no means a hit. It was the 35th highest grossing film of the year.

i remember wanting to go watch beavis & butthead and my sister talked me out of it ^^to go and watch one fine day with her and we did and it became my favorite movie of all times!! watched it 4 times in the theatre and still love it to this day. their chemistry was amazing and the whole story line is just a really beautiful romance :)

I don't know if I would call it "personal". It's just one of many jobs.
A movie is just a short term job contract (unless part of a franchise). And so there isn't a guarantee that you'll see the same colleagues again

I had the biggest crush on Pfeiffer when I was a 13yr old boy. Catwoman just hit every button for me. Then I figured out, that while I love Pfeiffer's beauty, it's actually powerful women that I'm really into to.

This is one of those romantic comedies that should be as popular as sleepless in Seattle or when Harry Met Sally, even the child actors are great. Michelle Pfeiffer is a goddess walking among us and George is irresistibly charming. I don’t understand how a movie like while you were sleeping becomes a huge hit and then one fine day doesnt.

WTF, One Fine Day opened to about 6 million, yes that's bad, but apparently "it had legs" and there was good word of mouth since it managed to gross almost 100 million worldwide, not bad for a non-Julia Roberts romantic comedy in the 90s.
I got so impressed with this movie. Love you all ❤️. Wising one day I can see you on the movie again.
