- A security guard was stabbed and an alleged trespasser shot dead at a Metro station in Hollywood on Tuesday morning, the latest violent incident in a wave of safety problems for public transit in Los Angeles.

Why do they make it so confusing? The suspect was the one who got shot. They made it sound like two separate incidents.
"We're learning how the stabbing and shooting are connected." They really stretched this one as far as it could go. Agenda is obvious commute fear mongering.

We need universal background checks, waiting periods and common sense knife laws to prevent knife violence.
Sounds like the guard was stabbed and the stabber was killed for his troubles.
I drove for Metro-Transit for 23 years. Nothing has change. Upper management won't deal with it unless they're forced to.

@jhljhl6964 (is 6964 your badge #) I drove for RTD from 1980 to 1989 div 2 and 5 then went into the transit police1990 , and like you said nothing has changed, I remember in my hiring interview they ask me what would i do if a passenger hit or spit on me, I ask them "do you want the RTD answer or the real answer" i told them i would beat the crap out of them and sue you as well for not backing me up if you disciplined me for the incident. I still got hired. and in those years i drove, pure hell at time and the company did not protect the drivers, i never had to defend myself but came close a few times,
I'm staying in my personal vehicle. No way will I ride.

Two people were stabbed on El Paso TX transit buses this past week. Forget riding the bus, for what, to get stabbed?

@buzz5969 - This is California. Most of us who arm ourselves take a huge risk since concealed carry permits are damn near impossible to get, and open carry was banned over a decade ago.

@captain99p39 There's a large push to get public transit safety beefed up before the '28 Olympics. Part of that is full body scanners at every entrance. Everyone's supposed to ride unarmed.

I rode the bus in LA and it was just abysmal. If you aren’t from there just don’t do it.

Force them to go to work and contribute, or locked in the asylums since they can't work. I'd have my taxes go towards that then useless programs. There are millions at the southern border right now that are willing to work and pay taxes, get them in, and keep the uncontributing able-bodied out.
@ 1990758: No money? Cops need to hand the person a plastic grocery bag (yes, I said that) and tell them when they've filled it with trash, used needles and any other unsightly garbage around - THEN they can ride (but only on good behavior at all time while on the Metro properties.)

I think it's, at the very least, a cheap and temporary stop gap ... while someone comes up with another idea.

I emailed Metro saying this exact thing. They huddle in groups and don’t take their job seriously. Smh I’ve seen 5 LAPD officers standing around together, not doing a thing but chatting. They think their presence is enough when clearly it’s not.

Depends in "security" were Transit employees and their Union. or sub-contracted. In Canada our Transit in BC is their own police department.

I go to that Wendy's all the time. I kept telling people I knew on the street not to mess around with these bus drivers & security guards. They're trying to do their jobs and make it home safely. I guess some are finding out the hard way. This includes Scientology Security Guards also. Yall may not care for their organization, but they're just trying to do their jobs as well. I remember riding the #4 once and the bus driver stopped the bus to physically handle a rude passanger that was sitting next to me in the back of the bus threatening him. That passenger ended up being all talk running away from the driver scared.
