  • In this episode you get a run down of Graeme and Mike's favourite fishing lures in the famous Tackle Shack. Graeme's followers have always appreciated his way of telling it as it is, and if it's tough fishing, you can believe it is..We all have to put up with the same conditions. Plus he tries his hand on a hot South coast Flounder mark that turns ice cold on him, and finally he chose the wrong day to head to Selsey Bill after a storm, but saved the day with an epic cookup! It's still a Totally Awesome, so sit back and enjoy.

    What I really admire about this channel is the length of the films. I hate it when you wait all week for a video and its only 10 minutes long. Keep it up 👍

    Hows it going. I dont normally comment on UA-cam vids but I've got to say, ive been watching your channel now for a 18months or so now. I love the diversity you have and how theres a bit of something for everyone.
    My self I live in the lake district up here in sunny Cumbria and have a small boat that i fish on out of Maryport Marina and I've taken alot of what I've learnt from you and applied to my fishing trips out and I've seen great results.
    So just wanted to say tight lines, please keep em coming and if you ever find your self up on the Solway Firth/ Irish sea keep an eye open for the looney trying anything to get a bite.

    Red is actually the first colour to go in water (all underwater photography has to be balanced for lack of red). It would mean your red lures look and work like the black. Notice that lots of lures have red, maybe they all work as silhouette?

  • @markrichardhall9089
    @markrichardhall9089 4 роки тому

    You probably have forgotten more than I will ever know about fishing but I have to correct you on lure colours disappearing in the water column/spectrum. Red is the first colour to disappear, blue/white is the very last. That’s why blue/white works so well in deep water and is always to go to colour for commercial fishermen. Fish also do not see what we see and it depends on how many cones they have in the eyes (predatory fish always have more so see more). For fish, colours generally become shades of grey (insert your own joke here). Much respect to your channel, it’s fantastic. Tight lines.

    • @thomassmith8701
      @thomassmith8701 4 роки тому

      Mark Richard Hall absolutely correct but a couple of things to add. Fish, as you say, don’t have fantastic colour vision but predatory fish see contrast very well. Often what they see is the silhouette of the lure contrasted against either the lighter colour of the bottom or the daylight filtering down from above, so sometimes particularly on a light bottom or in clear water or a very sunny day dark lures work well as they provide a strong contrast.
      However, in our generally murky waters you’re right in that white or light colours tend to contrast well and do well.
      Similarly, lures with two strongly contrasting colours can appear very visible and attractive, hence why the “rhubarb and custard” variation on colour works.
      Often overlooked is the vibrations the lure gives off. Vibration and motion is much more detected by (particularly predatory) fish and in cloudy water they often use these senses plus smell to hunt with. On very deep (50m plus) wrecks in the U.K. the light levels are very low and so often fish are actually homing in on the vibrations and disturbances caused by the lure.
      In summary, contrast is more important than colour and features which make the lures vibrate and flutter are all good!!

      @@TAFishing well it's been up to 40-50mph this week and the gusts are merely 20mph this weekend so I guess that counts as a break 😂

    Do any of the fishermen use circle hooks there? I do not ever remember you using one. Over here in the USA they are becoming very popular

      Steve Welches they aren’t as common, probably because people tend to use more worm baits and they aren’t great for presenting them well. Circle hooks work well with cut baits and I’ve seen them used as pennel hooks but I’m not massively convinced that they make much difference to using a standard J hook with the point offset to your hookup rates or deep hooking rates.

    Hey Graham good day
    Great videos I've been watching them for a couple years now.
    I've been building I've been building my own rods for a couple of winters now
    I noticed a couple of your rods have what we call plate reel seats on them. Can you highlight them in one of your videos. I'd be interested in how they are attached and your opinion of them overall
    Thanks.

      I either tape them on ,or whip them,or whipping with tape over. Had them years but I guess they are wearing a bit.Occasional reel seat movement when retrieving but nothing to make me want to change them.

      @@TAFishing thanks. Many here USA don't like them. They feel that they don't hold as well.
      I haven't had a problem yet though.
      And it's easy to build a Rod around.
      Steve

    Sorry Mike, your sister and dad stole that one on the intro, man what an intro and great tune. Should have been a rockstar Pullen, with Wayne as drummer!

      Wife got it in her charity shop,but I had another for £5 from one of the cheap retail outlets and that was better fitting round the back of the neck. Kept the wind out.

    Red is the first colour to go. It’s gone after about 5foot.

    I've wondered for a while Graeme, what is your restriction in the UK for number of rods/hooks per angler - I notice you always deploy 4 or 5 at a time. In South Australia, there is currently no fishing licence required and the limit is 2 rods and 3 hooks per rod per angler. Love the intro - it is clear to me that as you become' more senior', the more you are losing the plot!

      Use what you like with rods/hooks over here to my knowledge ,and at present no sea fishing license. My opinion is the money from any sea fishing license would only be squandered on some committee or whacko scheme,so the longer we have no license the better. Just go fishing and enjoy the freedom(at present)
