I saw them at Beach Life Festival, it was such an enchanting experience, with every note I felt the build up. I was really shaken by the greatness this was live. Truly an honor to say I saw them live, and felt the energy of a true fan.
This song was first released almost 30 years ago, and in my mind, it REMAINS probably the most intense 3 minutes in Rock history ever composed and executed. Pure, raw, magical EMOTION.
Wow what a video for this song. I was hooked to this band with mountain song. I must have seen them live about 6 times in the late 80s and early 90s. I miss those days so much watching a band and passing around a joint to people who you don’t even know. Watching these old videos somewhat transports me back to those memories.

They played this live opening for smashing pumpkins last year in Tampa and I just sat down maybe not even 15 mins and the edibles just started to kick in when they opened with this song and just looped the intro for what felt like eternity. The power this song had live was unbelievable. I wasn’t even there for janes addiction. But I always liked them. But after that I really said whoa and had a whole new appreciation. It was ocean size. The Beauty of this Video is when the Camera zooms out and you realize the surfer is riding a monster wave. Up until that moment, it just looked like another big wave. Not a skyscraper of millions of gallons of water.
I loved - and I mean *loved* - Ritual when I first got into it, several years after the band broke up, but Nothing's Shocking didn't really move me the same way. I recently started listening to it again, on a whim, and it's brilliant. This was *years* before the grunge scene, when rock was basically all hair metal, and the rest of the radio was R&B. It's fun to go back and look at the Billboard top 40 lists from 88 and realize how incredibly *weird* this music is compared to everything else. I don't know anything that sounds remotely like this, especially not from that era.
