- Not every day of pest smacking goes the same. Sometimes, the starlings make an ass out of you. :) But, there are many months before it is time to migrate south - plenty of time for me to even the score.

Thanks for the great videos Ted. All of us hunters appreciate your ethical approach to pest control and your efforts to explain reasons for hunting, despite irrational youtubers and negative people. Keep the videos coming!
dude, you should find a falconer in your area. He would LOVE to feed all the starlings you shoot to his birds
I have seen all of your videos at least twice but this one somehow went undetected until now! Thanks "what to watch".
It's amazing you posted this. I was outside the other day working on the car when I looked over to the neighbors house and noticed a Starling inside his basement trapped between the window and curtain. I immediately recalled the information you shared regarding their behavior and desires to get into other birds' nests. I believe the bird was trying to invade a sparrow nest (which I think is in an uncovered exhaust pipe) when he slipped through and got himself stuck. Thats for the videos
I love how right as you mention 'permission's' and our UK brothers, you pull out a set of shooting sticks. "Brilliant." (British accent) lol great video, crafty bird.
Starlings are non native invasives that are more aggressive than our native birds and out compete for nesting sites and food. What he does is pest control and very benificial.
That was one smart bird for sure ! I live in Michigan and have just started air rifle shooting since I was 10 years old so after 40 years my wife bought me a Hatsan 1000S Striker Vortex in 22 caliber and am looking forward to alot of fun . Thanks for the great videos and may you have a great new year ahead .
Lol. I like that you showed the one that got away. Just goes to show even when you dont get a shot, it can still be a fun and memorable day. Thanks for sharing.
Every once in awhile you have to let a worthy adversary go
All physical things man, bird or country, are but paper masks. Unrecognizable in any sort long lasting comic way meaningless and without reason. But in each event - in the living act, the undeniable deed - there, some unknown but still reasoning thing lets a glimpse of it's features from behind the unreasoning mask. If man can strike, strike through the mask! How can a prisoner reach the outside except by thrusting through the wall? Sometimes I think there maybe nothing beyond the wall. But it is enough.
To me, the white whale is that wall, shoved near to me. He tasks me; he heaps me; I see in him outrageous strength, with an unknowable malice sinewing through it. That unknowable thing is chiefly what I hate; and be the white whale a instrument, or be the white whale the principal, I will wreak that hate upon him. Talk not to me of blasphemy, man; I’d strike the sun if it insulted me.
lastEvergreen what.

"Back to the issue of starling smashing" LOL
Brilliant Ted this video is a great example of why you are the best Air Rifle guy on UA-cam

Just last week we had a Starling fly in through my daughter bedroom window. I had taken the screen off to clean it, while downstairs I saw a flying shadow cast on the wall followed by my daughters high pitched scream. The Starling flies down straight into the screen on the patio door. I quickly shut the glass door trapping him in and rushed to get my gardening gloves. Well, I caught him, snapped his picture and reluctantly let him go. Why? Because my little girl asked me to. :) Great video!
I could listen to these videos all day for the commentary. Love these vids
Starlings are native to Europe but not to the US. They are an invasive pest species and out-compete the native song birds, so he is actually doing good by targeting them.
Great video again as usual! Can't wait for the next. 2 thumbs up for all your hard work and fantastic footage and editing!
Ted I have fished off-shore in the Gulf for years. I've not only seen the H-birds on the rigs along with lots of other birds that you wouldn't think would be there but have had them land on the boat and rest for hours as we are trolling for pelagics.
You prove that if you follow where your interest leads it frequently leads to all sorts of new and interesting things. i.e. hummingbirds. Great video.
Cool, out of MANY slomo vids out there, yours till now are the STEADIEST after- break.
Been a fan for five years,
you always put out great content man.
Keep the videos coming...I enjoy watching them and your story behind them!!! I like the shots at birdhouses...see if you can get more of those in this Spring.
your videos always make my day better no matter what so thanks it means a lot that you post these :D
Found your videos my mistake and really enjoyed watching them. Thanks for the effort.
Ziyaad from South Africa
those starlings are quite the crafty buggers, their problem solving skills are just insane, well at least for that one bird. I was very amused when you kicked down that small ramp, probably expecting that bird and then theres that little hole. I really hope you can get that damn bird dude xD
serious friend so kind to put subtitles to your videos, your videos are great and you got so many Latino fans would be nice to put subtitles
@Gracepots I live in the US, Pennsylvania to be exact and I remember going camping up on the mountain and we had a feeder on the front of our camper infront of a window and we filled it with sugar water that was dyed red and so many hummingbirds would come to it.. Such amazing bjrds
Another nice video. I did not see many starlings in Greece this winter. We call them Psarounia to Sparta. Starlings can even imitate mobile phone ringtones!
I read that humming birds will hitch a ride on the backs of ducks and geese, burrowing into the feathers.
That bird is the boss! Totally owned you lol
i am watching this footage for the 2 nd time and i see the summer plumage of the starling and it is very nice indeed the yellow beak and the black plumage are very nice ,i am from Malta Europe and the starling here is a migratory bird and it comes only in winter at the early signs of spring it goes up north to main land Europe. So i know they are pests and how much you hate them Ted but it is kind of cool how that bird is swearing at you or something like that.
Kind regards Joseph from Malta
Hi Ted love what you do. Starlings are all over our farm here in Canada. I have shot more than a few thousand with my fx Royal. Love my .25
All the best
Gio
Great video. Loved how clever that starling was. A small part of me was even rooting for it...I mean that kind of clever you hope works out a little. Good luck getting him some other day.
As a Greek I can tell you that rabbit is one of my favourite game food.My mom made the best rabbit stew ever.Great video mate.
This is more Fun and more Informative than the Discovery channel...Great video.
Ted, Excellent all around video and commentary; entertaining, honest, can't wait for your next video! B-)
nice new video. I've been waiting on a new hunting video for a while but it was worth the wait. Ready for the next one already
I never thought the house sparrow to be a non native species here in the US. I've seen these birds all the time during the warmer months here in Maine, thinking these birds are just commonplace where I live. Nice shooting, btw. I hope you finally get to dispatch that starling that's been eluding you.
For indoor work, my weapon of choice is the tennis racket, at night preferably, I finally bought
a video camera it mounts on top of the scope, hope to upload some stuff later, should be an
interesting summer.....
Thanks Ted
I'd love to see a humming bird one day in the flesh, we don't have them here in Australia.
Keep up the good work mate
Those birds are very smart! I had a problem with them tearing up my eve on my house! They would hop down the stairs on the other side of my driveway and look in the kitchen to see if I was watching!( through the glass) Well to their surprise I took the glass out one day! That's when the old Daisy model 99 went to work!! :-D
Great video, Ted! You might want to keep a roll of duct tape handy to plug up those escape routes if you run into the same scenario in the future.
I really love your videos. I live in Thailand (from Texas). I can't get pellet or BB rifles here, but your vids remind me of when I was i kid. Keep on making videos!
I dont get what people have against pest control these birds dont belong here and are kicking native birds out of there homes and need to be removed
death
Thanks for the information! :D
That last view through the hole, was that bird lime?
Excellent video yet again Ted... Keep it up!!
Looking forward to a new season of your vids!
I freaking HATE starlings. They nest in the walls of the mechanic shop I work in every spring. I always make sure to find the hole they parents use and block one if not both of them inside, then proceed to gas them to death. Sometimes I spray poison, sometimes I spray freon gas in and freeze them, and sometimes I just leave them in there to starve. I'm currently saving up for an air rifle so I can shoot the damn things. My thought process is that you can kill more of them in the nest than singly
Come on Ted. That’s one smart bird. His name is Moriarity. LOL
An epic battle between sworn enemies....hahah good job Ted great vid.
I remember on a windy day that a baby starling (it must have been) was being blown around in the wind. As I got upset that it died and that it was buried in my backyard, but now that I realise what type of threat these guys are, I am glad that one died, and that I appreciate the work you do. It helps the environment!
you the best hunter I seen on UA-cam
I like your respect for the animals even though you are trying to kill them. Keep these videos coming. I watch them at work during breaks with my brother. We need the entertainment.
Fun part is: I actually AM in college studying Internet Systems.
Love your videos Ted! Unfortunately Brazil has stupidly strict laws that protect every kind of pests. I live in the city and we have a huge pidgeon population messing everything, but we can't do anything and the mayor won't do anything either...
Great video! We have had warm weather down hear in ohio too and the starlings are already nesting around my place.
The bird reminded me of a xenomorph from alien series.
Smart, quick, and they can solve complex puzzles and give you a tough time.
Always a pleasure watching these videos from you Ted. You strike me as a very sympathetic person, and if you ever happent to drop by Denmark, I'd take you out for a beer. But leave the gun at home :)
Great observations there! Birds are very crafty creatures and you probably know this better than anyone but its so easy to anthropomorphize them because of such behavior.
What most people don't realize is that animals can get feelings such as pain and fear but they derive no meaning from it. This is because they lack most self awareness and don't have a theory of mind. A bird can fear for its life when its about to die and certainly exhibit behavior but has no comprehension of death like we do.
A 300 fps airsoft gun with 20 g bb;s is great for indoor hunting.
Great vid as always Ted.
Your videos are so entertaining! You need your own TV show. I would've never thought I'd look forward to videos of a guy shooting small birds with bb gun...but I do!
Haha the shovel scenario was hilarious!
The hummingbirds I've seen tend to like colder weather. I've seen some in the winter in northern California when it was 45 degrees outside.
brilliant video, loved every second of it like in your other videos! Well done Ted, greetings from germany
Dude,,, you're awesome!!! I love blasting the Hell outa these starlings by my house. I saw a couple sparrows make a nest in the street light out front of my house, and after about a week,,, the starlings muscled them out and took over. I started taking matters into my own hands. Then I saw your videos and felt good that I'm not alone about the way I feel about these birds. Just wanted to say,,, u got some awesome videos!!! Keep commin with em!
6:34 I laughed so hard! Kudos man for having a good sense of humor at defeat.
Huh this little birdie went inside
*TIME TO GET MI SPADE*
I actually love watching your videos! Thanks for the amazing content!
fantastic channel! keep it up! i really love your vids, expecially the "kill cam" in slow motion :P
and very nice commentary! i learned a lot of things about starlings and pigeons here! ignore the haters, good job from italy!
A *ted* talk worth watching.
If you watch previous videos, he talks about why he kills starlings.
Pretty much they're pests and they bully other birds etc etc. So I'm guessing he doesn't feel much guilt when he kicks a bully down.
once again nice video and thanks for taking the time for making it:)
Nice video one again.
I know that birds can be incredible smart, because i have a Jackdaw as pet since last summer. He was fallen out the nest and has been in my presence ever since. He listen to the name Kaka and he even knows when my name is called and he follows me almost every were, even to school or the mall he'll be waiting for me !
Awesome animals :-)
you actually battled him! the fact that you can't take your shot through the tin barn evens out your nice rifle
you no what you reminded of .. every time I hear or see a magpie I swear there larfing at me like .. ha haven't got ya gun haha
jack clarke ikr. Crows does that to me
It is one with the Matrix. Time to call it Keanu and go home. I must admit that this video was one of your more amusing. Good narrative. Good video.
exactly. starlings and cowbirds are overwhelming the native bird population in the us.
This weather was awesome in wisconsin i was hopin it would stay the same temp throughout turkey season
About humming birds i see alot in my backyard and im in southern california. not sure if its normal but i like their presence as they arent people shy like most other birds in a city enviroment.
Haha every good story has a hero and nemesis :)
Looking forward to the next video!
he did a video on using the mil dot sight a while ago and it is really good
I was really hoping you were gonna get him with that shovel
Thanks for making all these videos, They really inspire my self and my two friends to keep up the shooting. From watching your videos relentlessly (hahaha) i reckon its helped us a lot over the passed year to increase our shooting skills. I would also love to tell you that since watching you hit that pigeon in mid flight, i have taken some no scopes at pigeons on my farm (with open fields behind) and i managed to hit one and it fell to the ground like a stone, Thanks a lot Ted, Maxwell Steele
Love your videos, I think I have watched them all, great job!!!!! All my cop friends and I love your long distance shots, but stop stealing your sisters sunglasses :)
Nice clip that Ted and great story well illustrated by yourself.
Si.
After all you saw that bird do to stay alive, it would be just plain good sportsmanship to let him on his way. Cheers
It's proper warm in the UK too. I was working outside with my shirt off on friday :D
You're back! Yaaaaaaaaaaay!
I'm going to get a pellet gun, but which one of these pellet guns is better suited for me? The Big Cat 1250 has 1250 fps but is only a .177 cal, while the Big Cat .22 has .22 cal., but only has 950 fps. I will be using this gun for pest control (mostly pigeons) and small game (mostly squirrels) hunting. They both have their pros and cons so, which gun has more power and is overall better. Thank you for your answer.
-Jakob
P.S. I love your videos!
Hey really enjoyed the video, but I have to say that starling worked really hard to find a way out, I'm glad he lived to fight another day :o)
Quite interesting. As much as I like your videos and that you - along with a few other youtubers that hunt with air rifles - have gotten me into pest control....I'm glad this one got away! To think that a pea brained bird kind of...outsmarted a human with a $1500 specialized weapon.... makes pest control more interesting no?
This is cool, starling are not ducking the pellets, its just something they do. Im a avid bow hunter, and starlings are a favorite of mine to chase. I also hunt big game and deer do the same thing, its called "jumping the string." You can check out alot of footage of deer doing it online. Its really a pain, I had a deer do it once and my arrow went into its back, yet missed the spine. Ended up just being a flesh would but I was not able to kill the deer.
i use to live there to
love your videos
Man those birds are pretty sneaky and clever.
He's back!!
The bird in the house was about to cry
They have the same map for purple martins. Pretty cool!!!
Legal reasons, safety reasons, personal choices, and application. Remember, he's doing pest control with this gun. While a PCP is going to be loud, an AR is going to be much louder, have FAR more energy than is needed, and pass through ANYTHING he's shooting at. Mild Steel siding won't stop a .223 slug, but it will stop a lead pellet just fine. Also, a .223 will go a hell of a lot further than his pellet gun can sling it's load.
I just thought of this, you were worried about over penetration and damaging things behind the pest right? Are there any hollow point/expanding pellets in calibers above .177?
Awesome vid and a great story!! You are a cool guy!
Thanks man now I can get rid of the starlings more effectively
Nice Vid ed, the battle may be lost but the War isnt over yet m8..... Thanks for sharing, Graham.
I have alot of subscpritions but you are the one i really look forward to
hey ted i have a question for you, so when u have a mildot scope set at 10x power and the scope is sighted in at 20 yards. So if i got a pigeon at 30 yards does that mean i need a one dot hold over then so on for 40 and 50? thanks
