This steam issue was brought up a couple months back on reddit when a high level uim account was was hacked, as far as i can remember jagex never replied.
First time I've actually paused a video to check out the ad and actually bought something! That liquid case looks bloody amazing

It's actually crazy that you can just bypass all of those security checks through steam...
use 2FA and PC verification on Steam, can't get hacked
@@derous This is so misinformed. If you never even use Steam, someone else can link the account to Steam and bypass checks.

@@nolchannel4950 You're misinformed yourself. You still need login details to log into the RS account to link it to steam, let alone jagex's 2FA if it's enabled
Nah, it makes sense and has been in the game ever since you could log in with Facebook or Google. No point in entering 2FA on _two_ accounts.

FYI steam does allow you to enable a mobile authenticator for Steam, but that's super good to know steam bypasses the OSRS login authenticator.

unfortunate you got hacked but you get new series out of it. Ofcourse wish it never happened but these are situations that need be fixed and such. So better just make steam secured with authenticator aswell which i have so access to my steam is rough.

Damn scammers suck man. Make sure you get 2fa on steam, the steam guard is actually really good, and being a counter strike player and trader, it keeps ya account locked up. Gl on the rebuild man

Literally Un-Linked my steam account the moment you mentioned this. Holy shit man, I feel so bad for you but at least you still have the account. My main when I was a teenager got hacked then used as a bot and banned :( Thank god I sort of learned that early
nah you just need to make sure you have 2FA enabled on steam. it’s very good. if you don’t and then get hacked, well that’s on you

Presumably we all have the client downloaded so what's the point of logging in with steam?

@@username-du2er I'm not joking when I say this. I have no idea what login spam is, like they have access to your account and keep logging in?
@@jazionpurnsky1185 someone malicious only needs your login username (no need for the password) and they can spam login attempts. it shows a message after a while "too many login attempts" or similar, effectively locking you out of your account until the spam stops.
the youtuber eliop14 is dealing with this right now. he has a legacy account, aka his login username is his in-game name. he contacted jagex and apparently jagex cant do anything about it. steam bypassing the login means he can only play on the steam client
It happened to me too. Exact same way about the same time.
I don’t wanna go back to RuneScape is years of work can just go down the drain in seconds because of their weak security.

Props for suggesting people secure their Steam account (which can easily be a lot more valuable than a RuneScape account) rather than just saying "unlink your Steam account" or "Jagex should remove this feature!" The instant login with no 2FA is super useful and also applies to most other accounts you can link to your RuneScape account, anyway; luckily, those all offer their own 2FA solutions.

Dude that same thing happened to me and I immediately went to unlink my steam account after finding out it bypasses the 2fa. I’m sorry to hear it but I’m glad you’re able to recover from this

I recently logged into my Iron which has 2 step verification along with the email too. Someone requested pin removal which was very awkward. I had a bank pin nd usually deposit everything after each session. Idk how they bypass the Authenticator at all. I don’t play through steam.

This isn't entirely Jagex's fault. If you have 2fa on both OSRS and Steam, this can't happen. IDK if this is possible through the steam developer API, but perhaps Jagex could've detected whether a user was using the steam 2fa and adjusted accordingly.

thank you for the steam tip, some1 recently start spam logging me so i cant login my account, which made me use steam client. if that was their intentions to hack me i wouldve been ded
I got hacked as well but I was lucky enough to intercept the entire ordeal because I was getting live notifs from my emails. For once, I'm glad my screen got cluttered with "there has been an attempt". Scary tbh but to everyone who has a fear of getting hacked, look over your old emails and delete sensitive information including logins to websites or family/business related emails.
Out of curiosity, do you have a steam authenticator too? If so I am definitely uninstalling steam RS 😅

You have to link it. The first time you link it prompts for auth but doesn't prompt again
