We all know the song Auld Lang Syne, but do you know what it means? Auld Lang Syne roughly translates from Lowland Scottish to ‘old times since’, or in other words, the good old days. This is fitting, because Lowland Scottish, a completely different language from Scottish Gaelic, has been obsolete since the 18th-century, other than being preserved in this classic song.
The phrase itself has been around since the 16th-century, or perhaps even earlier since it was an oral tradition passed down until Robert Burns wrote a poem in 1788, which would later become the song we still sing every time one year turns to the next.
To show off the many talents of teachers on Lessonface, we put out a call for teachers to record themselves playing Auld Lang Syne in the key of F at 105 bpm. Beyond that, their performance and part was entirely up to them - and we were thrilled to see such a wonderful and creative variety of performances for the teachers who participated.
Here is the Lessonface rendition of Auld Lang Syne, performed by our brilliant teachers from all over the globe. Since we know it will inspire you, we’ve created free, downloadable sheet music with classic voice, piano, and guitar chords together, plus a special guitar version for TAB and classical notation access as well.
