Hello Josef! Is it really that long since you played at Headingley? You might find the congregation a little larger nowadays. I was in the choir when you played (I still am - in fact I'm now choirmaster) and we still have difficulty finding an organist sometimes, so if you're ever in Leeds on a Sunday morning do drop in - you will always be welcome.
Hi Richard, Yes, it has been a long time. I am down south now, near Cambridge. Hope you are well. Greetings to all at Headingly. Sorry to hear it has been hard to find an organist. It might be nice to get some music students in from the university sometimes and have a small trio/band, rather than having an organist. Glad to hear the congregation has expanded. Hope this continues. All the best.
@mattbraden : hmmm,....show me what you mean then. Secondly, if you check the location, this is in England. A long time ago I was invited to go to an exhibition of the American Guild by a member when he came to my island (btw I'm from the Caribbean) to have a concert. The guy never answered my emails, nor did he ever try to contact me. So I guess the American Guild isnt ALL THAT!
@PrezidentHughes Either way as methodists we do know the hymn and i think you have played very well in line with the congregation, dont worrie but the organ critics....
Well, if you can see from the video, the congregation is a bit far away. Also the congregation is VERY small. So being that they were that far away, my camera couldn't pick their voices much. Well, i'm a student, so i'm in uni all week. No time to practice really. Also I am still yet to receive formal lessons on the organ. So i guess, if i am able to find a convenient and affordable tutor, i should sound better.
@mattbraden : Thirdly, I have NEVER had organ lessons. But since I'm now in England @ uni, i've been trying to get. But the place I checked doesnt have an electronic organ I can practice with, & I dont have connections to use who ever's organ when I want. All I've learnt so far I've done on my own. Fourthly, THOSE ARE Organmaster Shoes. Bought them online for about $70 about a year ago. So lacking proper taught technique, and not really having my own instrument,...its difficult. UNDERSTAND NOW?
Good that you have the organmaster shoes, I'm always out off when I see organ videos with people playing in socks, or worse yet- bare feet, it's the worst thing for the feet too, in socks you slip and slide and it "works" the muscles of the feet in a way that soon causes pain because there's no support. I try to tell people all that in other videos and they give me the "F" you attitude and rant on about "you organist types and your shoes!!!" I only had one year with a church organist, but for those wanting organ lessons the place to start is with approaching an organist at a nearby church, many DO teach and the organist is the one who controls the organ at the church. I've very often just called an organist up and asked if I could try their organ, that I was taking lessons etc and my teacher suggested trying other organs as well. I never had one say no.
bAD MOVE NOT EVEN ATTEMPTING THE PEDAL LINE ONE VERSE, tHAT GIVES THE IMPRESSION YOU DON'T KNOW THE HYMN!!! I encourage you to take an American guild of Organists service playing exam, and get some organmaster shoes, Propper organ shoes like those will also cut down on your mistakes!!
I miss church now that I can't go to it!
We use sing this hymn after every communion .....
Well done you play so well.....
Great Josef! Its been a while since I have heard that hymn :)
