I've had a 19 year friend that lost their licence 7 months after they passed the test by running the red light and speeding (both 3 points each). That's why i drive carefully and after 2 months of passing my test, i've nvever broken any laws or had any points on my licence

Passed my driving test with no lessons from instructor with 1 minor foult very easy test in the UK guys don't be scared it's not that bad

You are not the only one, many people are having to put learning to drive on hold due to the backlogs.

Wow I passed my test but because I’ve moved out of my mums house I gotta wait and send out all these bs forms
I'm so upset at myself because I stupidly didn't let them take my provisional licence. I wasnt staying at the address my licence said which I told them not thinking much of. But at the end when I passed they said I had to change my address and do it myself. Because I was excited about passing I didn't think much about it till I hot home. Now I feel like crying because it's all too complex and I don't know what to do. I can't get insured on a car or drive till I get it done but I don't know what to do.
You can legally drive from the moment you pass your test, you don't need to wait until you receive the physical full driving licence.
In order to get your full licence go into the post office and ask them, they should be able to advise you.

yes you can
You mentioned that when apply the license with D1 form, shall we send the proof of ID with the provisional driving license. I was told by instructor no need for the proof of ID since the provisional license already a proof of ID. Could you confirm this. Thanks
if you are applying via the D1 form then typically something has changed since you applied for your provisional, such as change of name or address, so would need ID for this change.
If you look on the gov.uk website it does specific say to bring ID, it does not specify what ID, so I would just bring everything just in case, the post office will then decide what they need.

hello i’ve lost my provisional license and i have a test in a week. if i don’t have my provisional can i still take the test. i was told the examiner can look at my provisional license detail online by the gov website
You need the physical licence.
Whilst it is possible to check your provisional entitlement online, this is NOT acceptable for the test, reason being your licence has your photo and signature on it, they need to check these things. You also need to physical licence so you can hand that over to the examiner following a pass.
Hello, Ive got my test soon and on my provisional licence I’ve got my middle name on it and if I was to pass could I take my provisional home with me and apply myself as I don’t want my middle name on my actual driving licence.
I am not sure if you can remove you middle name from your licence, as it is part of your legal name.

I have my first test a week Tuesday (6/7/21) in Burgess Hill
I've been waiting for a long long time, so I really hope I pass 1st time and don't have to wait another 6 months or whatever the wait is now! Do you think they will ever get through the back log or do you think this is just how it will be from now on?
Any tips for the nerves? As this has now built up to a huge task in my head...

The backlog will eventually go and things will go back to 'normal', i.e. about a more reasonable 6 week wait for a test. But it will probably take at least a year for things to get like that again.

@@maggiepp7997 hi, I was unsuccessful unfortunately, the weather conditions were very poor on the morning of my test, and that compiled with the pressure and nerves of the test itself really had me overthinking everything, even to the point I was thinking about my gear changes (which I don't normally do) but I failed on 3 things, awareness and planning for going through a deep puddle rather than around it, and also for control steering where I got too close to the curb and observations junctions for pulling out on a blind junction when I thought it was clear and unfortunately there was a van coming around the corner.
I've got another one booked for December but I've got a cancellation app so hopefully I find a cancellation.

Yes, you don't need to have received your license before you can get insurance. You can get your insurance sorted and the drive as soon as you have passed, just take your pass certificate (or a copy) with you when you drive, just incase you get stopped by the police.

I passed recently I had my instructor drive me to work as you mentioned after a driving test you are too emotional either you are the happiest you've ever been or the depressed you've ever been I failed 13 times before passing on my 14th attempt

Do you have to pay extra for applying with a D1 form? If I just wanted to change the ID picture on my license would I have to apply via D1 form?
There is no extra charge for applying via D1 form, however sometimes the post office charge for verifying your ID, but I am not 100% sure if they will charge you in these circumstances, but my gut would say no charge for post office either.
Again not sure about the photo, sorry, but my gut would say, yes you can charge the photo via the D1 form.
The best thing to do is go to the post office and ask them, or e-mail them

No you don't have to pay.
No you do not need to send a photo (unless you want to update it), the DVLA already have your photo.

@@UKDrivingTest the only thing I was worried about was I put my passport style photo only changing my adress but no fee and to change your photo you need a fee. Thanks for the help anyway mate
although I wish the DVLA made it more clear about the process. Just hope it doesn't take over 5 months like a few people. They should be working at normal capacity now as there are no more restrictions

You are a full licence holder the moment the examiner says "I am pleased to tell you that you have passed!"
You do not need to wait for your license to come in the post, if you passed your test and then got an insurance policy as a provisional licence holder the insurance would be invalid and may not pay out in even of a claim and also you would be liable for 6 points and losing your licence (as mentioned in video)

It is highly recommend you find a driving instructor and do a course of lessons with them, and with their agreement book a test and take it when you are ready (you do not need to be 18, but you do need to be ready)

No definitely not, you might not get your passport back or it could get lost in the post :-(

not really sure what to suggest, i don't think calling or messaging them will help as firstly I recon it will take a long time to get a response and secondly not sure if they can track your passport/application.
I guess all you can do is wait and see?

I've passed my driving test 2 weeks ago; as my address has been changed, I've applied without going to the post office. I've sent my provisional license and pass test certificate to dvsa along with the D1 form, but without a proof of ID. Will that be a problem? When reading thru the govt site, it didn't say to send an ID with the documents. Anyone has an idea?

if there are no changes I don't think you will need ID, but the form would have said, so providing your filled out the form correctly you will be fine.
If you address was correct on the licence why did you not just get the examiner to take you licence and process it, that would be much quicker and you would have you new licence by now.

yes you can drive soon as the examiner gives you to pass certificate. You don't need to wait for the licence to come back from the DVLA

Is it still mandatory to take all the 12 lessons
there has never been a mandatory amount of lesson to take.
However for most people it takes 45 hours of lessons and 20 hours of private practice until they are driving to the correct standard.

@@frankiestafford88 do you have any tips for turns. I go out too much on turns😶i done 7th lesson and the instructor still hasn’t moved up from left and right turns
@@pinsandneedlesx8825 just tell your instructor you want to focus on those weaker parts and they will help you. Also focus on observation in front and not looking down at the gears or wheel etc.

Well done on passing.
If the examiner took your licence then you do not need to do anything. They will apply for your full licence, you should received your full licence in a couple of weeks, more info on the back of your pass certificate.

You need to go to the post office and ask for a "D1" form, this is to change your address and also can be used to apply for a full licence. The form should explain more, but i would like the think the post office clerk could also help.
it is all a bit of a faff tbh. It got more complicated when they got ride of the paper 'counter part' licence.
When they had the counter part you could just put your new address on that and give that to the examiner with your provisional and they would sort it.
Now the examiner can't take exchange your provisional if it has an old address on it, you need to fill out this D1 form, and sent it to the DVLA with address ID, your provisional and your pass certificate (i would personally send a copy, i doubt they will return the orginal)
