I've played BAL a lot. First thing - FINISHING, PHYSICAL and SPEED is most important abilities, so keep them at 4-6 skill points. Defence - 0 points. You dont need that. Stamina - 2 points will be enough. Also "first time shot" skill is very useful.
When you decide to change your team, be sure to check their gameplan, and choose a team which use posession game. It's the best team playing style imo. Counter attack playing style is good also, but only if team using short pass style.
Also - make sure to check all potential squad rivals. Because highest overall players will more often play in starting line up.
That's all I remember for now. Sorry for any mistakes, my english isn't perfect :)
Edit1: I almost forgot - when your team is defending, keep the teammate pressure button pressed. You will practically stop conceding goals, and create deadly counter attacks :)
