This song made me realize the true art of grandson's music, at least to me. All of his songs speak of very dark, but all so very real and serious topics, that I usually view as distant to me, so I do not normally think of them. If I ever do think of them it's usually in a fictional context, since I read a lot of fiction, especially sci-fi and fantasy. grandson's songs bring those topics closer and with that make me realize how real and impactful they actually are, which I think is one of the goals of his music, and I appreciate that.

However, I think that in order to see it you need to step back from the system and really think about what the actual hell is going on. Grandson speaks a lot about the world we live in in his music and I love him for it 😋
I think way too much about music, how I interpreted it: the guitar solo is the shooting. You hear the clock ticking in the bridge, especially in verse two. In verse two there is another addition to aid to the theory, "when the time comes that he count to ten, ain't nobody ever gon' fuck with him again." The bridge isn't quite ten seconds, but in the moments leading up to a tragedy there is a LOT going through that persons mind and time will seem slower or faster depending on the amount of certain chemicals flooding their systems. "Decided when the lunch bell rings, that he'll sing" the second buildup starts, again a bit more than ten seconds. Given time is slightly altered as the kid makes this decision though, could account for the difference. You hear the "guitar" building, that's just the weapon being readied, the solo being him "singing" or letting loose all the aggression. On top of that the ticking clock blends in more as the lead up builds; eventually it fades almost entirely as the lead up hits the drop, potentially symbolic in a sense of heart rate climbing leading up to the tragedy. The first instance of the solo could be the fantasy of the shooting, the kid thinking that's the only way and glorifying how this will make him "powerful" against his oppressors. The second solo being the actual tragedy happening. The final solo being either a potential wind-down in a possible story of the shooter meeting his end (his hands or authorities): alternately a second wind to the tragedy and the song ends unresolved in the fact that a tragedy occurred that could have been avoided ( barring humans were more decent to each other).

The lyrics remind me more of Stick Up. It’s somewhat the same scenario, instead of robbing a bank, it’s a child shooting up the school. It has the same method of explaining the person’s mindset and life story between the chorus.
I think grandson missed a golden opportunity to include some gunshot sounds in the drop. Would be very fitting and accentuate the eerie side of the song : )

I’ve thought of shooting up my school a few times because of bullying and my family issues, but eventually made a few friends, and opened up. They supported me fully and one of them were basically a therapist to me. I was always known as the quiet and nice kid, but now I’m loud and obnoxious, which makes me get bullied more, but it has gone down since then, and is just verbal, not physical. My grades have also gone up, my mom left my dad, which made me so happy and less stressed. He’d physically and mentally abuse me, and sometimes my mom, but I’d always interfere before he hit her, but sometimes I wasn’t there. My life has gotten better, but for some people this is not the case. I wish everyone luck. And in case anyone was wondering, I’m 15, and it has been a few months since all that happened.

The fact of bullying is the worst, I have experienced that for 3 years when I was in Spain( I'm from Romania), highschool, 11 in 2011 years old, me vs the world. A lot of big guys insulting me for everything, my face, my legs, eyes, ears, accent, nationality, they have punched me sometimes and one time one of them pointed me with a knife at my throat. One day I punched a guy who insulted the name of my mother. Since that day I try to avoid violence everytime I can. Everyday was a pain inside my head, but I have passed through. I love it man. Strong lyrics like always! The fact of bullying is the worst, I have experienced that for 3 years when I was in Spain( I'm from Romania), highschool, 11 in 2011 years old, me vs the world. A lot of big guys insulting me for everything, my face, my legs, eyes, ears, accent, nationality, they have punched me sometimes and one time one of them pointed me with a knife at my throat. One day I punched a guy who insulted the name of my mother. Since that day I try to avoid violence everytime I can. Everyday was a pain inside my head, but I have passed through. Maybe the lyrics are written to an extreme situation, but the meaning ilustrates it all. Well done guys! Big hug for you and the rest of us who are there, fighting each day.

I can be a really understanding friend to some, but for bullies, I just immediately have the urge to do something against it, no matter the cost. See, maybe you're going through a lot right now. Or maybe you're alright. But no one can be happy all the time. So at some point you were sad. And that's okay. Everyone gets sad. So, if you feel like crying, just do it. If anyone judges you, well, f*ck them. You have the right to cry. While sometimes it seems like it only makes things worse, it actually helps. It helps because those bad feelings are no longer inside you.
And if it does nothing, that's okay too. Don't feel bad about yourself. You're perfect. You're perfect because in fact, no one is perfect. So actually, everyone is perfect. Okay, maybe you got a little confused over there. But even the most perfect of humans has their imperfections.
Maybe you woke up today and thought living is just eternal torture. Yeah, we all had that thought. Truth is, life can be anything, it really depends how you see it. So, you can see hard times as torture, or you can see them as a challenge that you have to overcome yourself. Because nothing feels better than beating a challenge. And I know you can do it. Anyone can. You just have to be patient. Of course that won't be easy. But great satisfaction does not come with easy challenges.
Okay, so maybe you're thinking right now "oh, this is one of those 'you're special' texts, they don't work, I'm leaving". Well, this kind of is a text to show you're special, but also is to show that self-depreciation is a part of life. And I've been there. I know how it is to feel like you don't belong in this world. Like you have no real friends, or your family doesn't support you. It is awful. But it helped me. Because now I know, that just saying "you're important to someone" isn't enough. To prove a theory, one needs proof.
So here I am. Writing this little message. It was something I wrote because I felt like some of you might need a similar helping hand.
