  • In this video I remove the Catalytic Converter/Muffler from my 2019 V-Strom 650XT and replace it with an eighteen inch Oval Delkevic Muffler. I keep the original exhaust pipes and weld on the new muffler.

    Thanks for the demo I like the way you do the step by step. Definately get a roll of 0.23 for fine work like tubing or anything small. 0.35 is like using a sledge hammer for trim work.

    Oh, and can I just say you have built this bike up exactly how I would. One day when I reduce my stable from the current 4 bikes, I will have to put together a 650 like that for myself.

      Hey there sir, good to hear from you. I have made a considerable numbers of modifications to my V-S-Strom. I have installed a Givi Touring windshield, Cartridge emulators in the front forks, lowered foot pegs, Givi side case racks and top box mounting plate for my Give Outback Treker side cases and top case. I have also raised the suspension on the bike with drag links and extended the front forks 3/4". Most all of my mods I have videos of on my channel. Just go to my channel page and type in V-Strom in the channel search bar for a short list of videos. Then click on the "show all" button to get a complete list of videos on the V-Strom. A great job well done Sir ! - The bike looks great now (especially with that modified heat shield in place) and it sounds even better - Looking at most modern bike silencers I sometimes wonder if the motorcycle manufacturers have placed a secret bet to see who can make the fattest and ugliest !.. That new Delkevic silencer sounded superb when you were giving the V-Strom the gun on the road but, going by the note at idle speed, it shouldn't be too obtrusive when trundling through the mountains near you either.. Merry Christmas to you and your family from me and mine..

    Nicely done. If you haven’t already, you may want to drill out the baffle (DB killer). On the Versys 1000 anyway the Delk ,muffler like you have was more restrictive than stock and actually cost HP, verified on the dyno as about a 7 HP loss. The solution is to drill about 40-50 3/16” holes in the DB killer insert. It’s still quieter than without it but it frees up the lost HP.

    Very impressive modification congratulations.
    Ive just purchased a 2020 V Strom 650 which has the complete Delkevic system already installed.
    Unfortunately their complete system does not allow sufficient muffler swing arm clearance.
    Ive already experienced rubbing damage as a result.
    Im not sure what to do. Your idea would solve the problem.

    Did you consider instead of welding the pipe. To do a 4 way slit and then clamp the pipes together near the O2 sensor? Or was it kinda iffy getting a good bite on the pieces to each other? The heat shield work was right sharp work there! How does it work with the luggage/boxes near the muffler? Any vibration or heat issues?

      Hello the sir, you have excellent taste in motorcycles. I have replaced the stock muffler/catalytic converter with a Delkavic muffler on my bike as well as raised the suspension both front and rear and installed cartridges in the front forks for dampening control eliminating the damper rod function. Also I lengthened the side stand to accommodate the taller suspension and installed a Givi touring wind shield. I also have installed a foam pre-filter on the air filter for better air filtering. I think that is about it... you can check out all these modifications under the videos tab on my channel page... Thanks for watching and good luck with all your projects... :)

    Nice video thanks.
    Do you think it gives any increase in power?
    Delkevic claim an almost 10% increase for the complete system.
    I have a gen 2 with a SW-MOTECH bashplate, and it won't fit with the Delkevic lower crossover pipe. So I am thinking of doing what you have done and keep the original pipes.
    Where the catalytic converter is in the system is the next question. I think a lot of the power gain is form the freeing up of the airflow with that restriction removed.

    • @ozarksbackroads5484
      @ozarksbackroads5484  3 місяці тому

      Hello there sir, good to hear from you. Hello there sir, good to hear from you. Yes I kept the baffle installed in the muffler. I do not believe it has gotten any louder than it was initially. Good to hear from you sir, The new muffler replaced the catalytic converter and old muffler so there is much less back pressure in the exhaust system. The old muffler had the catalytic converter in the front half of the muffler. The engine revs much more freely now and has a fair amount more power as well. The fueling has remained unchanged... I can't tell any difference in that. The fueling was always a bit snatchy just off idle and still is but not an issue... probably better than most bikes these days...
