So in some case, your choices doesn’t matter because the character doesn’t want to be what you expected.

In deltarune, no matter how rude or nice you are to people, it will never change the storyline. But it changes your reputation. *Edit: In the pacifist ending, the king was overthrown by everyone. In the neutral / massacre ending, the king was pacified by susie. The king may have been dealt with by Lancer, Ralsei and everyone else in the neutral / massacre ending, we just didn't get to see it.

I love how in Undertale, every decision you make matters and how reactive it is, even if the tiniest of ways. Example, if you beckon, pet and play with greater dog he’ll lick you and then walk away, showing up at grillby’s later. If you ignore him, he keeps inching closer until he walks away, deciding you’re boring. And if you kill him, well, you’ll never see him again. And killing the one character might even change your entire ending. But in Deltarune, it’s the complete opposite and you don’t get a choice, and it constantly reminds you of this. love that tho

(I actually think that that's going to be the big point of Deltarune - that while the overall outcome might not look too different either way, the small details are what really matters.)
It’s the end that matters, no matter you do, no matter what the dialogue says, it’s the same ending, the ending with kris taking his soul, putting it away, and holding up a knife. Nothing you can change about it, it’s always going to be the same ending. That’s why your choices don’t matter happens, you can’t do anything about it. You don’t get killed, the ending is the same.
0.107200 Gaming True. But the ending isn’t what I find fascinating about this “your choices don’t matter” thing. The pacifist and aggressive routes spell out HUGELY different consequences for the Dark World. The ultimate ending may be the same, but in pacifist, the King is overthrown and everything is great. Meanwhile in the aggressive route, Susie puts the King to sleep, but he’s still the king. Nobody ever bothered to release the people he’s imprisoned. Meaning Lancer’s gonna have a word or two when the King wakes up. Not to mention none of the evil things the King has done are fixed. Basically in the aggressive route the Dark World is absolutely screwed, whereas in the pacifist route it’s getting better.

Tbh, I'm also worried about my beloved Lancer, even if he becomes King in Pacifist. And I don't even want to imagine what happens in the Massacre Ending, when his Dad wakes up AND has the support of his full Army. Please tell me Lancer goes to prison for a little while, eats a bit of moss, and then we arrive to save him!
Not to mention Ralsei, since he'd probably get locked up and have to use his magic to WAKE UP THE KING... And there's no doubt that Lancer will be locked away after the violent ending since if he didn't block the throne room door Kris and Susie probably wouldn't have made it to the fountain. Personally, if our actions don't truly matter, we might not see the dark world (or at least this one) for a long time.
Kris is not pulling out his soul for nothing: it isn't to stopping you from controlling him, it's to not comming back from that other world, he doesn't want to accept his new reality. Literally everybody reminds him how was that time when Asriel was with him, so letting Asriel go was painfull. Ralsei is a replacement for Asriel. When the game says "Your choises doesn't matter" it really means that you can't change what happend, but you can change your future
Ok guys edit: In chapter two Noelle can front face her problems about her sister, her mother and father. No matter what route you choose, it always end in "the same way" So, that could mean that Kris is trying to kick you out of that world cause' everybody can solve their problems by their own (Your choices doesn't matter because those aren't your problems: They don't need YOUR help)
What's weird is that I hurt one of the Diamond enemies early on because I didn't know and I still got the ending with the crowd. I guess it's because I apologized.
That's interesting...I played through and got the "good" ending with Lancer deposing the king, but got some of the "violent" dialogue with the Darkners in the Castle. Rudinn was upset but forgave me after I apologized, as did Hathy. I had forgotten to warn a few Rudinn about Susie's attacks because I had had to come back and finish the game later but remembered in time not to completely ruin my reputation, I guess 😅
It took me 78 tries to beat sans and 3 to beat jevil. Sans is freaking harder. Also if sans practiced fighting like undyne and papyrus then he would basically become the toughest enemy in the series
and choices still dont matter because the ending is always the same, or almost he same in pacifist the king is over thrown, in geneocide everyone freaks out... but you always leave the dark world and surface dialogues are not changed
The ending did change but not extremely. In pacifist everyone helps overthrow the king, while in genocide/massacre evrey one is scared. Remember not every thing has a big affect.
And in the massacre ending the king is gonna wake up and God knows what he'd gonna do to Lancer, and the Dark World is screwed since he's still in charge.
Should a violent run of Deltarune really be called massacre when you don't actually kill anyone? I personally think it should be "Pacifist" vs. "Bully"
regardless of the ending being the same. i believe choices still matter. do you want to leave the darkner world hated and feared more then they did their cruel king, or would you rather leave it more peaceful and happy then when you arrived? you can argue the message of the game and the technicality of "thats not THE end of the game though" and "regardless of how it happened, it still happens" and you are not wrong, but im a high believer that if your actions leave the state of those they effect differently (and they definately do here) then that matters. i would rather leave the darkners happy and under the new rule of lancer, then in that hatefull and fearfull state of doing things the cruel way, every time. that matters to me. it may not stop Kris from throwing the shakles of our controll over them in the end, nor how the people of the town see Kris, but in my heart, if i've made a difference of any kind thats positive or negative, base on my choices, then in the end, thats enough for me to consider those choices mattering. and if you disagree, well thats just telling of your morals, isnt it. "if the ending is the same, who cares about my choices" remember this is toby fox we are talking about, and this was only chapter 1 AND A DEMO. the "your choices dont matter" could be exactly what we are meant to fight in the end. if we give in to that rule, and just let whatever happens happen, we are not only acting like the Kris of the game before we stole his body, (a mischievous kid doing whatever he likes and being an awkward loner) but we are giving into the loogic others tell us. remember flowey? he told us it is a kill or be killed world. in pacifist we fought that logic, to make a difference and spare everyone, and create a happy ending. in genocide however we kill everyone and give into Flowey's belief. and while "your choices dont mater" doesnt hold the same weight as "kill or be killed" did, it is more difficult to battle, and thats our goal. its easy not to kill, its harder because sometimes fate has other plans. just because thats what will happen though, doesnt mean we shouldnt try.

The symbolism here is absolutely remarkable. No matter what choices we make throughout our lives, the "ending" is the same. Meaning our lives are all going to end someday... Toby Fox was absolutely right when he said that he won't be able to make anything that will compare to UNDERTALE... However, he still was able to give us "something else." There will be little differences in our lives, depending on the choices we make. But we will never be able to escape the inevitable fate which is the end of our lives. I LOVE THIS GAME

I think everyone focuses on the ending WAY too much. It's the fact that your choices don't matter that the ending doesn't matter. It's not a coincidence that the perspective of the people change depending on what route you take. Because even though it's kind of a meme to say this, I think the real message is that, even though all our lives end the same way that's not what matters because what really matters is the friends you find along the way. I used to have this theory that kris was frisk and chara combined (attitude and personality as frisk and looks as chara, it makes sense, right?) and now after watching this video i think that frisk finally pieced together what their soul really is for (for you to control it) and wants to get rid of it, they found out about this most probably not only because of the dark world, but because of chara, in the ending of genocide undertale, it was subtle, but still enough to make out that chara wasnt talking to frisk, but talking to US the player, about giving them our soul, even flowey asks chara and US to let frisk "live their lives normally"

The armor is JEVILSTAIL in-game, or simply Jevil's tail. The weapon is called JEVILSKNIFE in-game, or just Jevil's knife. Also, increasing Jevil's tiredness for the pacifist run can be done with Piruette and Hypnosis.
You sure about that? At the end of the game you seal the fountain which is stated several times to be the thing that gives the Darkworld its form. Susie even asks Lancer at the end of the game if closing the fountain would do his world any harm to witch he says he doesn't know. So perhaps whatever choices you make you'll always end up committing genocide. After all, "Your choices don't matter".

it took me at least 5 attempts to find out how to get a pacifist ending because, by default, i always try to go for the genocide/massacre ending in any game and like,, people were talking about how they said goodbye to everyone and this and that and im just *"bro what kind of drugs are you doing"*

[SPOILERS BELOW] yeah, that's probably why kris opened the fountain in chapter 2, just so they could keep having more adventures and spending time together. it's very clear that kris was a loner before the game starts, their only friend was asriel. and since he's gone now, they had nobody until the dark world showed up. now they're best friends with susie, noelle understands them better and is also friends with them, and they have a whole world that only they know about. it's a metaphor for people finding escapism in playing games

It’s the end that matters, no matter you do, no matter what the dialogue says, it’s the same ending, the ending with kris taking his soul, putting it away, and holding up a knife. Nothing you can change about it, it’s always going to be the same ending. That’s why your choices don’t matter happens, you can’t do anything about it. You don’t get killed, the ending is the same.

But the ending isn’t what I find fascinating about this “your choices don’t matter” thing.
The pacifist and aggressive routes spell out HUGELY different consequences for the Dark World.
The ultimate ending may be the same, but in pacifist, the King is overthrown and everything is great.
Meanwhile in the aggressive route, Susie puts the King to sleep, but he’s still the king. Nobody ever bothered to release the people he’s imprisoned. Meaning Lancer’s gonna have a word or two when the King wakes up. Not to mention none of the evil things the King has done are fixed.
Basically in the aggressive route the Dark World is absolutely screwed, whereas in the pacifist route it’s getting better.

Personally, if our actions don't truly matter, we might not see the dark world (or at least this one) for a long time.

Kris is not pulling out his soul for nothing: it isn't to stopping you from controlling him, it's to not comming back from that other world, he doesn't want to accept his new reality. Literally everybody reminds him how was that time when Asriel was with him, so letting Asriel go was painfull. Ralsei is a replacement for Asriel.
When the game says "Your choises doesn't matter" it really means that you can't change what happend, but you can change your future

That's interesting...I played through and got the "good" ending with Lancer deposing the king, but got some of the "violent" dialogue with the Darkners in the Castle. Rudinn was upset but forgave me after I apologized, as did Hathy. I had forgotten to warn a few Rudinn about Susie's attacks because I had had to come back and finish the game later but remembered in time not to completely ruin my reputation, I guess 😅

The ending did change but not extremely. In pacifist everyone helps overthrow the king, while in genocide/massacre evrey one is scared. Remember not every thing has a big affect.
And in the massacre ending the king is gonna wake up and God knows what he'd gonna do to Lancer, and the Dark World is screwed since he's still in charge.
The whole point is things in the DARK WORLD changes, nothing on the surface does.

regardless of the ending being the same. i believe choices still matter. do you want to leave the darkner world hated and feared more then they did their cruel king, or would you rather leave it more peaceful and happy then when you arrived?
you can argue the message of the game and the technicality of "thats not THE end of the game though" and "regardless of how it happened, it still happens" and you are not wrong, but im a high believer that if your actions leave the state of those they effect differently (and they definately do here) then that matters. i would rather leave the darkners happy and under the new rule of lancer, then in that hatefull and fearfull state of doing things the cruel way, every time. that matters to me. it may not stop Kris from throwing the shakles of our controll over them in the end, nor how the people of the town see Kris, but in my heart, if i've made a difference of any kind thats positive or negative, base on my choices, then in the end, thats enough for me to consider those choices mattering.

remember this is toby fox we are talking about, and this was only chapter 1 AND A DEMO. the "your choices dont matter" could be exactly what we are meant to fight in the end. if we give in to that rule, and just let whatever happens happen, we are not only acting like the Kris of the game before we stole his body, (a mischievous kid doing whatever he likes and being an awkward loner) but we are giving into the loogic others tell us. remember flowey? he told us it is a kill or be killed world. in pacifist we fought that logic, to make a difference and spare everyone, and create a happy ending. in genocide however we kill everyone and give into Flowey's belief. and while "your choices dont mater" doesnt hold the same weight as "kill or be killed" did, it is more difficult to battle, and thats our goal. its easy not to kill, its harder because sometimes fate has other plans. just because thats what will happen though, doesnt mean we shouldnt try.

The symbolism here is absolutely remarkable. No matter what choices we make throughout our lives, the "ending" is the same. Meaning our lives are all going to end someday... Toby Fox was absolutely right when he said that he won't be able to make anything that will compare to UNDERTALE... However, he still was able to give us "something else." There will be little differences in our lives, depending on the choices we make. But we will never be able to escape the inevitable fate which is the end of our lives. I LOVE THIS GAME

I think everyone focuses on the ending WAY too much. It's the fact that your choices don't matter that the ending doesn't matter. It's not a coincidence that the perspective of the people change depending on what route you take. Because even though it's kind of a meme to say this, I think the real message is that, even though all our lives end the same way that's not what matters because what really matters is the friends you find along the way. NO MEME INTENDED. This is further emphasized by what Susie say after the king is defeated for good.
Tldr: Basically your choices doesn't matter BUT your actions sure do.

I used to have this theory that kris was frisk and chara combined (attitude and personality as frisk and looks as chara, it makes sense, right?) and now after watching this video i think that frisk finally pieced together what their soul really is for (for you to control it) and wants to get rid of it, they found out about this most probably not only because of the dark world, but because of chara, in the ending of genocide undertale, it was subtle, but still enough to make out that chara wasnt talking to frisk, but talking to US the player, about giving them our soul, even flowey asks chara and US to let frisk "live their lives normally"

The armor is JEVILSTAIL in-game, or simply Jevil's tail.
The weapon is called JEVILSKNIFE in-game, or just Jevil's knife.
Also, increasing Jevil's tiredness for the pacifist run can be done with Piruette and Hypnosis.
Well the same for Kris... but the Darkworld is safe in pacifist :D
You sure about that? At the end of the game you seal the fountain which is stated several times to be the thing that gives the Darkworld its form. Susie even asks Lancer at the end of the game if closing the fountain would do his world any harm to witch he says he doesn't know. So perhaps whatever choices you make you'll always end up committing genocide. After all, "Your choices don't matter".

I honestly think that Kris, the sibling who was never as much as a success, just wants to have this adventure. His adventure. And honestly, I feel bad that there's no way to let him play at his own game.

yeah, that's probably why kris opened the fountain in chapter 2, just so they could keep having more adventures and spending time together. it's very clear that kris was a loner before the game starts, their only friend was asriel. and since he's gone now, they had nobody until the dark world showed up. now they're best friends with susie, noelle understands them better and is also friends with them, and they have a whole world that only they know about. it's a metaphor for people finding escapism in playing games
