  • Whether you've been wakeboarding for a long time or a first timer, these are the same tips I give even to experienced riders. When you feel the difference of using these 3 tips, it not only saves energy for you, but it helps you teach other riders who want to learn to get up for the first time. We've all heard less is more and in this edit you'll see how true this phrase is. Even if you've watched some of my instructional edits on how to get up on a wakeboard, I encourage you to check this one out from start to finish! I've learned some key things that can make your struggles and fails a thing of the past!
I also give some tips for the drivers on how to drive someone getting out of the water for the first time or a veteran ripper. Make your deep water wakeboard starts the easiest part of your day!
As always, if you have questions or comments on this video, ideas for others, feel free to drop em below!
    Enjoy your ride! ✌️

After plowing for two days and not getting up, I was ready to give up. Resorting to this video made all the difference. I immediately got up the next time I tried. After that again and again, the wake board launch was no longer an issue. Thank you for your great advice Shaun! What a fun sport!

4 years of attempting to wake surf behind a jetski. And was told that it will not work and will need a decent wake boat. I followed this technique and i was wake surfing in under 30mins behind a gtx 300. Thank you thank you Shawn for this very easy and informative tutorial.

These instructional videos are absolutely golden! We should be paying you to make these! I like how you give the dry-land instruction with the small video inserts, and the same instructions from the water perspective. There is nothing else like this video on the web. Well done!
I've had a few people try and try to get up on a wakeboard without success, even after I exhausted all of my tips. Once you get up, it's mind-blowing how easy it is. Some people just can't get the concept of letting the board be like a wing. It's so frustrating because I just want them to experience the fun too!
The thought and quality of your video is ridic. Your video even shows the board under water with the proper angle! Nice! I'll be showing this video to any new riders from now on.

Thanks so much Shaun for what you do! I am 38 and tried boarding for the first time this summer, with only doing some watersports back in high school. Thanks to your video(s) I was able to get up on the first time out! And I only have a regular bowrider inboard/outboard boat with no tower so I was hesitant on even trying. Went a couple more times before end of the season and was able to ride and go outside of the wake so I am really looking forward to next season to keep going and will be watching your content for sure! This video got a 50 year old dad bod wake boarding in two tries, every time I started to plow water, I would follow his tip amd trim board back under water and gradually worked my way back to surface. Without this video, it never would have work because I was going to treat it like water skiing which would have been all wrong. Great job on this video!!! Thank you so much!

    @TR-cs4tf 2 роки тому +2

Good tips Shaun. I find it much easier to get up when the board has a chance to plane up to the surface first, versus trying to muscle it up. This typically happens for me on occasion when I’m not trying too hard. Definitely will be incorporating this for myself and when helping my granddaughter on her board.

Thanks man, the plowing matter ... got that now and is also a safety matter, when I kept hanging too much and the power overwhelmed (hence too much power also) my fingers got jammed between the handle and the board big time. So, when using the board as a wing and keep the line clear away off the board and glide up like a wing, got up with normal stress on the body. After a few runs, knowing the body / feet position that works (safely), then more accelaration helped also. Thanks man. Still much to learn but that is what it makes fun for this 48 year dude. Thanks for being inspirational and giving focus!

The best tip's and learning video ever!!!!
Long time ago, I used to water ski. The key then was to have the ski tip outside the water always; with the Wakeboard I tried to do the same. The plow was so hard impossible to resist (I weight 220; strong) never could go out with the wakeboard. Yesturday, in my first try I was out like nothing; so easy, so easy the wing was the key for me!

Awesome video. I was struggling to get up after about 15 years away from wakeboarding (and a recent full hip replacement). Hey Shaun just wanted to say a massive thanks. Before watching your video I spent my first day plowing and straining my back... Didn't get up a single time and actually thought I'd broken my finger having it ripped into the board.
After watching this video, and keeping in mind that "it's a wing, not a plow", I got up first try, and ended up doing a 6 minute run using your principals. Wakeboarding was an incredible experience and absolutely a highlight of my vacation.
Just felt you should know your video creates a LOT more joy than you may be aware of. Thank you so much again for sharing your excellent and crucial knowledge, sir!

Perfect tips! I've always found that demonstrating these elements to a beginner before they put the board on really helps too. I get them sitting in the water, feet on the edge of the platform, then pass them the handle. This way, you can pull them out of the water with the handle, and they will see for themselves when they stay in a ball you can pull them up with two fingers. I then get them to straighten their legs and demonstrate how immensely this increases the force on the handle.

So I literally just went out on the lake, with people who have been boarding for years, and they legit would smash the throttle down and say if you can't get up within at least a few seconds you'll never get up. Had I been able to do this I'm sure the trip would have been more enjoyable and I probably wouldn't be in so much pain right now

Board as a Wing not as a Plow made all the difference in the world. older people who couldn't get up, now pop up easily even when being pulled from a lowly Sea-Doo Spark. not much power needed now, on the boat, and mostly on your back. THANK YOU!!

I'm 50 years old and my boys and I went to OWC a couple weeks ago while on a Disney trip with and we all were easily able to get off the dock on the standard cable and fast cable with the standard rental boards (with fins). Got slider boards and had fun on the standard cable hitting the features. Best part of my vacation!! Back to Houston, found my local cable park, and can't get off the dock -- feels very fast. Love to see one of your instructional videos on getting off the dock - (whether sitting or standing) whatever you recommend for an old duffer about 5' 11", 200 lbs.

Awesome to hear you had a good experience initially and know the potential for more fun. Interesting/bummer that you had a tougher time in Houston. Could be faster, smaller board, or some other factor. I'll add the cable dock start idea to my list so thanks for the input Randall!

First time “wake boarder” here… I am in my sixties, and I wanted to give wake board a try with my son ( 14 years old) using our 2021 BRP Sea Doo wake!
We didn’t know much about wake boarding so we decided to watch this video that we found here on UA-cam.
Well, believe it or not but we applied the advices Shaun is showing in this Video and we just love the experience… we both were up and running on the board in a snap!
Shaun is really a good coach and his explanations are right to the point!
If newcomers to the sport don’t want to loose time and energy trying over and over without much success, I really recommend watching this video!
Great job Shaun for everything, the advices, the Video montage and the sound is clear… well done!!!
    👍👍

Excellent. I found learning to water ski easier in the Shark infested waters of Australia’s north, meaning I wanted to get my arse out of that water quicker.

This was a great video, thanks! Especially the part about it being a wing instead of a plow, that was the key for my daughter. Thanks for the driver tips as well, super helpful.

49yr old novice wakeboarder. I could get up, but such a physical effort. Not to mention eating half the lake in the process. Tried this technique after a particularly poor session having not wakeboarded for 10 months. Immediate success, effortless launch, little physical effort required. Great instructional. Many thanks.
