A tip is to use the fan from an old oilburner, they have built in air adjusment valve and is much smaller and the airflow is more than you need, i have built mine that way.

That little anvil, or "bottom anvil" as you called it, we call it a Stake here. At least any tool that has the wedge shaped bottom on them. Great for forming. Many options. I'd say it was likely for a sheet metal shop.

Well done. I use to go to the scrapyard all the time looking for antique auto parts to resell. My good friend for the last 52 years has a scrapyard he started in 1953 when he was 11 years old and still runs it today 5 days a week. He lives there and most everything he owns he has salvaged including two houses he tore down and rebuild on his property.

Survivorship bias. I'm sure there were just as many (if not more) garbage tools at that time. But they've been broken and thrown out. Anything that hasn't broken in 50ish years likely isn't going to.
Which is why I like old tools, but only ones that show obvious usage. New Old Stock is for collectors.

That is a very nice forge, it looks very effective. To regulate the air flow very simply, you might consider using a Y on the output side of the blower to allow some air to be vented out of the side. 1 valve or damper on each side of the Y will give you the ability to reduce the air flow from near zero to 100 % without putting an unnecessary strain on the motor or building a complex motor control.

  • @madusmaxamus8670

Another option for your blower for your foredge would to drill a 1/2 hole in the feed pipe and put a collar over it with another hole in it and then move the one hole over the other till the air flow to the foredge is getting the right amount of air. Simply bleed the excess air off and save having to build a speed controller.

I am into building a forge for my self also. Just I will be doing the air inlet from a side, and bottom with a sliding lid to empty accumulated ash over time, so it doesn't drop straight into the motor. Because it wont be blowing constantly. On the other hand that blower is all metal, impellers would be also, so it will be OK. It will blow the ash right up :-)

Just me but I think you need an ash drain. When you shut off the blower some ash will drift down the tube. You don't want that to collect into your blower assembly.

Maybe not the right kind of apocalypse, but, **YOUR DAY HAS COME!** . You could've used a circle-jig (a string and bolt even) on the oxy-ace to make that circle nice and smooth. Also, seeing as how you do movie stuff once in a while, you missed a pretty major score. There was aluminum triangular set rigging in the scrapyard there, at least 3 long sections of it. Super lightweight, super strong.

Get yourself a cheap second hand variable frequency drive inverter you then can control the 3 phase motor properly down to almost no revolutions for the fan. Nice well thought out project. It's a great pity we are not allowed into scrap yards here in England, the health and safety side of liability insurance seems to be the cause.
