Arthur C. Clark is working (working!) on communication satellites!?! Wow, those were the days. Thx Arthur. What I type now couldn't be read worldwide without you. :)
min 5:30 "the satellite will make possible instant contact and communication with anyone, anywhere...we will no longer commute, just communicate" OMG! Sir Clarke predicted the internet and social networks!
I will concede that Mr. Clarke was quite correct however about surgeons performing operations from locations distant from the patient. Indeed it has already occurred on several occasions.
Mr. clark is a legend, when he says you could contact someone without knowing their location-mobile phones. I would love to know what he would predict now, mind blowing
6:00 the internet! my god scientists really can predict the future :) so we can trust our visions of the future, well lets hope our scientists are as smart as Arthur
@theGhoulman Clarke was right about the impact of easy, cheap worldwide communications, but wrong about the medium. At the time he was speaking (1964), satellites were poised to take over communications, but for many of the applications he describes they're just too slow. Today, fiber optic cables carry over 95% of all traffic worldwide - internet, video, phone, etc.
It is interesting how humans always tend to envision the future as a magnification of the present. Maybe Trying to come up with something new should not be made by starting with something old (That is what happened in the renaissance)
Truly impressed about how rightly he predicted the future, the connected world and all that.. bit off with the whole thing about the demise of cities though. In this age more people than ever are living in cities.
Pretty damned impressive, if you were living when these predictions were made. Several of them, done. More, like truly intelligent machines, he had the time frame too short, but in two generations, we are getting close, and three, given no great social, economic, or destructive upheavals/disasters, will almost certainly see it done. As for directly connecting the brain to machines, the very beginning phases of that work have been accomplished in labs, and will hit the mainstream as workable devices, I predict, within twenty to thirty years. We are going the direction of the Borg, no question, in that biological and electronic devices will be joined to enhance human abilities, in perception, productivity, and intelligence capacity. Global communication, check.
The ice caps are disappearing so I think I've already noted one prediction has already been disproved spoken of early in this piece in that humans will live in domed cities on the ice caps.
@amatorynumber Well as I don't want the jungles to be eradicated. Glossy cities are pretty rad!! I want everything to look like something out of Blade Runner lol. And there's going to be strict laws enforcing the protection of these important jungles and parts of nature lol
how TF you cut tropical forests, colonize stuff you don't even understand, change the atmosphere and not want the world to be one big sub-urban city (smh-disappointed)
Too bad the Monolith was only his imagination : ( But all the other cool technologies seem to be coming true in some form or other : ) We can thank guys like Arthur C. Clarke for helping to inspire the visionaries of this generation and the last, and probably the next, and the one after...
I love when people know what the future will be like, especially when they are scientists because they should know better. Anyone who says the know what will happen ten years from now is lying much less ten days from now
Clarke unfortunately is not a social scienetist and failed to grasp both the need of man to be face to face and the idiocy of people regressing away from rationality.
Have you seen George Bush (father) talk about the nwo the “illumination of 1000 points of light” the part that struck me the most was when he said “ a rule of law not the law of the jungle etc.. “ then he keeps talking and then said “not in the so distant future a nwo will come and when are successful WHICH WE WILL BE “ looking at this video at 5:49 sounds like same thing he even Smirked just like Bush. God help us all
@@airsofttrooper08 Well the Quran actually predicted many of the future today. The bible has been changed so many times, its not even authentic. The Quran has not been changed once.
It's interesting that his predictions despite it's accuracy in some ways don't foresee the perils that will accompany such visions... climate change, pandemics, socio-political and socio-economical turmoil to name a few. It goes to show that we humans believe that there is an infinite abundance of resources to exploit and to this day the fallacy of man's domination over nature shall result in his eventual downfall and extinction...
Viewing living beings as mere commodities was/is unfortunately common among empiricists like Clarke, especially with the so-called greatest generation, of which Clarke was a member.
Sir Arthur C Clarke 1917-2008 Was Very Insightful And A Visionary Man Years Ahead Of His Time! Predicted Computers And The Internet Years Before They Became Commonplace!👴🖲💻🖥⌨🖱🛰🚀🌌🇬🇧🇱🇰
“The prophet”? I think a lot of people missed a lot in this interview. Mohammed (Peace be upon him) Predicted the future and some of his prophecy’s have actually happened like the internet, 1500 years ago it was predicted that a “net” will bring all humanity together. Coincidence? Random? What ever conclusion you come to depending on your faith and beliefs you have to admit this is very interesting scripture from over 1500 years ago written by people listening to a man who couldn’t read or write. You are naturally conditioned as humans to believe what you have been bought up to believe and what beliefs society teaches you dependent on what “clicks” you hang with. It’s human nature and it’s subconsciously imbedded into your nural subconscious. Only way to hack your way out into other topics you have to really be motivated to go look for facts yourself from reliable sources. Sometimes one source is just not enough on subjects of real importance if not the most important thing.
20 years ago I was talking about climate change and how life-span for humans will be much longer one day. No one believed me. Now they do but they don't believe the new stuff I'm talking about. Lol.
what about the increase in gayness? there are a lot more gays now than in the past...is that because of science and new discoveries? Arthur C Clark was the man...a real clever man!
Thanks for posting this! What an amazing man and visionary.
R u still alive
One of the great minds of the 20th century.
It's not every day a man gets to predict an outlandish future, and live to see it all come to fruition. Lucky guy, that Arthur C. Clarke.
He predicted the plot of The Matrix and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
R u still alive

The narrator at the start sounds like ITN newsreader Gordon Honeycombe. He narrated Clarke's series 'Mysterious World' in 1979/80

A.C.Clarke was a great visionary.
The guy was a genius with such an optimistic view on the world and humanity. He failed to take into account the darker sides of humanity though.

He also predicted Total Recall too

scarily accurate - I know god he really nailed the living in domed communities on the ice caps!
This guy is crazy, that stuff wont happen by the year 2000!
I wonder what happened to all the models in this .
5:40! Clarke is predicting the internet! He got it right!
Great video. I sure wish we can live in the Future. When will it ever come? I wonder ...
