Sounds like chopper-controlled traction motors on the A3L92 stock. I love the way they sound!

There are a LOT of photogenic stations in Berlin. Some are kind of, eh, and the Moscow Metro it certainly ain't, but it puts most American systems, Washington and New York included, to shame.

Agreed. As a former New York born person, you couldn't pay me to ride the Subway now. This video is amazing. I saw no litter or trash, reminds me of Japan. How far we, the mighty USA, have fallen.

@@nancyoffenhiser4916 I don't think it's an American thing per se.
New York's system, as system, was ahead of its time. Some of the surviving original tile work, is impressive even today. Getting everything integrated, from different companies, was no small feat.
The architectural decay, can probably be explained by a simple lack of practitioners: nobody learned how to build or properly maintain things like that anymore, with predictable results.
The bigger problem in the 70's, which we see again today, was lax enforcement of the rules on the books. Today, it's arguably worse, because New York's Finest know full well that they won't even get lip service out of Gracie Mansion. (Disclosure: As an adopted Floridian, I admittedly have a dog in this fight. The state currently offers $5,000 bonuses, and incentives, to law enforcement officers from other states.)
As for the DC Metro, don't get me started. Never mind the Brutalist architecture, which is ugly by design. The "leadership" is as close as it's possible to get, to a real-life version of "Who's On First." No leadership, means no accountability, and from there, it's just a question of what will break down, when.
A lot of the problems in American rail, generally, can often be traced back to bad leadership, be that industrial, or political.
