I am here to give these jack stands a thumbs up! I have never been under a vehicle my entire life until tonight! A few minutes before i went under there,i was terrified! Much later i was sort of okay and focused on the work at hand(Getting the oxygen sensor out which didn't work out since it was stuck) I have no complaints about these jack stands at all.They did the job keeping the car in the air(2007 Nissan altima)If you are concerned about uneven ground,then find even ground! The chain wasn't a problem nor was the pin.
I have a pair of these aluminum Torins and they're great. You raise a good point about the base on uneven surfaces - luckily my garage floor is flat. I would like them to be taller and for the base to be about an inch wider, but other than that no complaints. The chain length and ball detent are nonissues in normal use. It's nice to not worry about any potential weld or pawl failure. For my larger vehicle I got a set of the 6-ton Pro-lifts after watching your other video. Thanks
Used to work at a at a shop as the maintenance mechanic and the "tune ups" the best jack stand i found over the years of experience is the 1. Esco 2. These aluminum red torin jack stands. 3. The pro lift. I agree with you on only the the ball pin retainer. I love the base of these because you should always lift your car in a leveled surface no matter what type of jack or jackstands you use.these is more of a safety feature imo as they will tell you if your level and will always make you jack up a car in a level surface. If not level add a piece of wood under. If emergency or off road then it is understandable but not recommended to use uneven surface levels. I seen people use uneven surfaces and car slides sliding or moves becoming unsafe. The cahin just untangle it rotate it the other way it was twisted.
Thanks for the video. I've seen tons and tons of videos of jack stands being tested and their tolerance ranges from 10,000 lbs to 47,000 lbs. If you are working within the specified weight limit, you shouldn't have to worry too much. If an accident happens, it will be your car's rusty underside breaking, not the jack stands. As far as the Harbor Freight recall, that only happens if you accidentally pushed the lever. Just don't touch the lever. Still dangerous, but not as bad as most people think.
I got a set of these recently to take on a Drag Week style event where you carry everything in your race car and obviously weight is a big consideration. Mine don't have the detent issue. The ball does engage and offer some resistance to the pin sliding out. If it weren't for needing to carry them around I would say to just get a decent set of steel ones for less money.

I got a pair of replacement 3 Ton jack stands (RED) from Harbor Freight. The welds look absolutely perfect at every location on both stands, so I can't see any reason to return them! I'm sure that if I bought new jack stands I would most likely get stands with welds I don't like. Jack stands can easily be inspected for the weld quality, metal gauge, and ratchet action and engagement. I wonder why there are no positive videos about any of the HF, recalled jack stands made by machinists and welders since supposedly only a small percentage are affected??? My original HF 3 ton stands (GREY) had very poor engagement of the ratchet mechanism due to shallow teeth (easily seen by inspection), but I can find no fault with the RED ones so I will probably keep them.
Would love to hear your thoughts on the Chicago pneumatics 3ton jack stands with locking pins. Also the AFF heavy duty pin type 5ton jack stands. Both are available on Amazon.
I am not a fan of the base design on these stands. Looks to me like they would be more prone to tipping or breaking from racking pressure. I like the pin design, but I would prefer that with a traditional base and with a retaining pin to hold it in place. I recently purchased the Pro-Lift stands from your previous review to use with my Ram 1500 (I got ones rated for 6,000 lbs each). Good review, thank you!
They make quick release pins with a push button ball release on the head. Much better, just have to fit correctly in the hole for them to work properly
I seen a real test on all jack stands made by Hydraulic press on UA-cam.. They used a 100 ton hydraulic press. All the A frame types failed at the lock at 6 tons. Hence the reason they add the square cross pin on them. The Torin Aluminum failed at 12 tons...As they ripped down the tube itself very slow.. But you could see them failing long before they collapsed completely. Why I bought these.. As they are rated at 3 tons. But I know they can withstand at least 10 tons...
I don't know maybe I'm wrong but the design of these stands offer a locking pin which looks safer, yet the base design looks like they would tip easily
@@Kamal_AL-Hinai incorrect-ish, the critical point of the jack is the shear force on the pin....which is steel. Check out the hydraulic press channel, they tested these vs the steel jacks and the aluminum resisted almost twice the force. The aluminum stand has a greater wall thickness vs the steel jacks and that is where it’s greater resistance to the shear force comes from.
“I like the design of these Turin’s” And that’s basically why they sell. The Turin’s are the iPhone of the jack stand arsenal. And it’s fatal flaw is performance. You noticed that base was a bit too tiny huh? Try jacking it a few holes, that base gets smaller the higher you go. And cracked floors or uneven driveways or SLOPED drives? No way. But they are the only futuristic all anodized, race-like stands on the market so there’s that. Also the associated jacks that are typically sold as a kit are only 1.5 ton. Almost useless.
Good video as always... The base is definitely a potential issue... But have always been concerned with relatively small pall on the ratcheting ones...
I have the Schwaben branded 3-ton pin jack stands (same color too)...I wonder if they have the same defects? The Schwaben stands have a better detent ball that actually makes contact with the jack tube body and will not pull through...but there were also 15% more than yours...which is why I wait for a sale from the place I got them
naah I wouldn't buy those, base seems to be flimsy, if the vehicle rocks alittle from the unevenness, well, i could see one side of the flat on the base crack off or bend.....soo , Im out
I have seen this type of jack stand where the base has bent / broken. Not sure if this was due to uneven ground, uneven loading, or overloading. I avoid this type at all costs. This design means that any uneven loads are concentrated on a small area of the base, not good. The stands with angled legs handle these uneven loads better.
I also want to add another concern with these as they age. I have a feeling the base is going to "cup" upwards over time as you use them from tiny unevenness and the shifting weight when you lower the vehicle onto them. This cupping will then make them unstable and a tipping hazard. Maybe I'm completely wrong and HF has taken these mechanics into account when they designed them. It would be good to come back a couple years down the line and check how they stood up.

I would be really worried about the acrew that holds the cilinder to the base...like how much torque does that screw can withstand if there is any sway
I have two sets of pin jack stands. So old they were made in the USA. I don't like the base design on the aluminum stands. I still leave my floor jacks (2) under the car just touching the car.

I'm in the market for new jack stands after returning my HFT ones. What I'd like to find is something like the pro-lift ones, but that have some flat feet in the corners to prevent sinking. Home Depot used to sell a Husky brand pair like that last year, which also had a locking pin, but not anymore, ugh. Edit: Looks like they're still available in Canada as model #T43001C.
They actually dont, Hydraulic Press Channel crushed them, they bent till the pin snapped. They also crushed at the highest weight of any jack ever on the channel 27,500. That was 9000 more lbs than 6t rated steel normal stands took.
If you call the company and ask them to replace the pins with a proper locking detent ball I would tell them the damn make sure they are correct! No not sure about it? Make damn well site certain they're correct (tell the company)
I've never found jack stands that I feel secure using on Hondas/Acuras where the jacking point is a thin folded over piece of metal. I can just imagine resting those on these smooth surfaces feeling like the car could slide on them. Not impressed.

This is like stollen design/patent from Edgewater Automotive Div., St. Joseph, Mich. - so why you wish to pay more for an stolen ... find the original one or find the original designer and support him - they are North Americans, close to Canada border - Detroit

Plus it's really easy just to switch out the chain with a longer one. Good chain can be brought really cheap.

My pair didn’t even come with the M8 bolts to assemble the base. Luckily I keep a lot of spare bolts around.

Curious what the thickness of those tubes are, something like this can easily be made, assuming you can find a tube and pipe set that works.
I have two pairs of the Torin aluminum stands so far I really like them.

I emailed the company about the weight limit. They said each stand is rated to hold 6,000 pounds.
For the shortcomings you mentioned, I would return these stands.
I need a jack stand that is not going to dig in my epoxy floors. This is why my choices are limited.

Aren't they considerably larger? On a truck, 7ton stands might be good but not sure about a typical car.

The double lock design jacks from hein werner are way more expensive then 100 dollers the 100 doller ones are the pawl design no secondary pin lock

No way I would use cast aluminum jack stands. When they fail, they are going to crack and explode all at once, rather than bend like steel.
