Amen. The most helpful explanation that I have heard is that Christian fasting is about PASSION and FOCUS; it is not meritorious. We don't earn anything - Christ earned everything for us on the cross. It is about PASSION to know the Lord and His will. We are putting aside other things to show the INTENSITY of our desire to seek Him. And it is about FOCUS. Especially after three days, we get a heightened clarity of mind towards the Lord and His Word. We are better able to pray and listen and more ready to submit to Him. From this focus and passion we ask more earnestly and receive: "And your Father who sees in secret will reward you." Matthew 6:18

Also, it's widely believed that Jesus did drink water during His 40 day fast ("and then He was hungry" so it kind of implies that He drank water during the 40 days). Also, Daniel did eat food during his fast (I think he only ate vegetables).

The difference is, the person who responds to the question, "why are you not eating food?" is not announcing to everyone that he or she is fasting, they are answering one person's question. In fact, to not tell people you are fasting would be either 1.) to lie and/or 2.) to draw attention to yourself. It is very clear that Jesus's teaching in Matthew 6 about fasting was about not drawing attention to yourself when you fast. What does 'vergan' mean? We Christians fast to be with God. So instead of doing a normal day activities such as being with our families and eating and going out, we spend this time reading the bible and praying to God.
But, do you need to fast? We do not long for Jesus for he is in us thru the holy spirit right? So yes you can fast but their is not a need for it. Can you move God my fasting? No, there is nothing you can do. Jesus has already done all that was needed to be done. We don't need to sacrifice anything Jesus was the sacrifice. You can fast all you want because your telling God you need him but that's absurd God is with you always!
For His return. It's also a show of your desire for Him and your passion For Him. You don't NEED to, but it's a good idea to at least attempt to, He can lead you through it.
With all earnestness... There is a latent indication in what you're saying. The fact that this is emphasized in Scripture and absent in the modern church is the answer to your questions. I can say without reservation that I am alive today because of fastings elevation and exaltation (toward Him). The modern church is about reductionistic relationship with God- the lowest common denominator... because of this aversion in what one doesn't "have to do". Do you "have" to pray?
If we don't have to fast like you're saying, then we don't have to pray! This doesn't make sense. Read the passage about the bridegroom. People in Acts did fast!
What would the verses mean then when Jesus says there will come a day when he will not be with us and then we will fast? if it's your understanding then that would never happen.
Adriana Morawietz, In love, I'd like to explain to you how your suggestion that autism can be prayed or fasted away is incorrect and unbiblical. Autism is caused by a difference in the way the brain functions, not evil spirits. Demons do exist and do commit evil deeds in the world, but autism is not caused by demons. Autistic people are beautifully and perfectly made in the image of God - their condition is not a curse, it's who they are. They are loved by Jesus and need Him just as much as those of us who do not have autism. Children do not have autism, or any other congenital disabilities, because of wrongdoing by them or their parents. This truth is clearly explained in the gospel of John. "His disciples questioned Him: “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind? ” “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” Jesus answered. “This came about so that God’s works might be displayed in him." -John 9:2-3. I hope that you grow to better understand and love people who have autism :) Thanks for reading, and have a great day!

What does 'vergan' mean?
We Christians fast to be with God. So instead of doing a normal day activities such as being with our families and eating and going out, we spend this time reading the bible and praying to God.
@@Noname-qz5hg I’m sure its vegan. btw I didn’t mean to offend u or anyone. its your religion and its non of my business...

Oh no I'm not offended at all you didn't say anything offensive 😅
I was just explaining why we fast :)
It's not absurd to honour God
Also if you have an autistic kid u need to fast as these unclean spirits don't go exept by prayer and fasting.
