- Awesome idea to install external mic on any camera that doesn't have any mic input. This is easy to,
1. open your camera
2. find the microphone.
3. de-solder and remove the microphone.
4. Add a 3.5 mm audio input jack

The main problem doing this mod is find the place inside the camera
to fit a 3.5mm audio input jack, if you figure it how to fit then it will be super easy.

I did this to use for riding my motorcycle. It sounds great when i test in indoors but as soon as i start recording for any length of time it randomly gets very distorted, and it isnt wind noise causing the distortion. Any idea? My only thought is the camera isn't sending enough power to the mic.

Hello I see that I have not posted for a long time, I hope you will answer me, I bought an action cam and an external microphone, the mic. it did not have the compatible connection and I bought an adapter for the micro USB type B input but on the other side it was not compatible with the microphone connection ... in short, now I have a micro USB female with its a cable 5 wires and the 2-wire microphone I wanted to connect directly but by connecting the two white micro USB and microphone wire and the other to the black micro USB and microphone side (the one with the bare copper) I did not get anything the action cam does not recognize the external microphone (obviously in the settings I have set external mic.) ... I would not like to make connections at random, so I ask you if you have any advice for me, thanks in advance ✌
Bro , What is your action cam model number and company. to detect mic you need to config micro usb port pin, some camera USE resistance between pin to detect mic. sorry I cant tell you without knowing your action cam model number.
Hi I hope you can reply to my question I have an action camera model: DV8000AW (sport pro) similar to what you show in the video there is no external mic and I cannot do the work you have done I’m not a camera expert and I can’t find in my country (Israel) someone to do this - is it possible to just plug in one of the entries a cable for a mic that suits an iPhone because it’s the same plug and it will work?

@@oraclebjj Yes...the only tricky part is to find proper adapter for your action cam as there are a lot of different adapters over there.
@@oraclebjj I had one fail purchase as I was real dummy. Found the proper adapter here on youtube :). I have Akaso v50 SE.

nvrmnd. it says only for the akaso. A new apeman with two batteries and an ext. mic is $70. might as well get a new one (and have two angles to shoot from : )

A simple extra step would have been to make the socket switch the internal mic so you could still use it without ext mic.
Also glue the socket flush to still use accessories.
For me 3.5 mm mic input is better because the micro usb plug stay free for power bank. Is there a good battery for the sjcam 5000? Orginale only lasts for almost an hour.

1 - 100% you will loose your waranty if you do this

2 - There are much easier ways to use external mics.. like connecting a mic to your phone's recording app, and synchronise them both in editing!
3 - Or use a recording device and then sychronise the sound
!
No need to go through sooo much trouble risking the life of your device..
