Is drawing like this an art or a skill? This is the gold standard for instructional videos NO background music. The reference photo is always in view. And we see the drawing from the same angle the artist does! The artist isn't trying to explain and instruct AS he is drawing ( which is difficult to do properly) ....the video is made and THEN, after it is finished, the artist overlays his audio. Excellent. If the prospect of drawing an entire face ...getting the placements right and the angles right and the proportions right and the curves right, seems daunting, I suggest practicing training your eye on smaller objects: a safety pin. A paper clip, a vase with handles. an open pair of scissors.... anything that has negative spaces. Turn a coffee mug upside down and draw it that way. This forces you to see, not familiar objects, but pure shapes and lines Trust me. When I first started drawing I was very discouraged. But with time, your eye gets trained to see distances and spaces etc.
Superb channel, I love the way you focus on training the artist's eye, knowing what to look for, and all the subtle details that can be 'seen' - thank you.
I really like your Chanel I’m learning a lot! And being inspired by watching, looking at the other artist sketch book and your tutorial really help me improve more!! And first comment yay!
I started giving up on the portrait drawing... no matter how hard i try to learn n practise it s jux a lil improvement. Now im embarking on ur series hoping i ll gain more confidence!
I guess its already 4k people that forgot to press like on this Video, In my opinion your explanation is really clear to understand and there a few important tips that can boost my likeness drawing progress thanks 😀
really appreciate these clear explanations and tutorials -- your critique videos are also super detailed and helpful. It's really wonderful that you make such good quality tutorials freely available online. I'm planning to sign up to become a member of your website to take advantage of the additional resources you offer there as well! On a totally separate note, has anyone ever told you your voice sounds just like Bradley Whitford aka Josh Lyman from West Wing? I swear -- look up any Bradley Whitford video, close your eyes, and have a listen... amiright?
These videos are very informative, it's very valuable to see a master at work. I'm trying to understand what is the secret behind getting the proportions right, I really struggle with it..I just started to draw for fun, so maybe it's a matter of practice? Or should I start by tracing, then use a grill, then measure, then freehand? I see every other method aside freehand like cheating, am I wrong?
In my opinion there is no right and wrong as long as you always practice life drawing. Life drawing without any aides is really the key to mastering how to get proper proportions. Specifically with the model. You can certainly practice using a grid at home in your studio, you can practice tracing, it's just practice. Draw from life, your memory and from photos. That will help you a lot and keep your work balanced.
Sir , your art style is eye catching ...but how can I find my own style...cause i looked at some other artists' style & I found all of them attractive ...there are some subtle differences in every style...whom should I follow !! Could u plzz tell me sir
