I fucking loved this game as a kid, but it took soooooo long to set up, and nobody ever wanted to play with me... Apart from Uncle Steve. He said he was always happy to play with me.
Looking at the set for it nowadays makes it seem so small.. It seemed like such a fun achievement making it to the cheese at the end of mousetrap, watching the marble roll through everything. Definitely a great game for little kids with a fun little device to build, but it hasn't aged particularly world in this digital age. We get exposed to a lot more complex concepts earlier, almost passively.
I've "played" Mousetrap, in that my cousins had it when we were kids and we put the Rube Goldberg device together a bunch of times and made it do its thing. When you're a kid, it's really hard to play a game like that the right way!
Mousetrap simply has zero appeal digitally, its entire gimmick is the convoluted trap, which was very entertaining as a kid. Take that away and you kinda just have a bad boardgame left.
If you boys like this you should trying Grape Escape. It has buildable traps and character pieces made out of play-doh. Object is to escape the factory before everyone else and NOT get squished, squooshed, or juiced but the various traps. Personally I just made the play-doh people and use the traps as torture devices.
You talking about them never changing the design, but there was a time a few years ago where they had a version with a huge toilet in the middle of the board, on top of a pillar. And then it had loads of different pieces to the original, even a loop for the marble-track! So they have changed it up at least once.
As a kid I only played mouse trap once and this video reminds me why I only played it once. Thank god the hat bois are here to make this entertaining. Good job lads.
I got this game for my birthday one year- we played it once. I then decided it would be a great idea to flush one of the cheese wedges down the toilet. Needless to say, it got stuck, and we never played it again.
I'm sure you've heard this before but I reckon you guys would love to give the digital version of Talisman a go with maybe another guest. They made it so that the digital game had a few ways to make sure it goes a little quicker so it might be a good fit for the channel - and, it's another of these 'classic' games.
This is not the Mouse Trap i had as a kid. There was a cheap card frame that got crumpled by the heavy plastic toilet you had to wedge onto it, an elastic powered sweeping brush, a loop de loop that the ball would fly off of, and a few different traps I cant remember, none of which worked because gravity apparently points skyward in my house. If you landed on the spaces, the trap activated. There was no building the traps during the game. And i dont remember what the point of the cheese was. Probably was that out of everyone who made it to the end, the person with the most cheese won.
If you guys want to do a real life version of this where it's just a giant Rube Goldberg machine to kick Smiffy in the balls or something, I'm up for it.
how about giving the game "Monster Prom" a chance. it is a competitive visual novel, in which you try to get a prom date, which takes only an hour to finish.
Oh shit nice, live hatchat? Aweeeesome! I've missed those podcasts dearly Fucking mental you decided to announce that at the end of a mousecrap video though lol
If your'e looking for more bad board games to play online, you might consider "Talisman: Digital Edition". The UI didn't get good reviews, but if the online version is anything like the real game, it might take too long to play.
Yeah, I never played this game as a kid either, it never really made any sense to me, haha, but that game was so entertainingly bad that this video was great, hahaha Also, oh. my. god. Hatchat!?!! Oooooooh, excited :3
There's such a weird set of series' on this channel right now and it's great.
No there isn't. It's basically just one board game after another.
This is classic HatFilms, just annoyed people trowing brittish slang around.

Forgetting his skin in TTT, you are.
Smith with that Smashing Pumpkins reference 👍

Uh, this was garbage
I waited like fifteen minutes expecting a fun little Rube Goldberg sequence and THAT is what we got?

I remember my brother having a demo of this on the PS1
Wow this game was shite. The remix version is baffling.

Chris Trott, no stranger to playing his trap card and painstakingly fitting things through holes.

Live hat chat setup!
wait what was that about hat chat
I honestly would have been pissed, if not for smith explaining what’s going on 👍🏼
This game was worth sitting through just for the hat chat announcement at the end
Missed opportunity to play it with Mousie
99% of the fun of mouse trap is physically building the mousetrap. This helpfully eliminates that.
I enjoyed this a lot but please never play it again
what a great day sums up me watching this
That transition 16 mins In was beautiful
23:15 I believe trott is talking about conkers bad fur day. Excellent game all the way through
I remember building it and mouses trapped but never really knowing the rules
HatChat BACK!! Fucking YEEES!!!
did trott really say he is surprised that no one has built a better mouse trap? isn't "building a better mouse trap" a trope?
these boys have never played pipe dream or bioshock in their lives good lord
There are mousetraps, and then there are _mouse_ _traps_
We need a 50 part series now

Did... did Smith just make a B*Witched reference? I thought that was a band lost in the Disney music crazy of the late 90s.
Wonder why they cut when talking about Hasbro Pack 4... :P
Not sure if we can do game recommendations here but Gremlins Inc, Ultimate Chicken horse and Armello on steam are really good party games.
