- A very unexpected find this one, it used to be a Nursery/Garden Center and closed around 2007. I was surprised to find the shop (which I thought was still open) was now closed also. From Google Earth we could see abandoned cars etc scattered around the site, but we definitely didn’t expect to find a MK1 Golf GTI & a Metro GTA!! I was still using my MK1 GTI with over 180000 on it, shame it's just sitting there, deserves to be out being thrashed like a GTI should be.
I've had a look at the details for the Metro; an 1100cc 1993 model that failed it's MOT on 5th March 2011 with 18 reasons for failure and an additional 6 advisories. It's previous MOT didn't expire until 30th March, so this death trap could well have been on the road for a couple of weeks with issues such as "Nearside Rear wheel bearing has (dangerous levels of) excessive play".
sounds like the MOT mechanic was on a bit of a fiddle .. with that one ..

That Volkswagen is worth some money..its got a brookspeed tuned engine in it..rare as anything on them MK1 Golfs..

One initially may think the Golf is the head turner there. It's not.
The white SUV isn't a Daihatsu Rocky, they were midsize.
That is a russian Lada Niva 1600, possibly from before '85. That is an extremely rare car, which could worth quite a bit.
-It's still in production, and only pre-85 are valuable.
Wow what a shame those green houses are not being used they should allow people who want allotments to use them . And the cars being left to rot thank you for the walk about xx

That metro last mot was 2011 and it failed so bad so much rot ect lol
Have it on good authority that the mk1 Golf Gti was previously owned by the late Mike Lovell who sadly lost his life in 2012 while racing a p1 powerboat. He was a race engineer for Brookspeed in Southampton and owned a mk1 Golf Gti while there. Too much of a coincidence to be a coincidence. @thebeadedexplorer
total msport yes I have been informed about this situation and that the car was his. Family are currently trying to get the car back as far as I know
that metro looks drive able .. you should have taken a look at the inside of it .

Nearly. It's the Niva 1600.
There WAS a Riva 1300, but they were russian Fiat 124 clones, compact sedan with a boot.
Riva/Niva, I'm sure you were thinking of the correct model, those names are so similar.

white vehicle is a Lada Niva jeep a 1.6 petrol it might have been a Cossak & that was the front grill you found, i had 2 over the years my first one i got in 1988 was a lefthand drive both were red with black interior the dash was plastic good when they were running & easy to work on.

As someone who loves going to garden centres, (even if it is to go straight to the clearance!) I found this quite interesting, wonder why those cars got left though, they were all so old.
Go to Brigg garden centre in North Lincolnshire, there's a double decker bus tucked out the back abandoned.

Better off leaving it there too much hassle, cars have been left there for a reason.

I’d just rather not see these pieces of history go to waste. It’d be amazing to see someone pick it up. I’ve got a mk1 golf project of my own. I don’t really need another at the moment although I’d love to take one on. 😂
All in all though, there’s always gotta be some room for someone to take on a golf, right? The cars that still stand after years of use, still going strong. What absolute legends they are.
