      It’s the Wild West for sure, and a reliability run in a Model A. You’d better have a solid car, long ways away from any assistance if you have a breakdown you can’t fix yourself.

      Hello Stephen,
      Yes that is the second longest drive I done in a Model A in a day. Hadn’t wanted to go that far, but when the towns are 100 miles apart, options are limited.
      Thanks for coming long for the ride in this extra long adventure.

    Thank you for taking us along on your very long journey. Great views, and interesting stops along the way. Goes to show what a very well maintained Model A can still do without issue.

      Hello Model Y Ford,
      Yes, that is kinda the main focus of our channel is to show what a Model A can do. They’re not just parade cars. People used them as their only form of transportation for decades. Fix it once, fix it right, enjoy it for life.
      Thank you for your view and comment.

      You need more padding in that seat. I’ll admit 400+ is no fun. About 250 is a nice upper limit.

    Do you have every gas stop picked out ahead of time? "Next Gas 100 miles" without some pre-planning sounds scarier than a clown motel. 4:53.

    • @ModelARickLasCruces

      With cellphones and GPS, it's pretty easy to predict where the gas stops are. But we always have to be careful.

      Your comment had my wife laughing out load. Yes we know every single gas station between Reno and Vegas, because there are only about a dozen. Each town only have one-three, and there aren’t that many town.
      I carry an extra 1.5 gallons, just to help me feel better, but that would not likely get me to the next town if for some reason we had to miss a fill up.

      Yes we heard while in Las Vegas it was officially canceled, as I suspected it would be. But we already had reservations for the next couple nights, so we’ve continued eastward and will veer off to Colorado instead of New Mexico. Still on a Model A adventure, just the destination has changed.
      Thank you for your comment.

    About six cars from our local club are going down. Unfortunately, now that it has been cancelled, they will have a week in Albuquerque, NM till they head back to do the Durango train on 7/1. I on the other hand did not win and I had to get a U-Haul and tow home. 786 miles.

    Please share what steering box you are using in your model a. I have an f100 in m
    y 32 roadster and I a lo more play in my steering than you seem to.

    • @modelajim1930
      @modelajim1930  5 місяців тому +1

      My Model A steering is 100 percent stock. I have the box adjusted fairly tight to eliminate the play. It does make it more of a workout to drive, but pick your poison. Stiff steering no play or more play and loose steering.

    That's a long way at 45-50, plus stopping and drive by shots- and 90 degree heat. Any irritated tailgaters?
    Hawthorne seems to be slowly ghosting also. Tribal Casinos in Calif have decimated border casinos... Montgomery Pass on 6 is a latter day ghost town.
    I enjoyed the vid!

      We always try to yield to faster-moving traffic, but there always to be a tailgater of lookie-lou that gets too close for comfort.

      So far we’ve been mostly greeted with waves and smiles. Traffic through central Nevada is relatively light, and lots of opportunities to pass. So far so good.
      We have emergency flashers attached to the rear bumper so people can see from a ways back we’re a slower moving vehicle. They seem to help keeping people from being surprised when they fly up behind us.

      Hi James,
      Yes we learned of the fires on Monday night, we were hoping with five days until the event they’d be under control. But when we saw how big they had gotten by Tuesday night, we figured the event would be cancelled. We already had hotel reservations for the first couple nights so we continued and are now heading to Colorado instead. Thanks for watching, greatly appreciate
      it.

    So sorry, but I honestly don't think they are letting anyone but residents into Ruidoso today. I highly doubt they are going to have that there. During a news conference on Saturday, June 22, Ruidoso Mayor Lynn Crawford pulled no punches about the long road to recovery, saying it could be “five or six years” before residents see a full recovery for the town. Right now I know many churches, clubs, and companies here in Las Cruces are sending relief for those who have lost their homes and livelihoods. If your group is still planning on arriving there, it would probably be nice if you could some sort of relief. They need EVERYTHING from diapers, food, clothing, etc. Thank you. BTW the drive was really pretty to watch.

      Hello,
      Yes, we found out the convention was cancelled on Tuesday June 18th. We veered northward towards Colorado. We’re homeward bound now. We are praying for Ruidoso, and sorry we didn’t get to see it before the destruction, we heard fantastic things from many people. Hope the recovery is faster than predicted, and we get the chance to visit the paradise soon.

    Jim, how far can you go on a tank of Gas ?

    • @ModelARickLasCruces
      @ModelARickLasCruces 5 місяців тому

      Most Model A's get between 15 and 25 mpg, so with about 10 gallons of gas, about 150-250 miles. My 1931 Tudor gets about 17mpg and the 1930-31 tanks hold about 11 gallons, so I go about 150 miles and then gas up.

    • @modelajim1930
      @modelajim1930  5 місяців тому

      At the speed we’re traveling we’ve been getting 15.6 mpg. 15.6 x11 gallons = 171 miles of range.

  • @deanjernstrom3760
    @deanjernstrom3760 5 місяців тому +2

    More great video. The most we get out of a tank is about 130 miles. Approximately what's the max you get out of a tank? I'm looking forward to seeing more videos from your trip. Thx

    • @modelajim1930
      @modelajim1930  5 місяців тому +1

      Hello Dean, I’ve been tracking our mileage on the trip, through Nevada we got 15.6 miles per gallon (171 miles per tank). That’s driving fairly consistently at 45-50 mph.
      From Vegas to Flagstaff we didn’t fair as well, getting only about 13-14, but lots of steep grades and a headwind, and having my foot into it to “try” to stay up with traffic on I-40
