I remember taking these trains 11 years ago. Back then you had a bar where everyone was super hammered and everyone ended up hanging out of a driving train. Crazy times!
You are very lucky to have the opportunity to travel by train at Hua Lamphong Railway Station as this station will be closed in November. After that, the train will be moved to Bang Sue Central Station instead.
Hua Lamphong Railway Station, which is over 100 years old, will become a legend of Thailand. And be the legend of your travel experience in Thailand this time.
I wish you a happy journey.
We had no idea it was closing until a man in the station struck up conversation and told us. Lucky indeed. There were so many people around taking pictures. I'm so glad we went before it closed!
Thank you for the the nice wishes 😊
@@OnePackWanderers There is a Thai proverb that says "Parties have their days off." ( Ngān leī̂yng ỳxm mī wạn leikrā ) All that's left are good memories.

Chinese yuan wins again, a sad decline of for this fine old station, I think the old king would kick the arse of his retarded son for not being a king .this country has a kiss of death for anything it touches. So sad, even Bali looks like a nice place, next year?
always always always take food when you travel on planes/trains/busses ! and snacks!! haha tip for tall people if you put a pillow under your knee/calf area it will raise ur legs up a little and give u some more foot room! or u can sleep on your side! another tip! if ur really cold even just placing another piece of clothing near your stomach and hugging it helps retain heat! also the extra pillow would have been great to do this with
This time is Thailand s winter season. The Northern and N/E regions are good for travel. 19 Nov this year is Loi Kratong Festival,Chiang Mai is the top 10 of the festival. I hoped you enjoy the trip.
Thanks for the tips! We went to the festival and it was incredible 😊
Chiang Mai is nicknamed in Thai, “The Rose of the North” … welcome to Thailand, and enjoy your time in Thailand.
We can see why. Chiang Mai is so beautiful and relaxed. Really nice city. And thank you for the welcome!
Thank you for this vid. Made me miss Chiang Mai, one of my favorite cities I’ve been to. I went in 2019, took the plane from BKK to CM, then took the 13-hr sleeper train from CM back to BKK. I honestly prefer the sleeper train if one has a lot of time during travel. The bathroom was decent, not the best and most comfortable, but it was okay. They also served food in the train when I went. Overall, sleep was comfortable and the seats were spacious.
Yes, definitely agree! We always travel trains when there’s the option. Such a nice way to see things 😄
In my experience almost all overnight trains get cold in Asian countries. I always have a hoody and a bunch of snacks for any train ride longer than a couple hours long in Asia. Happy Travels
Wise thing to do! We’ll definitely be more aware of that from now on
I love the train. It’s been like 4 years since my last ride. Would be good to try also bangkok to nong khai border close to Laos. One of a great experience.
Will definitely keep that one in mind. Trains are such a nice way to travel.
Hi guys, I highly suggest going to the "Loy Krathong" Festival coupled with "Yeepeng Lantern" Festival at night in Chiang Mai and then walk along the night markets nearby. The festivals will be on tomorrow night (19 Nov). If you guys are going there, be sure to get there early in the evening since they are limiting the number of people getting inside the festival at one time (sort of covid prevention policy), and please look after your valuable things just in case, because there will be lots and lots of people, both nice and not-so-nice. Enjoy Chiang Mai you guys!!!
Thank you for the excellent information! We went last night, and it was really a great experience! 😊
I found your channel and had to subscribe.
Nice editing and content. Such a fun and cute couple. I'll be there soon.
Safe traveling. Cheers!
Thank you! That's very kind.
Hope you have a fun, safe trip as well 😊
What lovely happiness and joy - never stop smiling!
Amazing Thailand very beautiful 😍🌏

Oh my gosh, how have I never seen your videos before. I'm about to binge all of them.
Well hey, thank you so much for the compliment and we're really glad you enjoy the videos! 😊
planning on taking the same sleeper train to chang mai , glad to see that there running again / still
from wat i heared its the place to be for woodcraft and watching artist make verry intricate stuff out of verry pretty types of wood
allready suspected that the beds would be short i'm a little taller still so i guess i need to pack a wedge shaped backpack to be able to get some shuteye , might want to pack a sweater or hoody too
wondering how mush you paid for the hotel , and if its near the woodcraft market , it seems pretty nice
That train station is closing down in December. They will still do sleeper trains but they will be from a different location in Bangkok.
The Chiang Mai hotel is called Thapae Loft and it is very nice. A little less than $20/night. Not sure if it's close to the woodcraft market, but Chiang Mai is pretty small and easy to get around.
There's also first class overnight bus from Chiang-Mai to Bangkok (and vice-versa) which cost around 800 THB/person too incase you two want to try something different on your way back to Bangkok
Hope you two enjoy your time in CNX : )
This is a GREAT tip, I think we will take that bus for sure. We haven't taken an overnight bus yet 😄
I saw that bus from UA-cam bid somewhere, so beautiful color, very cozy looking!!
Beautiful view from the window, we took the train from Bangkok to Hat Yai such a fun experience.
Definitely one of the best ways to travel. So much better than airplanes, especially!
@@OnePackWanderers Airplanes are much faster but the experience in a train is different. I think the better your seat the better the ride 😊😊😊
Our grandfather said you were very lucky. which has used the country's oldest station With a lot of history and architecture, as long as 105 years, in a few months the new station will be launched. The station here will rest. We love you both from Thailand.
We knew it was being retired, but we did not know it was Thailand’s oldest station! We are very lucky indeed to have been there.
Can't hardly wait to watch your new vdo . I love train too but not much often to go now ( Bangkok Railway Station build more than 100 year ago very sorry that This will be Close and Build some Tall building instead )
There were a lot of people at the station taking pictures. Seems sad that they are closing it, it is a nice station.
Awesome
Hualamphong station will be close within end of this year. Hope you enjoy everywhere.
Very nice train trip, never been to Thailand before but I see the style of sleeper cars are pretty much the same as here in North America, lower seats come together and the top bunk swings down, same on Canadian Via trains, using vintage 1954 refurbished sleeper cars :)
"Old school Tripadvisor"! Omg, hahahahaha. I loved that! I saw a Decathlon store behind you in Chiang Mai - they're the best - surprised there's one there. Loving Thailand!
He probably had 200 reviews in that book, and that's somehow much more impressive than 200 reviews on TripAdvisor!
Thanks for the tip on Decathlon. We actually need a couple things for our backpacks soon, so awesome to know that.
Wow very nice trip to CHIANG MAI. i also visited there in 2016
Enjoyed watching your journey as there is nothing like overnight train journeys. Also, particularly enjoyed the "old school trip advisor" comment; hard to believe that there was a time before this modern tool but the actual written word might have been one of them.
Haha it is interesting how quickly that has changed. It wouldn't be weird to see a 'guestbook' like he had only 20 years ago. Somehow it made all the good reviews more impressive. Very nice man.
I'm from Chiang Mai It is recommended that you rent a motorbike, it is more convenient and cheaper than renting a car in general. Welcome to Chiang Mai
Hi very nice for today
Uncle P’s notebook is so sweet.
It was really impressive. Maybe 150-200 hand-written positive reviews? He had so much charisma!

So sad. I've been traveling to Hua Lum Pong like 50 years time. It's been a great pleasure to travel right uin the heart of Bangkok. A lot of memory's here.
There were many people around the station taking pictures. We are very lucky to go there before it closes. It seems like Hua Lum Pong is a better location than the new station? But we can't say for sure because we don't know Bangkok that well.
@@OnePackWanderers Correct. Hua Lum Pong is only 5 minutes walk to Yaowarj street or pretty close to Golden Bjudda Temple. it's thye real downtown of Bangkok 60 years ago.
So Sad Your Saying Goodbye To Bangkok. Here Comes Chiange Mai. Mystery Food Looked Yummy.. Really Liked Seeing This Old Train Station. Some 1 Was So Excited To See The Train Leave.. Train Seemed Great For $$. I Can Not Sleep On Train & Even Airplanes. Great Taxi river. Yum On 2nd Breakfast. I Enjoyed This Video So Very Much. Train Is Landing
We were sad to say goodbye to Bangkok, but I have a feeling we will be back again before we leave Thailand. I'm really glad you enjoyed the video 😊
That floating balls are fried tofu , and that dish is called Kuay-jab😋
Thanks for letting us know 😅 It tasted really good but we weren't sure what it was 🤔
Believe it or not. I boarded such overnight train to Chiangmai only once when I was 60, 9 years ago just for the experience. Normally I go by bus which is faster or plane which is even faster and costs just a little more due to low-cost airlines coming to Thailand 2 decades ago. The sleeping compartment is designed for regular height passenger, someone not over 190 cm should be fine.
Wow! What did you think of the train? We much prefer it over airplanes as a way of travel. It takes a lot longer but the views and experience are worth it, I think.
Yes it's a nice ride especially in the morning thru the mountains the engine pitch changing with the gradient but the buffet car is alcohol free thank you prayut, what a progressive thinker, like an old nun wonders why no visitors
For tall persons, you can fold the backrest up and put your feet on it when you sleep.
Great video and thanks for sharing. Miss Chiang Mai already :,(
During this situation there aren't many tourists so early check-in and late checkout is possible, just ask.
My name is citehman and I can’t stop goggling Chiang Mai images. It has been 3 minutes since my search for “ great hikes near Chiang Mai “. 🙈
Hahaha did you find some cool ones? We'd like to get out and hike while we're here 😄
Tia smiles too much, it’s becoming a problem for me as I am unable to stop watching your videos because of it. Thanks for visiting us, guys.
So nice Chiang Mai I wonder next yrs February borders open. I was thinking cycling 🚴♀️ there a lot mountain ,nice video Twos of you how much the cost tickets from Bangkok to Chiang Mai thanks 🙏
Hopefully the borders open more to make travel easier.
The sleeper train tickets were about $30/1000 baht per person.
Thanks for sharing nice vdo, i like that food court at Siam Center variety of foods there. The train suite class is so awesome. Enjoy the trip.
It’s so easy to find great food in Thailand. Thank you for the well wishes 😄
Thank god, you guys used spoons for eating rice, not fork! ❤️
Would love some chicken with rice and "guay chup" (pork noodle soup) right now. They look delicious. The fried tofu is part of the pork noodle soup. I was a little surprised as well about the cold chicken when we went to visit family back in Bangkok. My relative told me that the chicken is suppose to be room temperature while the rice is hot. It is not that way in the Thai restaurants in the US however.
Definitely! It was tasty, just unexpected 😅 We've noticed a lot of Thai food in the US tastes different. I think it is adjusted for US preferences. It's almost always delicious though 😊😄
Hi there, just wondering where your sandals are from? Look like they are perfect for travels! :)
Hey! They’re from a company called Luna. Very nice and compact for travel, and also more durable than regular flip flops!
I don't know about that sleeper for folks that are tall. You guys are too funny. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
If I was any taller it would've been a very rough night. Laying diagonally it wasn't too bad.
Good
Love the vlog guys! "One pack wanderers" I see you're both using the Columbia backpacks. Have you done a video on these backpacks? Are you liking them? Ok to store laptops while moving/traveling? Enough space for your adventures? Really interested in your thoughts. I think I found the one on the Columbia website. ?Street Elite™ Convertible 36L Duffel Pack?? There's a great black Friday price now, and I want to know your thoughts. Thanks and safe travels always! 🤙
Yep, you found the right one!
They are excellent backpacks. Very durable and also water resistant which is nice. They’re a really great size for us, and we have no issues fitting our (13”) laptop.
I miss Chiangmai too much
Are you from there? It's a beautiful place, one of the most beautiful we've seen.
I don't understand why U guys couldn't by anything to eat on the train I been on the Train many times maybe because of covid and U guys could have slept together on the bottom bunk I have done that many times hope U guys are having the best time I can't wait to get back cheers Larry
I’m pretty it had to do with Covid. There was a guy from Thailand sitting across from us that also didn’t bring food because he was expecting food sellers on the train 😅
Cheveyo needed all the space he could get on the bottom bunk 🤣😂
So cute you guys🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭
How do you like yalls bags? are they waterproof?
Rice with chicken It call Kaw man Kai
the floating ball in the soup is the fried tofu.
hi, where did you guys bought the ticket for the train? online or at the counter?
Hello. We bought the tickets online from Thailand’s official rail website.
@@OnePackWanderers thank you! Hope I can find the right link. Thanks a lot guys!
Please beware over Weigh when you across the rules at Upper floor of Train BKK- CNX.
So was there foods selling on the train? Never mind you guy answer this at the end. Cheer
I've taken that train before. The first 3 hours flew by. The rest was torture.
Did you need to prove any covid vaccination papers to board the train or a negative covid test?
Oddly enough, we had to show vaccination papers when disembarking. Not when boarding though.
@@OnePackWanderers Damn there goes my travel plans, looks like i'm stuck in Chiang Mai forever.
Chicken is supposed to be cold but not the rice. It is a dish called chicken rice.
" .... does anyone experienced, if it is possible to get the chicken extra micro-waved for about 5 minutes ... "
The length of the bed probably 6'5" (195cm).
good to know about the size thing xD I'm 187cm according to my passport, might have grown a bit since, that's about 6'2". I suspect I wouldn't fit xD. About checking into a hotel early, that has most often not really been a problem with the hostels I've been to, some hotels might do it differently but that is super rare.
Yep, it would be a very tight fit for you 😂 With the hotels/hostels, we've had luck checking in at 12-1 but were skeptical about 9am. We probably shouldn't have been
@@OnePackWanderers I arrived at a hostel before 7 once, before breakfast, and they just let me join the breakfast too!

G'day mates. Did you catch a sleeper train from Bkk to Ayutthaya? ❤❤❤
Just a regular passenger train from BKK to Ayutthaya. We did take a sleeper train from BKK to Chiang Mai, though :)
@@OnePackWanderers I have been to Chaing MAI heaps of times. I wish i could have slept the whole time.
@@OnePackWanderers Why did you go ' regular train?' You are NOT regular people.
👍👌💖
Wait, are you two a couple or gay man with his plutonic friend? I know its person but just trying to get the gist of this channel
Those trains can get so cold 😂! We slept terribly on the older train but this train wasn't so bad. Strange that there was no food, there usually are people in between stops selling all sorts!. Enjoy CM!
You have to go back to get on the new train and tell the ticket seller that you don't take the room that matches the wheels of the train, haha.
Maybe it's a Covid thing? Or being a night train. Not too sure, but no food sellers 😅 You guys lived in Chiang Mai for a bit, right?
@@OnePackWanderers definitely could be, or they were all taking the day off 😂😅 We did yeah, for about 3 months! A really lovely city 😍
Normally they had the dinner box and a drink for the passengers (the fried rice is so goood!) So I think it’s because of the Covid so they stop providing the food.
Because of Covid-19, a lot of people will by some snacks or food before boarding.
