I have tried so many times over the years to get mame working. Your video helped me to successfully get everything working and introduced me to launchbox. You're the best
Very well presented and helpful. I'm interested in this and Raspberry Pi as well. I just have to see if these can be merged so I can do this tutorial on a Pi. Or if there's another way I have to do it. Guess I'll need to browse your other videos to see.
oh no I still fail I follow your video in 18:29 the new Mame, there is a more item called" full set version" I have input my version "0.248" and it stated that "the specified does not contain a full MAME ROM set"
Hi. You need to point the import process at a folder with your full mame rom set files. If these are zipped up into a single download file you'll need to unzip them to the individual game zip files.
Hi there! I've just downloaded videosnaps for using in mame. Does someone knows where i should place the folder so i can watch the gameplay videos in the frontend, aside the snapshots and extras? Thanks in advance
Hi. If you want to boot directly to a game you'll need to play around with the start options in Windows. Launchbox and BigBox have options to auto start on boot but this will take you to their menu screens. If you create a task in the Task Scheduler you'll be able to run a command line command to autostart Mame with a specific game. You'll need to search on Google to find out how to do this.
Hello I've followed the instructions but there is no download link on archive . org i can see all the game but no download for anything could you help me please it's for the latest Mame 0.239 many thanks
On archive.org sometimes there isn't a link to download everything in one file. The one you've found might only let you download games individually. Have a look for another listing. You might have to drop back a version or two to find the full download.
I have download MAME and game's rom all files contain 2h, 3h 4h, 2k 3k 4k.................files it doesnt work how can use mame to play the game? it there anything wrong? they always files 2h, 3h 4h, 2k 3k 4k....
Hi. I don't know. If it has a PC or Raspberry Pi inside running some sort of emulator software I can't see why not. I guess you'll need to be able to plug in some sort of controller and keyboard etc to get it loaded and running.
Hi. Sorry, work has been a bit hectic lately and yes, I've got a new full coding course on the way. I should get back into videoing this weekend. See you soon.
Awesome Tutorial! ...I have an arcade type machine - with a coin slot. Will replace the proprietary computer inside with a PC, and install the way you explain in this video. My question : is there a way I can make the games function using the coin ? .... like the 80s - you insert a coin, only then the game starts. Thanks!
Hi. I'm sure there is a way. Basically Mame uses a button press to simulate the coin slot. You need to look for a coin slot (or wire up your existing one) to generate this button press. I expect you can buy these. Or if your coin slot uses some sort of mechanical switch or relay output you should be able to wire this into your button controller board.
Hi. As long as you have a ROM set you'll be fine. If you can't find the latest set use the best one you can find and install the matching version of MAME.
Unfortunately I can't give out direct links - UA-cam gets very angry if you do! But the Internet Archive website has lots of useful information about where to get Mame Romsets from.
Superb upload without hearing "go ahead and..." like you do from every single American uploader... Only problem I'm having is that my old pc I'm going to use for mame is Windows 7 ultimate 32bit and there's only 64bit download available. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Hi. You'll need to use an older version. Have a look at www.mamedev.org/oldrel.html and just scroll down. Make sure you get hold of a ROM set that matches the one you use.
@@BytesNBits Thanks. Having a nightmare with launchbox.. Keeps trying to install version 12 which doesn't work with my windows 7. May just stick with launching from mame instead. Thanks anyway. ☺
@@RoadcraftNottingham Hi. LaunchBox don't provide access to older versions and the main download is supposed to cope with most setups. There are alternatives like Batocera, etc. you could try. They all work in a fairly similar way. Batocera is Linux based but you can run it from a USB drive so you don't need to alter anything on your PC.
@@BytesNBits Thanks. I've found mame 0.180 works well but can't find which button on the ui menu selects the game in the menu on my cocktail cabinet. I have to press "enter" on the keyboard. Also in the ui, which is the fire button in settings? Thanks
@@RoadcraftNottingham Hi. The MAME interface isn't very controller friendly. My A button seems to select games but I need the keyboard to get the escape key to exit. If you're using a cabinet design I'd have a go with Batocera as you can try it out without having to rebuild the PC. I'm making a video in using it with the Raspberry Pi in a week or so. I've been testing it and it looks very good.
I had to stop video. Must be simplier way. Just blinding us with science. Rom Version > Compatable Games don't have to have every game on the planet. Short and to the point so people can download and play.

Wow back to back videos,nice!
Glad you like them!
mame was such a big part of my childhood omg can't wait to get it again
Great. Get the code installed and start playing.
Just installed Mame and over a hundred roms on my computer, awesome sauce. Just played as Razor on WWF Arcade in remembrance.
Great! You're in for some fantastic gaming!
@@BytesNBits yeah now I just need to build a dedicated emulation pc with a video card with analog out to connect to my Sony crt.
Hi could you please help me, from where I can download the rooms games... safety. Please help
Love your videos as much as I love classic arcade games, thanks
Thanks. Have fun!
Thank you for the step by step instructions. Really made things easier. Thanks!

Wholeheartedly agree with this!!
hey thanks mr bytes and bits . not installed mame yet but this vid will be very helpful . thank you

Awesome, thank you!
thank you for making this video. i'm downloading launch box now.
Hope you enjoy it!
Thanks for this detailed information.
No problem. Enjoy the games!
Really nice video, well planned and thought out. Explanations considered and well presented. Subscribed & looking forward to new videos.
Thanks
I have collected arcade cabinets but the alcohol took over it’s my last day of drinking 19 January thanks great video
Good luck

Hi. Sorry I've not tried that.
is there to play the FAST AND FURIOUS TOKYO DRIFT and HYDRO THUNDER arcade game?on mame? or is it not possible.
If the game roms are in the rom sets they should work. I don't know when these games were released. Mame tends to be for older games.
I want to make my own machine that can play only one rom file and stay on just like the original arcades can I use this same method

Can i install manualy single mame roms to my mame ,?? Cause i dont want massive rom packs but rather install them manualy 1by1
Hi. Yes. Just copy the ROM files into the correct folder and MAME should pick them up when you restart.
Where can you find current (.235) MAME sets? Everything on Archive looks old.
Archive.org is the place to look. Try going down the version numbers until you find a good download. I think I managed to get one for 0.234.
So when you click the view comments on the Ad5et file it doesnt display any download options

Yes. It will work fine for most of the games. Some of the later games may run a bit slower but in general you'll be fine.
