GERNE BLANSTON RULES!!! Friends call him......GERNE! A notoriously famous Man....An elusive and Mysterious spectacle of a Man!!! And, only one pair of shoes will do!!!!...The CRUEL SHOES!!!! Thank you Mr. Claypool and, also, to Mr. Steve Martin. Thanks to Gerne! My life was forever changed on Halloween night, Radford, Va....'72 VWBus, blustery snow, howling winds, lysergic lyrical loveliness and PORK SODA burned' to memory! WOW!
Never forget the first time i heard Primus, i was 10(1995) and my dad came home and had a few cds and i asked about them and he told me one of the bands was incredible and like nothing he had ever heard. My dad was an incredible musician btw so for him to say that held weight. We listened to Sailing the Seas of Cheese and i remember hearing Tommy the Cat and both of us were mindblown lol. My dad loved Primus, Ted Nugent, Frank Zappa...and mushrooms 😂
Thank you for posting!! This was a great show. The opening act was Mirv. Which one of the singer/guitarists played in The Holy Mackeral. Les Claypool anounced that Brain would be the new drummer for Primus. Really cool to see this again.
Yeah, was lucky enough to see them in Petaluma in 1998. Les was dressed as a priest, MIRV & Adam had the monk thing going on, and Brian was wearing a nun's habit throughout. Buckethead even jumped on stage for about a minute and a half and then disappeared!
I was there.I can't remember was opening act ? The lead singer had a white strat and a 20 lb chain /padlock around his neck. I bought their cassette, Lost many years ago... They were really good too.
Right On! I was at that show, it's funny, I had 2 tickets and couldn't find someone to go with me? I had a killer time still! Thanks so much for sharing this vid! This wasn't filmed by a "cell phone". lol
I was here/ there and just loved it. I bought a cassette from the opening band. The lead singer had a white Squire strat and a fat chain with a big padlock on it around his neck. Then Mirv came on and then the main act. They were quite good. Anybody remember their name ? Yes, I lost the cassette
awesome, just simply fuckin awesome. i never thought in all my 15 years of existence and thoughts of turnips that such a video of enjoyment and holy mackerelness and el sobrante fortnight live could exist. My day has been made.
Sounds like a few of these songs were borrowed to make the Brown Album which came out the following year. Some are more obvious than others. Holy Mackerel has some passing similarities to Renegade The bassline to George E Porge bassline sounds like Fisticuffs but the Vocals sound like Hats Off Running the Gauntlet is Over the Falls El Sobrante Fortnight bassline is very similar to Golden Boy
The Holy Mackerel band was one of Les's best projects. First saw him play with Blind Illusion, pre-Primus. Damn I feel olde...

Yes! This was the only Les side project that I never caught. Thanks for sharing.
I saw Holy Mackeral only once, I count myself very lucky. Such an awesome band. Les Claypool and MIRV? fuck yeah

The only one I missed was Oysterhead.
I saw Oysterhead, I would have much rather caught a Holy Mackerel show... I really like what Les has done with Sean Lennon tho.
A massive sackful of gratitude for this.
I love how Les keeps getting In the way during Brains solo
One of my all time favorite albums.
Thank you for posting this!
Stoked to see this. I had the privilege of seeing this show at the Phoenix in Petaluma
Thank u kindly

Disagree entirely
I fully support your right to be wrong. But if you dont hear Over The Falls in Running the Gauntlet then you are either deaf, retarded or both.
I've been born again.
I was 33. Where the hell was I? Thanks for posting. Obviously I wasn’t in Tempe, AZ. Couda, woulda shoulda been. Damn

This is almost as good as any Primus. Frog Brigade is amazing too but Holy Mackerel might have been the best
Ok wtf was that weird behind kinda the scenes @ 38 min mark, dude was using his face to coerce sound....I'm not the only 1 whom witnessed that

Why bother making a crap recording when you could just enjoy the gig?
Because doing both is way better
You idiot, now a whole new generation gets to experience a concert from 1996 with great sound quality, and you complain about it
If he didn’t record this, I wouldn’t have listened to this 40+ times in the past 2 weeks
