I have been saying the same thing. This movie is definitely the best RE fillm we have gotten so far. And I've never watched an RE film twice in one week. A 7/10 for me.

"Old" people like me who discovered the first resident evil in the late 90s remember that the characters we played were fragile. I finished several times the first 3 games on ps1, but how many times did I get killed? Chris, Jill, Claire and Leon have never been john wick/neo/legolas and other invincible characters who kill hundreds of enemies in a row. What scared us in resident evil was our weakness. If we loved Claire, Jill, Leon and Chris, it's because we were afraid for them.
Yes, but today's audience/players don't want the frustrations of reality. They want excitement, fantasy, victory. Getting your ass handed to you 50x on one boss or area, or having film characters be out for the count after a few punches would make for a complaining fan base.
I played RE2 and 3 remakes and you still had the fear for them. The films are different of course, but hey I enjoy them still. I thought the first Live action film with Mila actually fit the bill of what you are talking about. The rest after did not.

I love the fact they had Jill mentioned what happened to her to Resident Evil 5 because I always what happpend to JIll after that game. It would nice to have JIll in a game again because for some reason she gets overlooked. No more Leon or Chris for awhile they are way overused characters.

Yet the lack of will and effort on behalf of Claire to contact Leon really says between lines that she don’t like/trust him.
