Hey guys, sorry for the lack of a Hyperion Crew vod today. Was dealing with the "Super helpful" customer "Service" from our friends at Comcast Xfinity. Everything seems good now though, so we are back in action!
I know you weren't saying anything bad about the individual who came to give you service, but in a lot of cases they're way overloaded and legitimately trying to help people. They're not responsible for the company's messed-up decisions. I always believe that by treating them well we can all make the world a little bit of a better place. You're stressed because something is wrong, they're stressed because they have five other clients across the state to get to today, and it's 2 PM, and we can all make each other just that little bit happier by being nice to each other.
Kinda wish when units are warped in they have their side upgrades like marines with combat shields and stuff like that just because of the Protoss already having theirs.
Would it be OP to have the morph button on certain units? like the hydralisk to lurker/impaler, zergling to baneling or mutalisk to viper/brood lord, surely you would need the money for the morph, but hey, what do you think?
I think it might be too much work on the mod creator but I would love to see an upgrade system like on the Hyperion Crew mod where you can get individual upgrades per unit Edit: @JollyGreenWizard - didn't see your comment before posting lol
ive read the thumbnail and yes it should play the item box sound , would be hilarious and now its playing every warp in too q.q never thought that jingle would annoy me
Just had an idea for a lotv mod in a similar vein to hyperion crew. Introduce faction diplomacy and as you gain or lose favour with the factions their units get stronger / weaker at certain thresholds and maybe they even restrict you from using higher tier units altogether. Ways to gain favour might include keeping the faction units alive and 'rescuing' corrupted units. Instead of just straight up fighting amon's corrupted races, you have to sever nerve cords/remove/disable mobius implants... something else with zerg? When they're liberated the units join your forces and contribute to faction favour in some way. So if you sacrifice lots of nerazim and don't save any they might only let you build basic DTs. Basically the ratio of units produced/units killed for the faction needs to be high to keep favour with them and get access to their better units. Maybe the units themselves also improve with higher favour to reflect the factions giving you access to their best warriors once they know you are more likely to keep them alive. E.g at higher favor with nerazim, DTs are approaching zeratul levels of power but cost accordingly more resources and/or supply to produce.
It's an interesting idea but considering you're talking about four protoss factions (and the purifiers have this whole thing about being expendable shells for an AI) I'm not really sure how that could work as you're describing. I mean, the whole storyline is basically built around the concept of gaining favor with the purifiers and tal'darim anyway, with the nerazim and aiur factions already being loyal. And none of the protoss give a rat's ass about saving zerg or terrans. You'd need some variation on a mercenary compound to directly utilize the terrans, and I really don't see a way to save or utilize the Zerg, who naturally operate as a hivemind.
"Should the Spear of Adun play the Mario Kart Item Box Noise when rolling for a New Ability" - YES!!! I did not know this was something I needed until I saw it.
When I switched from Comcast, our new internet service provider came out to our house to install the new router. The technician walked up to the cord and barely touched it and the cord fell out of the wall. The technician was amazed that we had been getting internet at all.
I think we might need cloaked units next. As you said, they could be used to wheese you way through some missions, but as you've seen several times already, the random aspect can be really brutal, and having a backup solution can be neat.
I'm thinking you should go to Korhal first and save Shakuras for last because I think Last Stand would be more interesting to play if you had more options to play with
It would be amazing if the Spear of Adun abilities included some from coop as well, or maybe some from heroes (like Kerrigan's Apocalypse), so we get a mix of Terran, Zerg and Protoss abilities Also: The Nexus should be able to create random workers (even Mules!). I guess it might be really hard to have SCVs make protoss structures.... but maybe not?
I find it cool that the weaker roach option of Hots is currently the highest roll possible in a randomiser in the same tier as marauders, stalkers, hydras or even the vile roach itself
That's mainly because you don't have access to Zealots(Sentinels and Centurions, let's be true here) or Zergles(Raptors (who in their right mind would build Swannlings)) as a mineral dump otherwise dem Corpsers'd be weak
Get the robots, why hide in fear of being found when you can make the enemy hide in fear of being found. Besides that I think that robots will offer a more interesting micro challenge by the sheer diversity in the pool.
pick randomly between Korhal and Shakuras, since this is the randomizer :D to be serious, the random army is weaker than Lotv army as you said, so stalling Shakuras as much as possible is maybe a good strategy.
I have no idea why the Comcast story slayed me as hard as it did, well that's a lie, I know why, because it was probably the closest to accurate description of them I've heard in a long time.
That does actually make me wonder: Firebats fighting against zealots in a choke (which is not something we see that often) - would the firebat actually trade in a cost-efficient manner?
I think this mission is “weirdly hard” just because you’re always really determined to make it fast paced instead of turtling. (And I don’t want that to change because it makes you much more fun to watch, just want to say that turtling with static d into a giant death ball trivializes the mission.)
Personally a fun mod idea is units not actually being buildable in missions, but rather existing units gain exp and level up. Like how in the game Terran units can rank up (corporal->general->elite or whatever) their damage and hp increases as well, resulting in a team of highly capable super strong units with a low body count marching into battle. Probably already done but I've never seen it before
I'd love to see Shakuras. I'm curious to see what kind of randomization will happen with the DTs there. Also it's better to just get the temple defense out of the way.
in my opinion though, corpser strain roach really is one of the best units in its tier, like damn, i mean its gonna fall flat several missions later, but rn its a godsend
Okay before even watching the video-ABSOLUTELY YES the Spear of Adun should make Mario Cart noises. Not too loud, but oh boy that would tie it together! Failing that for copyright reasons or whatever, go with slot machine noises!
I strongly believe this mission is designed around the use of cannons and shield batteries to protect your base while you clear with your army. You apparently have a thing about static defense. Not sure what it is, but you almost never build any. I have the opposite problem. I build too much static defense.
if this mission isnt cheesed is actually quite nice, because you are literally being chased off of the planet and just scramble to get the spear of adun ready
It may be good to allow shield batteries to restore health of non-photos units at something like 50% efficiency, as I think it may otherwise make the protons buildings much worse than the campaign was designed for.
Honestly my complaint about stealth is the opposite, you unlock the DT and then literally every mission has enough detection to make them irrelevant, relegated to base defence at best
Okay, I know it might be a huge issue but I would love it if the randomizer could apply itself to the portrait in the build queue or the shadow from the warp gate before you build a unit. It would be so much easier to plan for with just a little advance warning of what's coming up.
Couple things I noticed: The gateways/warp gates group cooldown is not displayed as normal (You can't tell from alot of warp gates selected how many charges are available) The Highlight tooltip for warping in units always displays as Stalkers or Zealots, despite the unit being a random unit. It'd be nice if it displayed as the tier name. Otherwise, amazing! Although I do wish there was more variation of units, the tier pools seem small..
Would have been great if spear of Adun abilities could also swap between some coop top bar abilities. Of course, not all of them would be here since some wouldn’t fit well (rip magnetic mines) but some like space station relocation in the last ability spot could work, etc.
Yeah that's one thing I didn't like about the SC2 campaign either. What's the point of taking the trouble to wipe out the enemy base when the AI gets reinforcements from off the map anyway?
IDEA: Would it be possible to make the static defense randomized? I.E. you make a cannon, you could get a railgun turret, or a battery could become a bunker.
Hrmmm... I feel like... there may need to be some normalization as far as how units are divided up. I don't necessarily mean "oh, get rid of the mitoscarab, it's a bad unit dragging everything down" - that's fine, but as is, it seems like all your anti air is locked to the stalker random button... but something like 2/3rds of the rolls on that button aren't anti air at all. I think some normalization as far as what kind of units to expect might be reasonable, down the road - like swap the marine to the stalker tier, and the sentinel+firebat to the zealot tier - the firebat would still be a low roll, and the marine would also be a low roll for your expected unit, but the general use-case would still be in line with stalker usage.
I like this randomizer, but it's a bit deceiving in its randomness. It mostly ends up massing "bulk" units which are like 10 different units. There could be so many more variations of units to really get that random feeling. With just a few different units, it always creates more or less the same army, the more units you make, the less random your army gets. It'd be really cool to have more special units that have like
how about the random terran unit we got have both armory upgrade in Wol? Both zerg and protoss have they own campaign upgraded. and what terran version we using? I see Marauder have stim
Yeah the low economy, combined with the excessive counterattacks, scripted waves and hybrid make a rediculous combo. Only being allowed to make Zealots and Stalkers doesn't help either.
With the spear of adun being random, what is the point of solarite? Will you still be doing all bonus objectives if they're useless, will they give something else or will you be able to spend solarite on something useful?
Generally we want Static Defense to act as a "Oh no I rolled badly a few times in a row and I need to survive until I get some good stuff." So we are hesitant to change it dramatically.
What do you mean "Not gonna cheese this mission, we gonna do it fully normal"? Destroying all objective at the same time is normal way of playing this mission.

so crew mod later today then? :)

I don't know if it is possible, but it would be funny if you also randomized the portraits.
Kinda wish when units are warped in they have their side upgrades like marines with combat shields and stuff like that just because of the Protoss already having theirs.
Yeah, I agree. Once the bonus objective stuff is working I will ask Gerti to take alook at getting mutations and armory upgrades all functional.
Maybe not totally decked out, but I agree the terran units need some of their buffs to be on par
Would it be OP to have the morph button on certain units? like the hydralisk to lurker/impaler, zergling to baneling or mutalisk to viper/brood lord, surely you would need the money for the morph, but hey, what do you think?
It's be nice if upgrading something for a typical cheap ground unit would unlock an ability for every cheap ground unit
I think it might be too much work on the mod creator but I would love to see an upgrade system like on the Hyperion Crew mod where you can get individual upgrades per unit
Edit: @JollyGreenWizard - didn't see your comment before posting lol

Mitoscarabs ARE tanks! You have to consider the HP of the original combined with the HPs of the lil guys when it splits
They are, and it would be cool if their splits grew up after a bit

Randomized Spear of Adun abilities is a brilliant design decision. I can see that being really fun late game.
Especially, if the passives also randomize. 🙄😅😇
