How Manly managed to continuously turn around during the chase sequence in the vents and not die or get disoriented is beyond me. If anyone asked me to show them a 1 minute clip to describe Manly, that'd be it.
This was probably the most visually impressive horror game I've seen in a while. The monster especially, I've never felt more conflicted between running away from something and running into it to hug it.
You wanna know what makes Huggy here terrifying? 1. It's stalking the PC from nearly the moment the PC enters the factory. It could have attacked any time it wanted, and it just decided to hang back to screw with the PC; there's even a few moments where you can turn around and catch it peering at you. 2. That expression of his would be incredibly goofy looking, if it weren't for the rows of dagger teeth and those souless eyes belying a clearly predatory instinct. 3. He's a giant, but moves waay faster than anything his size as a right to. The only time he really moves slowly, is when he thinks you can't get away. And if you somehow do, he knows the layout of the factory well enough that he'll catch up in a split second.
The speed thing (not to mention him being able to fit into much smaller spaces than you'd expect) is brilliant imo, because he's obviously still just a *doll*, and no matter his size he's still built to be as soft and flexible as possible. No need for trifling things like *bones* when your sole purpose in life is HUGGING!
Actually someone pointed out that Huggy might be making sure you go towards Poppy. Cause he only starts to chase you once you almost leave; I would assume the make a friend gimmick would be the end of the tour and lead back to the lobby since kids 'cannot leave' without a toy.
@@prettykitty39 I'm not so sure. I think you WERE heading toward Poppy. Your character isn't trying to escape, they want to go deeper. Huggy Wuggy may be part of the security system mentioned at the start of the game. The motion sensors that call the police is just one of the "tame" aspects. It may be that Huggy isn't allowed to attack until the intruder gets a certain distance inside. The police are less likely to find the remains that way.
@@Bluesit32 Time will certainly tell, but it seems incredibly likely that Huggy is part of the security system in the factory. If he's not, I dread to find out what is...
I really like how all the toy designs are creepy but don't come across as intentionally designed to be creepy. Poppy and Huggy really do look like the kind of unintentionally terrifying toy dolls I remember from my childhood.

The creepy thing besides Wuggy’s stalking and absence, was the very first time that Manly laid eyes on him. As Wuggy was posing in the lobby, he had nothing in his raised hand. However, as Manly had to fix the power, he suddenly has a key in his hand. Bro, that right there should’ve been the first red flag... Wuggy knew fully well he could’ve just killed you there, but chose to observe you and get you when the time was right. Heeellllll noooooooo

Oneyplays just released a chapter 1 video and he surprisingly did the chase scene in one try as well. Its a completely different vibe from manly but its worth a watch imo.
There aren't many monsters that you can get away with showing, and having them still be scary. The design of huggy wuggy is generally uncomfortable. Great job on the Devs.
The main thing is that Huggy uses *terror* instead of horror. The confirmation of what huggy is and that he's coming is what makes his presence fucking MORTIFYING.
@@radioactivepower600nanaspersec usually fear of the unknown is what gets to people. But here, you know what's chasing you and that it wants you dead but it's still terrifying
That vent chase sequence almost killed me, the way you looked back a couple of times makes my heart beat uncontrollably, and I don't mean it in a romantic way.
@@imagohawke6991 Games with this kind of one-track story line (unlike, say, Skyrim, which has a main one but also many others) wil usually want you to hit certain details or plot points in a certain order so as to have specific or more meaningful effects. Missing an earlier detail may detract from the impact of later ones. Manly is experienced enough with horror games and their designs to know how to get all the details and plot points in mostly the right order, so I guess you could say he gets the full experience, or the one the developers intended.
The vent animation, and all of huggy’s animation really, are super impressive to me. They don’t feel too jerky or anything, it just feels like a very big floppy toy, hurling at you as fast as it can
I mean it works for the aestheticbut they took alot of short cuts when animating him. Though its not super noticeable unless you glitch him out or bypass some of his railroad pathing. A example would be his head, its not animated at all, its scripted to always face the player no matter what. Which can lead to it spinning around or clipping into it self.
@@nikushim6665 well, I mean. It’s not super noticeable, and they were working very well with the probable limits they have. The rest of the game shows that effort too, I just wanted to point out the animation because I’ve seen a lot of horror games where the monster chase, and most of the animation sometimes, is absolutely awful.
Damn the blocking in that vent chase is phenomenal. Sudden glimpses of Huggy from angles he shouldn't be at, constantly getting turned around... Don't know if it was because I was watching instead of playing but that was disorienting in such a good way.
Well color me impressed. This game looks like it wants to be the next big indie horror game- and to be honest, it looks like it's succeeding so far. That chase scene was genuinely intense, especially with the way Huggy moved. Super unnerving. And I love that there's an actual game mechanic in the form of the grabbo-arms, which means there's an actual opportunity for puzzles that aren't just keyhunts. Hopefully. I also dig the vibe it's going for. Sort of a weird mish-mash of Portal, FNAF and Bendy and the Ink Machine- although I think it's already far better than Bendy and hopefully it won't implode on itself like Bendy did. There's also just a nice level of polish all around. I will be looking forward to this game's future.
The vent chasing sequence was one of the most intense, scary, and amazing things I have ever seen in a video game in a while. not gonna lie tho, was already a bit on edge at the title screen lol
Honestly, this game is bonkers. It came out of nowhere and took everyone by storm, lmao. My only complain would be the lack of subtitles, as i am way too deaf and unable to focus to understand nothing of the dialogue
Huggy Wuggy looks like a living creature and that one line of Poppy's "I'm a real girl" kinda stands out to me now that we got that last VHS that talked about doing science experiments.
If you look up the Poppy Playtime commercial, you can see a bloody voice box taken out of her before text saying "LET ME GO" shows for less than a second.
I loved how the chase sequence just didn't wanna stop. There were like five different times where i thought the toy would just give up but it kept going
@@dionysus-sama6338 I've noticed similarities to Bendy, but this seems like they actually care. It's scary, the monster is genuinely terrifying, and the polish is unreal

why does every horror game mc sound like they are wearing high heels 😭 they woke up and were like “oh, let me put on my stilettos to walk around an abandoned toy factory” 💀
Horror game protags either wear high heels, or they move UNBELIEVABLY slow 💀💀💀 like "yeah, I know I'm being chased by monsters who want to rip me to shreds, but I just don't _feel_ like running :-/"
agree, this is the first time I made noises while watching a horror game play through, every time I watch a horror game play through I don't make noises at all
the production quality on this is RIDICULOUS. The intro commercial was particularly great but everything about the chases was incredible. Very excited to see more.
I think they're foreshadowing quite a bit how there's people in the toys, seeing as the toys bleed and there's talk about wanting to be young and play forever and stuff.
The animation as it crawls through the vents is really good. There's a completely different feel you get when instead of the creature just crouching as it chases you it crawls in a way that makes sense based off anatomy.
They do a lot with Huggy we haven't seen too much of in indie horror, such as give him LONG build up and not jsut have him chase you the entire chapter, as well as make his design not too over the top "booga booga gonna kill ya", and yeah the way he moves is unnerving, andthe vent chase highlights how FAST he is
It’s like the movie “Small Soldiers” where they wanted to make toys more intelligent, but got too carried away with the experimentation. Resulting in monsters. Pretty cool. **Also, that thing running through the vents is one of the most horrifying things I’ve heard and seen in a long time. GEEZ **
"I'm a REAL girl, just like you" That phrase has some terrifying implications when you consider the nature of this game But holy moly I love this! The devs have a seriously good grasp of suble horror and atmosphere, something that not all indie horror game devs do right. They put in all these fantastic little details without being too subtle or too obvious about it, like how Huggy bleeds when it hits the pipes. Such a good detail that you might miss if you're not looking, but when you do there's just that gut-wrenching feeling of 'oh god, what IS that thing'. Stuff like that is infinitely more unsettling and creepy than if they just threw a ton of jumpscares in your face. I honestly kind of feel like the sharp teeth aren't super necessary to make Huggy's design scarier too. I feel like it would've been plenty scary to either keep the closed mouth or just have it be a black hole where the teeth should be. I'm also a little bummed Huggy doesn't actually crush you to death if it catches you, but these are all little nitpicks more than anything, and they definitely don't detract from the overall experience. I'm gonna be keeping a close eye on this game from here on out, I cannot wait and see where this goes.
Personally it made me feel bad for Poppy, because it indicates that there's a soul or a sentient AI that thinks it's a living breathing human, just like us. It's disturbing to think about...
Didn't the woman in one of the tapes say how much see misses being a kid and wants to go back? What if Poppy is exactly that? An adult turned into a toy so that it can live forever as a, well... A child's toy.
@@Rocketai Oh yes that's definitely the vibes I was getting too. My current theory is that Poppy contains the soul of a human being who wanted to essentially be young forever, and what better way to do that than to become a child's toy
Huggy's teeth were necessary because it allows for the dripping saliva to be noticed easier as well as the fact that there's a second set, like a shark. This implies, perhaps even more than the blood, that Huggy is at least partially organic in nature and is drooling in anticipation of a meal. As for the "real girl" thing, I got the same feeling. I suspect they used the orphans mentioned in that one video.
I love watching your playthroughs. You don't talk over everything from the cutscenes to dialogue. Even if you do, it's usually something funny which is cool. Really wish more people didn't talk every single second they could
Manly's ending is strange. I watched others play this and their ending when they released Poppy the screen goes black and when she spoke its like you just made a mistake of unleashing a great evil. But in Manly's ending the screen doesnt go black and as she spoke she looks at you almost confused as to why you are here
This game has a strange 'Bioshock' vibe to it, and the cookie monster was absolutely terrifying, would very much love to see more of this, definitely intrigued.
This gives me more Portal 2 vibes, especially with underground Aperture feel to it. The fact that the game mechanics relies on the left and right mouse buttons as well as the fact that you start off with only the blue hand, just like how Portal 2 only gives you the blue portal. The catwalks also resemble a lot like the catwalks from Portal.
@@0x1EGEN Maybe it was inspired by that game? The announcer on the television who reprimands you for trespassing at the beginning sounds like Cave Johnson somewhat. GlaDOS also made the staff at Aperture “disappear”, but their bodies are still on the premises. We just don’t see them, similar to the missing workers here.
I think it’s interesting that the doll’s heads are shaking as if saying “no” when the narrator in the video says it’s the “most magical toy factory on Earth”
Spoilers for towards the end: Huggy falling down the pit would be hilarious if it weren't so impressively well animated. The way his arms, legs, and body move (especially when he tries grabbing onto the catwalk) really make him feel like an actual stuffed toy. Like a sock monkey or something.
I had high expectations going into a game that looked like it was trying to be the next big thing, especially when the first chapter is only a half hour, but WOW that chase scene was genuinely intense. Thanks for the upload king!!
This is an impressive game I guarantee, but since it lacks a universe it'll probably shrink into obscurity like most other high-effort small horror games. For instance, Bendy and the Ink Machine only lasted 2 or so years before disappearing for good.
@@scrittle Tattletail comes to mind. It was pretty popular when it came out, with youtubers covering it and such, but not long after it just... Vanished into obscurity. 123 Slaughter Me Street was kinda the same way, but that one wasn't helped by the sequel being weird as hell.
It was mainly the fact, that the way it moves is realistic, and also you can hear its hands thumping on the vents, trying to get you while smiling creepily, its so realistic that you can imagine it in real life.
I used to have horrifying sleep paralysis dreams where a gang of creatures that look identical to this thing would parade my family's body parts through the room for five minutes and then leave. It was really fucked up, I have no idea where my mind even conjured that up. Seeing this thing outside of my brain may have traumatized me.
i like how the factory actually looks like a visitor's factory. like the goofy eyes on the toy maker, the colorful lobby, etc. its verisimilitude makes it more disquieting than a rusty "spooky" place. like imagine going to the jelly belly facotry after dark and having the mascot Chase You.

I actually liked this. Honestly, when I saw the thumbnail, I was expecting the game to take a FNAF type of mechanic. Glad that it took a different route instead. As for Poppy at the end there, I won't be surprised if she actually was your guide through all this (or at least for the majority of this game). Definitely looking forward to you playing the rest of the chapters when it comes out.
I think she's going to be the antagonist. I mean everything about this game is a warning for how deceptively dangerous a children's toy could be. Imagine this: Poppy is the be all end all perfected toy for that company. In the intro they mention how they managed to create a doll with complete sentience and intelligence, which means it is more than capable of having done something insidious enough to warrant it being locked in a cage deep inside the facility.
@@NightmareBlade10 My thoughts aligns with yours. Hence, why I said that she may be your guide through the rest of the game or at least the *majority* of it. Assuming that this game contains more than 2 chapters, if what we saw at the end of this chapter was an accurate depiction of what the main character will encounter in the first segment of the 2nd chapter, then I cannot rule out the possibility that Poppy will play as a guide through the rest of the game. Of course, that doesn't mean that guiding the player meant that she's on your side. This game was titled "Poppy Playtime" after all. I suppose we'll have to see how the rest unfolds once the rest of the chapters comes out. Who knows. Maybe the game takes the easy route and initially presents Poppy as a straight up enemy that just chases you down 'til the very end.
My theories for Poppy: - she's going to guide us, then turn on us and become the antagonist near the end (like "she was leading us to our death the whole time!") - we're going to have to make a decision about her, like whether or not we sacrifice her to escape or something - we turn her into a real girl again maybe??
I cant get enough of this channel. His voice. The games. The amount he uploads . This guy is as manly as it gets. Also good in every game he plays, it seems like he plays every game 5 times before recording.
The tall blue scumbag's animation, was so realistic you could probably imagine it in real life, and i dont like the thought of being chased into the vents, with a giant blue doll-like creature thats on steroids.
I can't be the only one who was surprised that manly was able to get away from huggy-wuggy on the first try! Damn they don't call you badass hero for nothing!😨😅
I must say, many horror games usually have budget limits and it shows especially during chase sequences. But that moment in the vent... Yeah I love a good scare but that was absolutely horrific and stressful. It's been a long time since I didn't felt that. I'll be sure to play it, all my congrats to the team behind it and you Manly for sharing.
I get the feeling that Huggy's animations are actually dynamic. I've seen a ton of developers get into it lately- using IK rigs in-engine to create such things.
This is giving me the same excitement that Bendy and the Ink Machine chapter 1 gave me. So much potential here. Hopefully they do better than bendy did
Huggy in the chase seems… well animated… I can see they must’ve made a script so that Huggy’s limbs snap to specific points in the vents as he advances when the limbs get separated enough from the body, that way they just need to animate the legs and torso, snap the head looking towards the player and not worry how to animate the chase when Huggy needs to go faster (when you fall the noises Huggy makes sounds like he sprints). His long limbs compared to such a tight place make the system seem very natural. Big props to the devs!
love the way huggy moves!! it was so unnerving and grotesque, yet very natural and not-janky, esp inside the vent thingy. this game looks rly good so far and i hope u'd play more of it when the next chapters come out :D
While we can all appreciate that vent scene, can we talk about the fact those “experiments” coordinate and cooperate with one another? Starting to make sense how everyone disappeared at once ten years ago.
We don’t hear Manly scream or yell in fear a lot, but I can say, when he does I get chills because what’s happening on screen is genuinely gonna be terrifying or a jump scare
It's really awesome that after 10 years of missing workers and the facility being in a significant state of decay, the VHS tapes and their VCRs work flawlessly, but what's REALLY amazing is the grab pack. It's so rare to see it and I haven't played a game with a gravity gun like that since Half Life 2. Very cool.
Nobody’s talking about, how when you’re in the toy making part of the factory, and your in the process of making that bumblebee cat toy the red machine in the center has eyes that move and they follow you as you walk around. The center machine is literally watching you as you watch the toy get made.
this looks like a new bendy's but done much better. The puzzle solving, tool use, movement etc. The way the current animatronic moves is insane. Especially in the vent scene. If they do more such things it's a definite success.
The way it just lumbers around but then moves very fast through the vents augments the terror. It's like it's pretending to not even try just to give you a false sense of security.
I really love this concept, but I have an overbearing fear this will become the next Bendy or FNAF when UA-camrs oversaturate it so much to the point where it loses everything that made it scary in the first place.
@@DidIAsk4Fries Let's hope not too much like Dark Deception, where the main game is then pushed aside in favor of spinoffs and merchandising... In fact, that happens a lot with these horror games. The only game I saw that didn't fall into this trap was Tattletail, and I think that might be because it released as a full product and that was it.

This is sadly what horror game youtube has become.

I'm not a super experienced gamer.
@@nikushim6665 ....because you're not meant to breach the mechanics. Like every game ever.

"I'm a REAL girl, just like you"
That phrase has some terrifying implications when you consider the nature of this game
But holy moly I love this!

I actually liked this. Honestly, when I saw the thumbnail, I was expecting the game to take a FNAF type of mechanic. Glad that it took a different route instead. As for Poppy at the end there, I won't be surprised if she actually was your guide through all this (or at least for the majority of this game). Definitely looking forward to you playing the rest of the chapters when it comes out.
omg same i thought its just another fnaf fangame but its completely different
My theories for Poppy:
- she's going to guide us, then turn on us and become the antagonist near the end (like "she was leading us to our death the whole time!")
- we're going to have to make a decision about her, like whether or not we sacrifice her to escape or something
- we turn her into a real girl again maybe??

Huggy in the chase seems… well animated… I can see they must’ve made a script so that Huggy’s limbs snap to specific points in the vents as he advances when the limbs get separated enough from the body, that way they just need to animate the legs and torso, snap the head looking towards the player and not worry how to animate the chase when Huggy needs to go faster (when you fall the noises Huggy makes sounds like he sprints). Everyone seems to be playing this game right now. Glad I waited to watch a playthrough
23:37 this entire sequence of huggy wuggy falling off the railing and hitting every single metal pipe on the way down is SENDING me
this looks like a new bendy's but done much better. The puzzle solving, tool use, movement etc. The way the current animatronic moves is insane. Especially in the vent scene. If they do more such things it's a definite success.
And hopefully without the internal drama.
Also, returning here to say WOW my comment aged very poorly lmao.
The way it just lumbers around but then moves very fast through the vents augments the terror. It's like it's pretending to not even try just to give you a false sense of security.
I really love this concept, but I have an overbearing fear this will become the next Bendy or FNAF
when UA-camrs oversaturate it so much to the point where it loses everything that made it scary in the first place.
Tbh I feel likes it gonna have the same as effect Dark Deception. It Became really popular, but not to the point of oversaturation.
@@DidIAsk4Fries Let's hope not too much like Dark Deception, where the main game is then pushed aside in favor of spinoffs and merchandising... In fact, that happens a lot with these horror games. The game gets too popular and suddenly it all turns into a franchising scheme instead of actually finishing what it set out to do.
The only game I saw that didn't fall into this trap was Tattletail, and I think that might be because it released as a full product and that was it.
@@notrealnamenotatall2476 I honestly had no idea Dark Deception was pushed that far. Thank you for telling me.
I also believe that TattleTail would indeed be a better example.
I don’t think this has the same qualities of a super iconic game, still looks really good and I would guess this will be a similar popularity to a game like portal
This is sadly what horror game youtube has become. Once a new game is out, everyone and their grandma won't shut up about it, then the 12 years olds become obsessed with it and the creators fall into the trap of trying to turn the game into a franchise and it dies out for being milked to death.
I hope this game does well since it has a lot of soul put into it, but seeing it turn into the newest youtube fad would suck.
This is probably one of the scariest games i have seen yet. I could barely watch as that monster was chasing you in the vent. The frantic and loud banging of footsteps growing closer to you. Absolutely terrifying.
I’m blown away at how good this game is. I’m not used to just finding a game like this without seeing a LOT of marketing around it. This is a masterpiece and I’m so excited to see more of it.
I haven't felt this scared and on edge since the Aoi Oni days.
We all KNOW how fucking scary that was at the time, I used to have nightmares of my parents turning into the damn thing, and killing me.
Damn, after his movie got on theaters sonic let himself go
Nah, this is just the only gig the original desigI mean actor could get after the whole fiasco and getting fired and replaced by some other guy
This is the freakiest short indie horror I've seen in a WHILE. That monster animation and lighting are stellar, especially going through the vents.
Character: _looks away_
Batman: "attempts to get away"
Character: _turns around just in time to see him run away_
23:37 *_Batman:_*
Heheh, I see what you did there
7:27 if you look at every playthrough on youtube, they all give the monster a high five, no exeptions
As if that thumbnail wasn't scary enough, everytime Manly turned around and that thing was inching closer to him I jumped! It's movements were more smooth than I expected.
This game looks like a horror version of Portal, where you use a unique gadget to solve puzzles in a level.
its pretty much all twists on older takes from this point on , nice to know how the pressure to succeed isn't as high anymore though too.
The voice of that Head of Innovation Guy reminded me of Cave Johnson
well,a computer yandere love story game had its inspiration from Portal 2
@@ryanp7546 sauce
@@GreenHura also go find some lamb sauce for me
i just love how when you're running it makes me think like how cartoon characters back in retro time would run while holding their arms out.
That’s a brilliant little observation, and visual. I wonder if that was somewhat intentional on the devs part.
I really appreciate Manly getting a good look at the monster! Always frustrating when you’re too busy running to admire the character design
This man's voice in every playthrough is like the narrorator to every game he plays. It's like watching a story and I enjoy it!
1:30 somehow in such a short time frame, i forgot i was watching a manlybadasshero video and genuinely thought I was watching a really bad toy commercial for some reason, only to jump from hearing manly's voice telling me it's time to die
Same!!!!
