Just leaving Talquin now. I thought I was crazy because I was the only one stalking the schools all over the lake like you are doing. Caught some absolute giants also! Thanks for the video.
This time of year it is best to chase them down. That is where you will find the big ones! My toughest decision was to get out of my comfortable pontoon boat which is like sitting on my couch in my family room and get back into my bass boat which is setup to chase them down. There are still a lot of fish on cover but the larger fish are in open water. Thanks for watching.
Some days are easier than others. I am enjoying it while it lasts. The spawn will have them on the move before long. Thanks for the comment and for watching!
Put you a cooler beside you to use as a live well so you don't have to get up so much. Great video man, I am looking forward to getting out and finding some crappie
Getting up 25 - 30 times really makes me tired too. It is like doing 30 squats. The next day I am exhausted. I will be back in the pontoon boat soon. It has a live well up front. The pontoon boat doesn't have livescope setup on the trolling motor either, so it is a little difficult chasing the fish when they are in the winter pattern. The trolling motor spot lock accuracy on the pontoon is also horrible. Plan on getting a new Ultrex for it though. Thanks for watching!
Thanks Terry, I am happy they are working out for you. The jig colors in the box include the jigs that I have chose as the best ones based on my 50+ years of fishing experience. Thanks for the purchase and for watching!
I appreciate the feedback. I still catching fish the same ways I always did (slip bobbers, tightline, casting etc.) If you get a chance I recommend getting one. It will not by pass the skills of choosing the right bait, tying the proper knots, using the right equipment or using the correct techniques for landing fish. But it sure will help in presenting the lure to the fish. Thanks for watching and for the comment!
I am in Southern Indiana. I have been running a 1222 for about 2 years. You will like it. Used to push double minnow rigs but mostly single pole now. Enjoying your videos.
Glad to here you are enjoying the videos. I used to push, pull, cast and drift minnows and jigs. However, one pole is turning out to be the most efficient and fun method for sure. I find it hard to go out and drift around for hours when I can now spend an hour targeting active fish. Thanks for watching and for your support!
Just found your channel, great content, also subbed, I’m a jig man myself, my pb at 2.5lbs was caught on a jig. We usually out fish live bait most of the time….. tight lines my friend 😎
Happy to hear you enjoyed the content. 2.5lbs is a great pb. I don't know what my pb is because I used to eat a lot of fish and never weighed any of them. Since I started to weigh them I think my pb is around 2.5 also. I want a 3 lb though by the end of the year. Thanks for the sub and for watching!
That is a nice one for sure. Someone asked me what was my personal best and I think I said 2 lbs 4oz since I started keeping up with the weight. Then I noticed in one of my videos that I caught one weighing 2 lbs. 12 oz. I am sure I have fried bigger. Thanks for watching!
I don't really spend much time making the adjustments other that gain up and down from time to time. Sandy bottoms will reflect more signal and you may need to turn it down. Deeper softer bottoms reflect less and you can turn it up. My Echo Map required a higher gain setting and my GPS Map lets me get by with a lower gain setting. Thanks for the comment!
@@HookLegends awesome TY sir im mainly a largemouth fisher but my buddy wants to go out on the boat with me this weekend for some crappie and im clueless in that form thats how i ended up on your video! love it!
I fished those areas growing up. Now I usually fish the creeks on the lower end of the lake like Hammock, Blounts and Freeman. A video may contain clips from one or more creeks. Thanks for the question and for watching!
Yes, it is mounted on the trolling motor on my bass boat but it is mounted on a pole in my pontoon boat. It is better to have it on a pole for fishing brushpiles and cover. It is better to have it on the trolling motor when fish a suspended and running so you can chase them down. Thanks for the question and for watching!
The braided line can be a little annoying for me in windy conditions. Sometimes my boat does a 360. But stay tuned because I have a remedy to my boat drifting around in the wind that you don't want to miss. Thanks for the comment!
I purchases it a couple of years ago. I use other boats on smaller waters and I use my bass boat and pontoon boat on larger waters. Thanks for the question!
He is around and doing well. I have been doing more fishing during the day as opposed to evening fishing like I did in the past. Being retired has advantages for sure. He has also been working to perfect his one pole skills. He and I had fish jumping out the cooler and we couldn't close the lid a couple of days ago. You will see a video short of one of our fishing trips very soon. Thanks for asking and for watching!
I have never caught a crappie on a dead minnow. I have heard that a white crappie will eat a dead minnow. We only have black crappie in my area. Thanks for the question and for watching!
@@HookLegends thanks I’m looking to invest in a livescope but don’t know what all I need lol I currently have the garmin striker 7 but I really want that livescope
If you will be using it for side scan, down imaging and livescope then make sure you get a model that supports all three. I use my livescope (garmin 1222) on the front deck and the Helix 10 (sorry i said Helix 12 earlier) at my console. Thx.
The have tender mouths on the side but tough on the top. Most of my plastic bait hookups are in the top of the mouth. This allows me to boat flip them. Thanks!
I have used live bait a lot and sometimes in the summer they work a little better. I don't like carrying the extra water with the minnows though. A gallon of water weighs 8 lbs. and I have to go uphill 200ft. to my truck. Then I have to change the water on them everyday at home to keep them alive. I keep my plastics in the storage well. Thanks for the comment!
Good observation. Old habits are hard to break. I fished with some older gentlemen 25 to 30 years ago. If we had a fish on the line we would put the rod down and hold it with our foot until other boats passed by. They taught me a lot about the lake and about fishing (mostly bass fishing). Thanks for the comment and for watching!
yeah man, my boat looks like a guide boat the way its set up, and on weekends, people seem to stalk me,, one shows up and then several others, just watching me.. it gets aggravating,, because I know they are pot licking my spot.. one time a guy was following me in the main lake and I ran into a snake creek, he didnt know it had a very sharp turn right as you go in, he came haulin ass into it trying to follow me, and ran up onto the bank at around 40 mph... lol@@HookLegends
We were just talking about it the other day. Once we build on Lake Talquin she will be in a lot of videos. Until then I will try to get her out on occasions. I might do a 3 generation fishing trip too! I already did the trip but didn't record it. Stay tuned, more action is coming!

Nice catches!!
Those are some serious slabs sir!!
I almost bought a livescope but I backed out at the last minute lol

The biggest crappie or speck as we say in the south was about 15 inches it would lay cross way in a square skillet

I usually fish the Iron Curtain and Little River, which creek is that?

Good fishing. Put the Livescope on the big part of the screen so we can see them react better
Thanks for the tip....I will give it a try. Thanks for watching and for the comment!
Is your livescope transducer mounted to your trolling motor?

Is that a new boat?

What brand live scope do you have
Also what lake are you on?
I have a Garmin 1222 Livescope. This model does not have side imaging or down imaging. Stay tuned for more action and thanks for watching!
Do you do guide fishing?
Nice video where r u located
We are located just outside of Tallahassee, Florida. Thanks for the positive feedback and for watching!
I just ordered some of your baits also . I only know how to text how can I reach you
@@curtisanderson5756 Thanks for the order. I appreciate it. What is your number, I will send you a text?
What weight jig head were you using?
1/8 ounce 98% of the time. I go down to 1/16th ounce when trolling shallow water and might go up to 1/4 ounce on rare occasions. Thanks for watching!

Crappie are known as paper mouth bass
The have tender mouths on the side but tough on the top. Most of my plastic bait hookups are in the top of the mouth. This allows me to boat flip them. Thanks!
@@HookLegends thus the name paper mouth bass and they are just as good to eat as a bass is.
I have nothing against artificial bait but I prefer live bait better
I have used live bait a lot and sometimes in the summer they work a little better. I don't like carrying the extra water with the minnows though.
