Thanks Chad. I have a GDL and was getting a buzz on my 4th string on certain notes. Noticed my tailpiece was off of the hoop. Just lowering the tailpiece to touch the surface of the hoop took care of the buzz. Thanks again!

What about the Vega Senator? How do we adjust the tail piece on that?

My question: all videos i see, they lift a lid to get under the tailpiece. There is no lid, it's one solid immovable piece. All i need to do is add a string i broke while tuning. I have no idea how to remove the tailpiece. The user manual didn't show and no video out there shows me HOW?? so frustrated. It's a 5 piece full size vangoa banjo and i tried to loosen 2 screws and loosen some other knobs and I'm probably ruining my new banjo 😅

Hi! I've seen some videos regarding Presto style tailpieces which recommend not setting them on the tension hoop or using the angle adjustment screw andetting them "float". What is different about the TruTone tailpiece vs. a regular Presto style where uou set it up differently? I have a Julia Belle that I was doing some setup on and didn't want to mess up the tailpiece adjustment. Thank you!

Sorry to bug you guys with questions, but after watching this video a couple of times and looking at my own Banjo (a Maple Blossom) I think I have issues, but I'm not sure. So my tailpiece sits higher at the top (towards the 5th string) than it does at the bottom. Also, the long phillips adjustment screw is at a pronounced angle. Is it supposed to be straight up/down? Is it possible my tailpiece is bent all out of shape?

Wouldn't that often rupture the head?

Hey Chad, what about the Deering standard tailpiece, like what's used on the Goodtime series? It's mounted to the banjo differently and has no adjustment screw. It's mounted to the coordinator rod. Is the standard tailpiece also supposed to be firmly against the tension ring like the True Tone piece in the video? My Artisan Special came with it almost an 1/8" above being in contact with the tension ring and 1/4" from the head as measured at the edge facing the bridge.

The Goodtime tailpiece can be adjusted by loosening the outside nut on the coordinator rod until there is a small gap between the
tailpiece and the face of the rim that it makes contact with. The tailpiece should be set as low to the head as possible without contacting the head, there should always be a small gap from the surface of the head to the bottom of the tailpiece. This will give the Goodtime banjo the tightest “bluegrass” sound. To allow a warmer, rounder tone the tailpiece can be raised away from the head and set according to what the player’s ear prefers. Once adjusted tighten the outside nut firmly against the rim and re-tune the banjo. Hope this helps.

Is there any real difference between what's shown here and the Maple Blossom series? My tailpiece is WAY over the tension hoop. Also you don't need to loosen the strings before doing this?

Hi Timothy! No, the tailpiece on your Maple Blossom is exactly the same. You do not need to loosen your strings, but be prepared to have to retune. :-)
